I assure you that you will have to re-start your phone at least once a day, probably more.
What? I'm so lost on this. This phone is running Android OS, being mostly developed by google, so this is like saying HP computers suck at running Windows in comparison to Dell. Sure, HTC has a hand in developing the UI, but as for making the phone not work, I doubt it. The Nexus 1, EVO and Droid Incredible are all HTC phones on three different networks. They are also insanely popular amongst the tech-crowd and I've yet to see one complaint to this end. And I spend far too many hours every day reading tech articles about gadgets (I am a huge nerd). Or are you referring to something else?

Anyone I know who has owned an HTC phone has said the phone does not run well, It has to be restarted often for some reason. I don't know if it's because the OS is incompatible with the hardware or what, but nevertheless the personal reviews haven't been good around here.

Sorry if this clashes with what you've heard, but you don't have to play it like I am stupid, OK? Oh yeah, and fu*k you rich.

Odd. No offense to your friends, but I'm gonna take the word of the tech-nerds who know way more about how all this crap works than I do. I also know that I was damn close to purchasing the HTC Droid Incredible on Verizon, but lack of availability has slowed me down. Now I'm going to wait and see what the upcoming moto offerings will be.

I wasn't referring to the droid, Adam. That is not really a HTC phone, Yes, it is badged as such, but it was more of a collaboration.

wait what?

-motorola developed the droid.

-android is an operating system that google developed.

-the droid runs android OS.

-the nexus one is an HTC device developed with googles help and collaboration.

-the EVO is an HTC device running android OS with the sense UI applied to the front end.

-HTC developed the senseUI front end.

hope this clears some things up.

There's too many damn android phones, the naming conventions get mental. The Droid is motorola. Droid Incredible and Droid Eris (maybe?) are HTC. Nexus one is HTC but kind of controlled by google (assuming this is what you were referencing above). Of the HTC phones, the Droid Incredible, EVO and Nexus One basically all share identical hardware. The N1 has the default Android OS user interface, but the other two phones have an HTC modified UI. When I first started researching jumping ship from my ghey iPhone, it took me forever to get the damn phone names down. Plus, I hadn't really heard much about HTC as a company since I haven't looked at phones seriously in nearly two years.

Now, if your friends were complaining about older HTC phones, like the Droid Eris or whatever, I would completely understand. In comparison to this latest batch of phones, those are garbage. This is what scares me about going with an Android device. I don't want a two year contract because the phone is likely to be obsolete in only one year. Since I tend to be an early adopter, this will cripple me. I hate how dated my iPhone 3G is right now. I'm planning on buying a phone with less of a subsidy and going with a one year contract to offset it. That way I can upgrade every year.

I have no idea what that is and don't feel like googling google. I don't feel like I'm missing out.

Honestly, the Evo phone is a lot prettier than the car.

But the car is more fun. :)

Also earning a point for the phone over the car:
The phone is not derived from the budgetiest budgetmodel in budgetland.
Lancers are crap. Boost doesn't fix being a lancer.

But... but! Boost, suspension, and a new interior delancers the Lancer.

You can do a lot worse than a rental-spec Lancer, like a Corolla. So numb.

The evo is an amazing phone, but I like having the keyboard on my droid.

8.0 megapixel camera? Thumbs up.
Kickstand? Icing on the cake.

I want, despite no physical keys to press.

Yeah I just picked up an HTC Hero about 2 weeks ago for $50 # Sams Club, and instantly got upset when I saw they were releasing the EVO. Had I known this before I got the Hero I would have just waited.

As far as HTC phones having to be rebooted, that is pure crap. I've shut mine off twice since I got it (once when I let the battery die and the second when I updated to Android 2.1), and I use the ever loving crap out of my phone. My only major complaint is that the damn thing can never find my location without me resetting the location settings, and forget trying to use the GPS function, it doesn't work, which sucks because I travel locally a ton for work and trying to find a business or a house for me to go for my installs/service is impossible.

What is this Googletalk that you all speak of? If it's anything like a free version of Skype then I'm all about that, so please someone send me a googletalk invite.

Chaotic: Look in to rooting your phone and changing to a Cyanogen built rom.

If you're trying to use Google Maps there is a known issue with one of the versions. Sometimes even updating didn't fix it. You have to remove the program completely and only install the latest version.

I'm a dork, not a nerd... I don't know how to do any of that on a phone. But I can play the hell out of a video game or get into a heated debate over anything comic book or sci-fi/fantasy related. The nerdiest thing I can do is build a computer and install/work with PC software.
