Went drifting again the 18th at the same track. Going back this coming weekend, too, haha. Jacked up my rear tire pressure to 50lbs each and it was much easier to slide, haha.

Who said single cams can't drift?

So it's been a while since I've last updated. Still not a whole lot going on, just learning the car. Had another event at Sundance Speedway on the 24th and 25th, 24th being night drifting. This gave me an excuse to wire up my neons. So here's just another reason for people to hate my car, hahaha. It's a StreetGlow Optix 7 color LED kit or something stupid like that, it was $40 so I couldn't say no, haha. You know me, I'm all about standing out.

I think they're f*** sweet, but no one got any action pictures when they were on because this happened. :(

I really need to get my car aligned so I can put my Ikeya Formula tie rods on. That comes next week... Hopefully. The single cam also developed an annoying idle from the event on the 18th, so I've been doing small things (with the help of MGE) like removing emissions equipment piece by piece to try and find the issue, which I believe is a vacuum leak within the emissions s***.

Anyway, when it comes to motor work, I've wanted to do a VH45 lately, but I'm slowly realizing that that's out of the question for the time being. So I think I'm just going to pick up a dual cam and do some small things to it and have it for next year. I don't know, I'll change my mind a million times. Stay tuned... Not that anyone follows this thread, haha.

Every time I see this car I think it can't get any better then you update the thread and your car has improved once again. I'd like to see a nice ka-t setup for this car. Make it happen.

I'd love to have a T4'd KA, but I'm just not a fan of turbo. They're too finiky and too much little s*** goes wrong.

It is getting a built dual cam, though. It'll match a coupe that is yet to be, and a Hardbody that are owned by two good friend's of mine. Stay tuned, I suppose.

I ordered a couple new parts and they'll be here next week, so I'll update it then. Nothing TOO exciting, haha.

Lol I follow this thread! A nice build DE would be a good choice, it'd be reliable and has enough power for most tracks. Your tires will last a lot longer too haha.

+1 on the turbo comment, if anything can go wrong it will. It's a hassle to deal with if something goes wrong at the track, but more power makes it worth it haha.

These past events have killed my bumper. I had the part beneath the hood resting on the factory bar and it broke the spot welds that connects it to the rad support, so I had a buddy weld up some brackets to keep the bumper from sagging. All of the tires, dirt drops, road construction and daily driving killed the bumper. It's stitched in so many places, haha.

And as for the neons being wired, they're a kit that plug into themselves and they have a controller, which I mounted in the engine bay because I A) don't want to be tempted to turn them on while driving, and B) because I didn't feel like fishing the wires through the firewall because I installed them 3 hours before I left for the night event, hahah.

Oh, and RAAAAAAAVE PARRRRTYYYYYYYYYY

I wish they would change color on their own but I have to do it manually. :/

Anyway, small update. I ordered some 15mm PBM spacers. Neat. Wanna know what's not neat?
Image

Not even thinking about the fact that you have extended studs already. Know what that means? Yup, you guessed it, they don't even fit. So now I either have to A) go back to regular studs or B) beat out the studs in the spacers and run them as slip ons, haha.
Image

I also lowered the rear of the car another inch and a half today because I'm FINALLY getting the car aligned on sunday. :naughty:

I'm pretty much keeping this for my own record, haha.

Pretty big update today... FINALLY got the damn car aligned. :D
As for me lowering it the other day, I hear some scraping, didn't really have time to get under it and check because I figured it was just rubbing on the overfenders... Wrong.
Image
Yeah, the rear wheel scraped the inside of the wheel well under compression; cool.

I got it aligned from a buddy of mine and he helped throw the arms and all on because he had a lift and air tools and such, so it was rather easy.

I'm going to work on some wheel fitment hopefully tomorrow... I had to raise the car all around just a tiny bit because the sensors couldn't even see each other to get a reading for alignment, haha.

Well I leik your updates. Good work. Does your friend offer alignment time for non-drifter brohans like me? lol.I hope you get the spacers sorted out.

