Hi guys, I just wanted to voice an opinion and see what the rest of you think. I have noticed over the past few months signatures are getting huge! They take up 3/4 the screen on 800x600 resolution and for dialup users.. they can't even load up the page hardly. I was just curious if possibly the mods should get together and possibly come up with some size regulations so that everyone in the community can be happy and browse the site easily.

I am aware users can turn off sigs in the admin, and also i don't know if this has been discussed before, and I hope I don't get flamed! I just wanted to know what the rest of you guys' opinions on this was.

So, let the comments begin!Should NICO regulate signature sizes?

Would you concider mine too big? Im in favor of pixil limitations, like 400x150 or something along those lines.

I have that problem because of the crappy ad layout.

I am on cable so I am not affected too muc.

I will try surfng w/ dialup tp see what it does.

You can always go to cp and disable the sigs for your view.

Fred..:)

PS: My sig is not small but it needs to be the way it is as a sounding board for club stuff

I like to keep pics in my sig, but I keep them reasonable. Small stuff, that doesn't make it so I have to scroll over to read the whole post.

There is no way that I could possibly agree more! With every ounce of my tattered soul I hate the layout of this site when it comes to ads. I recognize that they are a necessary evil... but they could be setup differently.

Yeah I agree, the ad layout is a lil aggervating. But sigs are crazy.. for example Get240DiZzY sig takes up my entire screen on 800x600 resolution. And on dialup, this page takes 4-6 minutes to load, with only 7 post. Kind of rediculous.

If any of the mods would like to speak to me about helping them with the layout or anything, I would be glad to, I have been designing sites for 7 years now.

Keep the comments coming guys!

PS: Get240DiZzY, please take no offense, was just using your sig as an example.

How so? I always assumed the site was designed with the intention that you HAD to see the ads before going to a forum. What would be an alternative to the current layout? And I am grateful beyond words that there are no popups to be found!

I think it would be a lot better to have 2-3 sets of rotating banners, for layout concerns. I am not sure how advertisers would feel, though. Any input from the sponsors?

That’s is why on users control panel under “Options” Thread View Options: “Show user's signatures in their posts?” yes/no

so instead of complaining that you have a slow connection or a crappy resolution turn that option off...

that is all…nothing to see here

That is why CLEARLY in my post if you read all of it I said I KNOW it's an option in the admin. BUT some people DO like to see sigs, but maybe not the ones who kill their internet.

sigs should be limited because a handful of people don't want to turn off the sigs but they want to see sigs that fit their needs…I don’t think so

How about an option to just turn off sig pictures?

I emailed Fred about this signature about two weeks ago LOL. TOld him it was way too big and suggested another format that could sell the same info. Of course he didn't do anything about it :)

I now have sigs turned off. I think a maximum of 5 lines at this size or 6 lines at this size would be good

FOr just images perhaps 450 x 125

And both images and text...

I have my screen resolution set to 1400x1050 and some of the sig pics are so big they make the scroll bar show up across the bottom of my IE window. I think that's a bit much. I'd never turn off sigs, but I wish the pics were limited in width and a limit on the "total length" of the sig, who's the guy with 20 or 30 lines of "mods"?

I would consolidate my sig to be more lateral if I could, but I can't figure out how to do that. Mine is pretty narrow, so if I could just make it side to side more, it would only be as tall as the picture, which is decently small.

Plus, I can't get rid of the quote from HKC!

Umm... either I didn't do it right or it already is. I pasted a block of vbcode around the whole thing for size 1...

The text is smaller, I don't think there's anyway for you to get the 2 things side by side. Trust me (maybe "us") yours isn't a problem :D

You could use photoshop to make the quote by hkc a transparent image with black text and then put it right underneath the sentra. That would cut some space from the top and bottom of the quote.

Also you could put shift_ in your image of your car.

Also for better quality and perhaps faster load times use NICO's photopost. those cardomain logos are damn annoying

I use 1280x1024 and I'm on DSL. I think the sigs are too big in many cases. Any sig that takes up more than 3" on my screen is way too much. I still want to see the rest of the sigs though...

I think its pretty crazy to have a 1-4 line post and then hav a 6-20 line signature. Perhaps if you obtain a unique part or buy a new car an image in your sig is cool, but otherwise eh whatever. Its not really the speed of loading that boths me, just the readability of the forums. (I already have the ads turned off heh :))
