None taken, I thought mine was one of the smaller ones, though. :sad

I try to be considerate, since I hate it when people's sig pics make it so I have to scroll over.

P.S. - for you 56k-ers, I took the movie out of my sig. :thinker

For the non-dial-uppers (just made up that word), it's as much about readability than speed. If you have to scroll 3/4's of a screen to get past a 2 line post with a 15 to 20 line sig, it just breaks the flow/continuity of reading posts.

Good call Rex. I like the creative sigs, but they can be too outrageous.

gtune4 - We're all VERY impressed that you have something better than dialup.

However, I'd ask that you keep the worthless comments (such as your last one) to yourself.

Fast connection, slow car? ;) (j/k, guys - don't freak)

Do you strive to be an ******* or is it just natural for you? Some people can't afford anything more than dialup and should not be penalized for that. I agree that many signatures are ridiculous, there should definitely be a cap on their size.

Apparently, spelling properly is for "loosers" too.

Only one "O" next time, Sparky. :)

well it doesnt personally bother me much because i have cable, however i feel for the aol users here. I think sigs should be limited to a certain line length (and pics regulated as well) but don't make the readers turn sigs completely off. Sometimes you get a nice update about whats going on with a friends car from his sig, i dunno, id just rather em on but not take up so much space.

He maybe being an *** by saying what he did however I don't feel the Internet should be limited with rules and regulations just because somebody is broke or can't get broadband....

Not my fault you are broke or live in the sticks... sucks to be you

Thanks for the input guys.

Well, obviously, the people with lower resolution computers and slower connections are having problems.

So why couldn't NICO take another step forward to help the community by posting signature regulations to limit size? It wouldn't 'hurt' the cable connection guys. right?

I don't see why people wouldnt be willing to help out the guys les fortunate so they can enjoy the NICO community just like the rest of us without hassles.

Just to clarify guys. I am not saying to ban signatures or anything. I am simply saying to just make guidelines for them such as:

1) file size (KB)2) file heigh/width3) text line amount/size

All you have to do is look at it like this.. for the cable guys who don't care about this subject... would it hurt you? no. Would it help out the other guys on dialup? yes. would everyone be happy in the end? of course.

And if that doesnt convince you.. take into consideration that your NICO founders could be helped by us doing this. Smaller sigs = Less Bandwidth used = Less money spent by our NICO founders.

So let me know what you guys think! Thanks!

I have DSL (still slow) and work on a 19" monitor at 1600x1200 resolution, and the really big sigs STILL bug me. A reasonable sized pic isn't a problem, some text isn't a problem, but when you have a big pic or your car followed by every mod down to your new shift boot, it's excessive. Why not put a small pic and a link to a cardomain site or something if you want people to be able to know what you have? Are you just trying to show off?

Thanks for the comments/votes guys. Keep 'em comin! I would like to hear from a lot more members what they think. So try to refer people to this post :)

Also I would like to hear from some of the mods/admins what they think? Or if they would consider guidelines for sigs?

:bowdown :bowdown :bowdown

Im on a multi T3 connection and big signatures irk the crap out of me. I dont need a 1024x760pixil picture of someones car sitting in the middle of a thread.

The shoping lists are also annoying, thats what Cardomain.com is for.

We have (or had?) guidelines in place.

maybe our server switch didnt bring all settings over....

I'll bring it up on the Mod forum, see what the sentiment is there.

sorry :( I guess mine's one of those deemed too large for dial up users... I think if you don't want to deal with slow loading time, turn off the sigs, or if you do want to see the sigs, just deal with the wait time! you can't have your cake and eat it too...

The only thing I could see is maybe a limit on how wide they are, because it sucks for someone to have a sig so wide you need to keep scrolling back and forth to read the thread.

I did like the new signature change that happened not too long ago, where only your first post of the page has your sig in it. before that everytime you replied there was a picture after your post. now THAT was annoying!

Good god, I just tried 1280x1024...how the hell can you read anything? It's so small! Back to 800x600 before this makes me ill.

true! if cable modem wasn't already included in my rent, I woulnd't have it! it IS expensive.

BUT!!! the key point is that no one forces him (or anyone else) to look at sig pictures. he can (and should if it causes such a problem for him) shut them off! I for one enjoy sig pictures! that damn pancake bunny still makes me grin every time I see it :pface

Perhaps, but shouldn't the main part of the website (such as a horizontal or vertical nav bar) convey and show the links to the important parts of NICO, not the ancillary signatures?

And is it really necesary to have 3 or 4 smilies when none may not be as 'cute' but surely looks neater and improves readability; Not to mention load times.

Signatures are truly useful for your names, phone numbers, email addresses, year and type of car, mileage of car, links to important car meets, links to new rules or regulations, links to other websites that are related to NICO and what not. Morphing them to include tons of images, large text, modifications, quotes, and what not is not their best use IMO. They could easily be contained on a car domain, tripod, or pay host if you truly think it is necesary. Hell, you guys with cable should have web space privded to you buy your ISP that you should put to use.

But I dunno, perhaps the true focus of these boards is home star runner, chat, and noodles. Not the fastest quarter mile time or cleanest Q45.

THe main reason I would like to have signatures turned on is that many members have information in their signature such that I have stated above. I would like to have access to this information rather than have it turned off.

As Fred stated, Important links are often asked for but I think that anything haveing to do with the site should be contained on it in a navigation portion. Links that could be of use is a freshly written tutorial or thread conatining pictures of your car.

Like was previously stated, sig's are great, they are fun too look at, but not if they take up the whole screen. This is more of a courtesy issue than anything else. We could be like Fresh Alloy and not alow signatures at all, but what fun would that be?

Sean yours isnt too bad, and it serves a point: to inform people about an event.

Like i said earlier, im on a T3 and run 1024x768 and there are some sigs that are just WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYY too big for my liking.

But couldn't that event be as easily conved with two lines of text and a link rather than a huge signature.

Such as:

Attention Drift Fans!D Day Bay Area drifting even will take place at the Tampa Bay St/ Petersburg campus on Sat, 2-21-04. All Fans and drivers are requested to attend/ or enterA thread containing further details