Yeah, I'm sure he'd align your car... Not really worth the 2 hour drive, but I went to him because he had the tools and resources to install all of the arms.

As for fitment, it's eh... I need to put more than two bolts in the front fenders, haha. I punched the studs out of my PBM spacers and I'm currently running them as a 15mm slip on. The rear fitment is pretty s***, but I don't care anymore... I don't want to mess up my alignment. It's not sunk or anything, but it's not ZOMGHELLZAFRUSH or anything.
Image

MGE and his brother came over yesterday to hangout for a bit but I had to head to work... They were trying to figure out why my car was idling like s***... I had to leave so I left the keys and got this picture. They removed all of my emissions s***, which I wasn't even expecting, haha. The car idles back up at 800-900 but is still a little rough, so I'm just going to dual cam swap it and call it a day with this damn motor. It pulls better than ever, though, haha.

Yessss! removed crap haha!
I bet it pulls better like u said, bc no more inert gasses bein forced into your intake charge.

I'll probably align it myself this weekend. If I suspect I didn't do a good job I will look into it man.

Nah, I'll just leave it off of the dual cam when I swap it in, haha.

And yes, Tom, the car pulls like it's never pulled before and I LOVE it... Now if only it would idle smooth I'd be happy.

Ha, no kidding.

I've just been saving my money and daily driving the car all winter. I finally bought a motor... Okay, well, two. Bought an SR from a local buddy who decided to start over on his project. So now I have a spring/summer project.

I bought the motors completely unassembled. However, when I started pulling stuff out of the boxes, I noticed something strange. I pulled out an igniter and distributer for an NA SR... Then MGE noticed the wiring harness was for an NA motor. So no coil packs. That had me quite upset thinking I just got an NA SR motor set with a turbo slapped onto it. After doing some research on the castings on the block, head, pistons and cams, we concluded that the motor was indeed a turbo motor but the previous owner ran an NA distributor setup. I have no idea why... Anyway, less talking, more pictures.
Here's everything I brought home last night.
Image
I got:
2x SR blocks, both disassembled for full rebuild.
2x SR 5 speed transmissions.
1x SR head with NA cams.
BNIB Full OEM gasket set
BNIB ARP head studs
Stock SR T25 turbo with HKS wastegate actuator.
Flywheel, oil pump, and everything else to swap... minus the coil packs.

Here are the cylinder walls. #4 was clean, but the picture came out blurry, and I can't stand blurry pictures, so I didn't include it.

And here's the gasket kit, complete with the OEM liquid gasket. :)
Image

The plan is to get the block machined to OEM spec. Have everything polished (cams, crank, etc) ACL race bearings. 3 angle valve job. New OEM rings. Basically I want to run a stock, rebuilt SR. It's going to take some time and money, but it'll be awesome once it's done.

EsssssssU ArrrrrrrrrrrrU Twenty! haha I had to do it again. It's my japanese sr20 accent.

Glad you finally picked an engine platform to build on man. There's a reason so many ppl use them aside from shiny aluminium bits lul. Good weight balance, power when you need it, MPG's when you don't. Get a nice torque wrench and get to work yo!

Got a little bit of work done on the SR today. FINALLY got a To Buy list and a To Do list.

Things I need to buy:
Image

Things I need to do before I re-assemble.
Image

Machine work comes before I buy anything else, so it'll be a little while. I torn down the turbo today to see how everything was, and to my surprise, not a single gasket blow-out and NO shaft play. I won't even have to rebuild the turbo. Oh, and the HKS wastegate actuator. :)

More later.

Whew man what a list. I hope you'll be ignoring some of that stuff initially just to get it running and driving? Things like the PS cooler, swirl tank and oil filter relocation.. Just a thought.
Turbo looks minty! The gaskets look oem and non leaky. Awesomee.
Do you or Keegs know/think a maxima clutch can hold more clamping force than a stage 1 exedy SR replacement ?

BTW I have a cylinder honing tool if you want to clean up those walls. Not sure if you'll have a shop do that.
