It does feel like your driving a truck but once I get a short shifter it'll be perfect probably. All I need to do is remove the brass fitting thats in there and switch it to the right thread size.

My shift knob was starting to flake off onto my hand and just feel slimy if I left my windows down over night. So I tore the leather off and ended up with the rubber knob you're speaking of with the 1st through reverse gear set. Does look good but I also hated the feel of it. So again tore off the rubber. You end up with a black plastic skeleton underneath. Again, not very nice to hold onto since it has sharp edges. So I proceeded to bash it into the concrete floor in my cousin's basement until the plastic shattered off the steel core. There was plastic inside the center so I wanted that out too. I clamped the knob in a vice and selected the correct diameter drill bit and drilled the plastic out as far down as I felt was safe without damaging the threading. I then ground off all the paint until it was nice and shiny like polished steel. I used that for about 2 weeks and I was fed up with the metal beginning to rust. So I ground off the rust and used black primer for a good coating.zach-Ka wrote:

which if you remove the leather there is a very nice knob underneath with the 1st-reverse gear sets engraved in it... It's like a transformer...
