Happy to hear that you are alright. Any residual soreness now that you have a couple days between the accident and now?

Any update regarding the repair or insurance?

Because not everybody wants to lay that kind of change down for a car!

oh damn

glad you're not seriously hurt dude.

I hope they total the car out for you or you get a DAMN good body shop.

I don't think I'd want a vert after it's taken a hard shot.

No, no you don't.

It's a nice car, but not many people could stroke a check for the $40kish we're talking. Taking out a loan like that? Well, that's called living beyond your means, and it's ****ing a whooole bunch of people up right now.

It's a nice car with a great engine, but it's not worth it at all.

Yikes, lol. Buying new is expensive, not just the transaction but the depreciation. After something's been on the road for 2-4 years, the depreciation is a bit slower, making 2002-2005 the sweet spot for newer used cars, though by then most factory warranties will have expired.

Paying down a 15-25k loan is doable, but 40k... ouch. If I was able to really throw money around, I'd have an XLR-V and a GMC Sierra and never need anything else.

Sorry to hear about your baby Jesda. And glad to see you're okay. At least your car is new enough to be fixed, unlike my old 240 that got t-boned.

Yeah, it should be. They're pretty much all like that.

My route would be a straight through 3" magnaflow dual in/out muffler or similar with factory style tips attached to a custom 3" center section/test pipe. Keep the 02 sensors happy by spacing them up and out of the exhaust stream. There are pieces for raising spark plugs you can get at just about any auto parts store that should work perfect.

When I did mine I used glass packs in place of the cats but kept the Borla catback that came on the car. Sounded pretty good but since the Borla was 2.5" I've now replaced the whole system with a used 3" Euro Supersprint Exhaust.

Here's the Borla with glass packs in the center section for an idea of what it sounds like. It's on an e36 M3 but the engine is pretty similar.

Went and got checked out today at the hospital, as well as the chiropractor. There are SO MANY cute nurses at the hospitals in west county. All petite, adorable, competent, and sweet.

I got into the ER at about 4pm and got out finally at 7:30p.

Waiting... waiting... meanwhile the guy at Safeco called to take my statement and set me up with a rental. I reserved a 2008 Malibu at Enterprise.

Cute girl who checked me in and took my blood pressure. All the nurses seemed quite sad about the car, and I showed them camera phone pics.

"What kind of convertible was it?"'A 2004 BMW 3-series.'"Oh my god! Those are my favorite cars! Thats so sad."'Yeah, it was my favorite too.'

"You need to get it fixed and take us nurses for a ride! We've had a rough day."'I know, every morning and evening I get to take that to work its like a release.'

Damn hospital robes... letting my butt hang out all over the place.

The doctor was fantastic; he was very comforting and quite skilled at explaining everything to me.

I want to get injured again and go back LOL. Anyway, after an x-ray and cat scan I turned out to be okay. I was prescribed vicodin and I'll be forwarding the xrays to my chiropractor for further treatment. The chiropractor checked my spine and shoulders and took some photos.

I like!

Jesda: Next time tell those cute nurses you're going to get an even nicer Bimmer to take them out in.

Your limp-wristed convertible BMW made God angry. You have been given another chance to purchase a suitable BMW, like ... an E30 M3.

No M... no care... unless it's a 2002 w/ 2.5L S14.

I'm not spending $10k on a Reagan-era car, because there's more productive things to do with cash. And the bank won't finance an E30 M3.

Now with 4-6k to spare after the settlement, I'd like a Pathfinder/GC/Cherokee/4Runner/Blazer/Silverado/whatever as well as my old Seville, which the guy I sold it to has posted on Craigslist with a bunch of new parts.

A sedan + a pickup/SUV = bases covered. I can have fun with expensive toys later in life. I'm still a student.

Unless you're in a Rust-free zone, stay away from Pathfinders and 4 Runners .

I really like the idea of 2 cars with different purposes. It's so much smarter than people that try to find 1 car to do it all.

Think about maybe a Miata and a Passat 4Motion Wagon. I know where a nice well maintained B5 Passat Wagon is for sale, that wouldn't take all you budget.

Damn sorry to hear about your accident Jesda. Gotta love that German build quality though. My advice is to stick with the brand that saved your life.

And the maintenance on e36's isn't to bad as long as you keep them rather close to stock. I've seen them still running strong at 110k miles with just fluid changes but normally you'll need to do something about the plastic radiator by that time. And bushings. Bushings will be shot and the car will feel like a limp wristed convertible.

After about 110k miles the maintenance items start creeping in if they aren't taken care of as preventive maintenance. Think cooling system overhaul, thermostat, rear upper shock mounts, some interior touch ups, idle control valve, 02 sensors, etc. Basically the usual suspects. The oil pump nut can never be fixed to early (safety wire that sucker) and the water pump should be checked and replaced asap if it is a plastic impeller model (with one that doesn't have a plastic impeller of course).

Notice in the close up picture of the door, you can actually see the Kia's front license plate stamped into Jesda's door in, ummm, negative bas-relief, or sunken relief, or intaglio, or...damnit - why is there never an Art major around when you need one?

Glad you are O.K., Jesda!

BMW sent me a signed letter saying they've been following my story on NICO and included a free key chain, which I thought was a very nice gesture.

The car is now at Plaza Motors getting checked out. The Saturn Aura I'm renting now is nice, but I miss the convertible. It would have been nice driving it up 101 through the California and Oregon coast last week instead of the rental.

+1 for Bmw.

I probably missed it, but are you having the car repaired (hence the rental)?

You gotta love the BMW customer service.

One of my cousins has a BMW 330i. It is an awesome car.

Jesda, I'm glad you are OK. I would recommend the new 335i with twin turbos. I'm sure they make it in a Vert too. They get awesome fuel mileage and they have eggs when you need them.
