Lol!

Dam looks like you guys got hit pretty hard. The one vid where the road was taken out was incredible. I guess all that water running down the hills on already saturated ground spelled disaster. Sorry to hear of your loss.

I wanted to see what the potomic looked like and another small stream that sometimes overflows during heavy rainstorms not far from home, but there was no way I was driving anywhere. My area suffered little to no damage even with the previous rain we had most of the day before. Guess we were lucky.

Did you say cheese factory?! NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO! Irene you bi"""!!

I remember the week of heavy rain in eastern PA during the fall of 2010 being a bit worse for flooding, no? It covered a smaller region however, but it was quite dangerous to drive through. I remember driving to Scranton in the Volvo -- each time I reached the bottom of a hill the car would belly flop hard on the massive pool of water. That car was built like a rock.

EasternPA has gotten worse forflooding over the last few years. Much due to runaway development. In our area (along the Delaware River), towns have been taxing the heck out of farmers who end up selling out to big developers (like Toll Brothers). The developers have built enormous NYC/Philly suitcase communities, with the storm runnoff all routed to the river. Before that, the farm land simply absorbed it. Combine that with dumb expensive river tunnel in Trenton. It was designed to divert heavy truck traffic away from neighborhoods, but it was built so poorly, that nothing over 15,000GVW is allowed thru it, so the big trucks still rumble thru the same neighborhoods. The tunnel also pinched the Delaware River about 100' creating a bottlneck effect, that gets magnified during storms. Now the Delaware gets 100 yr floods every year.

I can remember a few years ago Alstead NH got pounded with rain for a few weeks and they ended up with a 500 year flood. Miles of an entire road was gone along a river there.

We're used to some flooding around the usual streams and rivers, but I don't think anyone expected this. I've seen footage like this from all over the state. I coldn't get back home now If I had to. Maybe by this weekend I'll be able to figure out how to get there.

Looks like Irene removed the "cottage" from Cottage cheese. Not "gouda" at all.

Wow. The flooding really has taken a turn for the worse overnight. Just about every river in Northern NJ has seen record crest levels. Route 46 is for the most part shut down from Clifton all the way out to Western Morris County (about 40 or so miles). Local news is reporting a hotel in Parsippany that has water completely submerging the first floor with people stuck above. Lincoln Park had a house EXPLODE due to weakened foundation and gas leak just about an hour ago.

As of now flood warnings are in effect until tomorrow at various times throughout the state. I am lucky enough to have to report to work at noon today. Delayed opening because my office (which is technically in the basement of the building) flooded with SEWAGE. Cant wait to for some productivity at the s*** helm.

Has anyone heard from LBC or the Long Island guys yet? Im fairly certain they were evacuated.

Found this video of downtown Denville NJ where I grew up (still just a 5 minute drive from where I live now, and my parents also still live there). Saddening to say the least. All locally owned businesses. Friend of mine's family owns the shop just to the right of the Denville Dairy. Rockaway River yet again, this is about 2-3 miles downstream of the pic I posted above.

I talked with my father back in VT, looks like the townsfolk are deploying their own equipment in a lot of places to make roads passable until they can be fixed for real. He can at least get to a functioning gas station to keep the generator going. Some places made out ok while other towns were wiped out. Rutland, Ludlow, and Chester have been hit real hard. Lots of covered bridges that were 130+ years old are floating down the Connecticut by now.

Just got back from helping my friends across town with their clean up (which has been ongoing since Sunday, and still far from over). Granted, they didnt lose their home but this is just to show the devastation this storm caused. Two blocks away 5 housed were condemned due to failed foundations. This is 3 miles from my home, I cant imagine what these people are going through.

Hole in the floor they made to rescue the cat from the basement which was flooded to the ceiling. Flood came so quickly they couldnt get it out. The cat went into the rafters and they heard it meowing the next day. No power so they smashed through the floor with a ballpein hammer.
Image
Maybe the saddest picture. Friends step father collected motorcycles. Not sure if the pic shows it but there are 3 more behind this one. Notice the water in the headlight. All are for the most part ruined.

Every 5 houses you have one of these, and the pile behind it, and the pile down the street. It looks like a war zone.

Dont get me wrong, this is far from the worst this storm caused. But it hit home and friends and family. I cant begin to fathom what these people are going through, let alone VT and the rest of the affected areas. If you know someone affected, or even if you dont, please try and help where you can.
