Project silvia is in the new sport compact with a quick spooling turbo and awsome custom radiator / intercooler install. Ford MAF, nismo 555 injectors, and jwt ecu.

THey also said they put down 155hp at the dyno with stock everything, even the exhaust, i thought that was kind of low for an sr what do you guys think???

the stock exaust sucks *** with turbos. its like an inch in diamiter.

Everyone always has such a narrow minded opinion when it comes to HP figures. Enormous peak horse power wouldnt do me any good for what im trying to acomplish. If im trying to drift (yeah yeah, i know, you all think drifting is stupid) and i dont make decent boost until 5,500 rpms than the turbo i put on is useless...

I want a turbo that spools quicker than yo momma puts out! :D

They are building drift machine, not quarter mile monster. Sure they may only make 274rwhp, but at what rpm and with what kinda torque curve? You guys sound like supra drivers. "I have 9999999999999999rwhp (at 99999999999rpm and 9999psi)."

they spent way too much on that setup. they used a garret GT28 turbo. basicly a fancier version of the S15 turbo.

the 1800$ turbo and 1300$ exhaust were definately on the excessive side. and they bought a bunch of stuff from JWT which is notoriously expensive on anything.

you could build the same setup a lot cheaper than they did. face it who REALLY needs a TI exhaust. Garret GT turbos are cheaper than that now. you could get a BB T28 or T3 from turbonetics for even less than a Garret GT or even an S15 turbo. 300zx MAF will support more HP than that overpriced ford MAF that they used and could likely be found cheaper. you can get custom intercooler piping done by a shop for quite a bit less than the pipe kits.

this latest part of project silvia has disappointed me. it looked like they were going to stick to a mostly cost effective buildup then they put a bunch of overpriced stuff on the car.

7600$ for 280hp is not a lot of bang for the buck with an SR. and remember this 7600$ does not include the cost of the engine.

you could build a similar engine for a lot less than that if you know what to look for

BTW an S15 T28 would be a very cost effective alternative to the GT28 as its nearly identical and costs less than half what they paid for their turbo. if you were looking to build a drift setup. you could get a T3/T4 hybrid for about the same as the S15 turbo if you wanted a dragstrip monster

Maybe its a good thing though, maybe some tools will rule out the SR and 240sx's because they will think it costs too much money to get power out of them. After all, SCC ONLY got 274 hp out of almost 8 grand worth of gear!

i looked at the list of stuff they got and most of it had to do with all the cooling crap they got that isnt nessecary...

EDIT: ok i just looked at it again and heres stuff they dont need:

JIC titanium exaust $1,240 (:rolleyes )Nismo injectors $800 (they definatly got ripped there)landspeed caty $300 (are you joking me? 300 bucks for a cat?)Disco Potato T too small $1800 (a really unnessacary price for a turbo extremely similar to the s15 turbo...)Apex'i intercooler and piping $1350 (holy ****!, you can get the kit for like 900 bucks, what are they thinking?)ForD Cobra MAF $325 (why??? the 300zx can be had for 80 bucks and supports more flow)

but if this was what they needed to get exactly the result they wanted, it was worth it IMO.

From specs alone, the Potato should offer more top-end than a GT25r. The spool should be very similar though.

Also, I don't know if anyone looked at the dyno, but the Potato spooled almost exactly as quickly as the stock T25 but then soared past it in hp. This would make a great street turbo for what a lot of people ask for here. I'd be curious to see what it would make with a real SR ECU or a standalone, better non-cali gas, and more boost.

No pics, No posts, No proof. If you dont have any evidence, no-one will belive just like i don't (unless 1- you using cheap *** parts or 2- you got a parts hookup, which i still wont belive)

sorry if i sound mean or something but 430 wheel hp costs alot more than 7 grand with a SR20 in the equation if you dont want to break stuff.

If you DO have a parts hook up can you be my freind? :D

Yeah, if you look at the flow maps they give and the rate at which that turbo starts making boost, it's pretty wicked, one hell of a street turbo if you ask me

i'm sorry for hurting anybodies feelings when i said it was garbage. i just think you can get more boost if you know how to use your money. don't trust big retail stores. i know you guys saw that turbo so crap turbo for $1800 come on you guys know a good size turbo goes for like $850 like 60-1 capable for up to 550hp. not always good to buy name brands like that. It won't matter cause nobody gives warrenty on high performance parts. iand like i said i wish i can post my pics of my car if anyone can help i will send them via e-mail. thanks

Yup. Guys, don't forget that their prices will ALWAYS be inflated. Otherwise, the people who advertise in the magazine would kill them.

the turbo isn't really a max boost/hp turbo, it's a broad accessible powerband turbo, delivering power smoothly and linearly, although the fact that you can get 20psi out of it is a bonus but the #'s they got were at 15psi, with basically, SR, intake, exhaust, intercooler, Cobra mass airflow sensor, and JWT ecu program, that's not really much work, it's just a lot of parts, and they've gained 119hp@the wheels over the stock SR with the stock exhaust, I don't see how this is crap. Yeah, you can get a bigger turbo, but you'll need injector upgrades, fuel pump, rail etc... and you really don't have the ridiculously tractable power this turbo does, you've really got to see the dyno map, there's no spike, it just pulls in almost a straight line from 2K-5500rpm the turbo money went into the tech of the turbo, not the ultimate flow capability

60-1 turbo will not get you there.greddy headgasket is 87mm, will not seat properlytwo custom built manifolds , i better be scared!!E6K and a DiS2?? No need for DIS2.without major headwork you will be NOWHERE near your goals.
