May I ask why?KC240SR wrote:no, get a civic.
I don't have much experience driving a RWD vehicle, but my dad will be teaching me how to drive stick(I suck at it, because I only practiced a few times on my friends 240) so I should get a feel for the car and everything during his teaching I figured. And no, I'm not very mechanically inclined lol. Thats kind of why I want to get this car, because it has a few mods done already, and it looks good, so I won't have to do anything that will end in me f*cking it up.I mean, I could probably do basic things, but anything huge like swapping out a transmission or something I wouldn't be able to do.Do these cars have alot of problems like that? or is it rare?DrifterXRPS13 wrote:It looks like a nice clean car but have you had any experience driving a rear wheel drive car or know anything about autos in general? Would you know how to repair something on an older vehicle if something should go wrong? if not the bill can get very expensive?
Don't get me wrong, my first car was an s13 but i had plenty of experience with rear wheel drive vehicles before it and bikes as well.
Thanks for your input, I have thought about the same thing. Down the road from me is an old Mazda pickup for $2500, and I thought about getting that, but in the end, I know I'd end up selling it as soon as I graduated(within the next year). I just want a car I won't end up selling in the next year, and I know I won't with this car.But if I don't get this car, I'll probably get the pickup.wackawacka wrote:I would personally go for something a little more practical. Less slammed. More doors. 17 year old me would probably not agree. I think you would be able to "handle" it and it would be fun to drive, but you might want to consider getting a beater first.
Dang, 100k miles is *low* ? LolYeah, my friend has a S13 hatch, he might actually be on this website, never asked him about it, but I'm sure he would help me out with everything.DrifterXRPS13 wrote:No, these cars only really have one major problem and that is the timing chain but with that low mileage it really shouldn't be a problem if it was taken care of which it looks like it has.
Well it's good that your dad will be teaching you certain things but i agree with wackawacka, try and get a beater that you can just get acclimated to cause you are young and will probably want to have fun...i know that's what i did when i got my s13 and i was 19 at the time but mine had a crap load of issues, lol.
If you've never driven a modified ride, you should ask some of your friends tips on how to take care of them and how to drive them because when a vehicle is that low, you have to consider lots of things, speed and road condition being the top two that come to mind.
You seem like you have a good head on your shoulders, so if you feel like you can handle it, go for it.
The owner has a build there on Nico? I say find that thread so you can know what you're getting into. But at first glance, I'd say get it if you've got the money. Looks like most of the hard work has already been done for you. Provided that there's no rust and the frame is straight, $4000 is a decent price for a car of that caliber, IMO.sebazztard wrote:thats my buddys car, completely went through. there is a thread on here somewhere about it, the outcome is very impressive. i would go for this in a heartbeat, his work ethic is top notch when it comes to building s13's.
Hey can you post a link to that thread?? I'm not really sure to start looking for it myselfsebazztard wrote:thats my buddys car, completely went through. there is a thread on here somewhere about it, the outcome is very impressive. i would go for this in a heartbeat, his work ethic is top notch when it comes to building s13's.
Damn, that must have sucked! Thanks for the warnings!Slammed cars do look sick though. And I'm not really worried about ride quality(i probably should be), because I'll be the only one driving it and my friends 240 rides pretty well so I figure it'll be about the same or a bit harsher.DrifterXRPS13 wrote:lol, yea 100k on s13s is considered on the lower end...mine was at 153k and had every problem you can think of and still didn't die...
with a lowered car yes, speed bumps are an issue, your driveway is an issue...any place that has a decline or an incline...i ripped my exhaust off about a month ago parking in an underground parking garage because i misjudged the angle of it....my error but it goes to show ya that even if you've been driving for as long as i have with a lowered care, crap like this does happen
you have to take those inclines and declines very slowly or it will hurt, not only you but the suspension....lowered vehicles suspension depending on the components of the vehicle will suck to drive on regular roads....if you've never been driven a car with aftermarket suspension, you feel every bump in the road, every crack...and watch out for potholes moreso than in a stock vehicle.
yeah you know, i gotta live that FAST AND FURIOUS lifestyle 24/7 baby!DRIVE FAST OR DIE HARD!maryjane wrote:ive got money that he wrecks this clean car within a year.
QFT!!.hbpignosePA wrote:im pretty sure you can handle a 140 hp car; even as a novice driver to those that are just RWD fanboy's its not that hard- just dont drive like an idiotand if you parents are buying why the hell not?
Some do and some don't. Usually its only the SE Hicas equipped models with ABS. But most ppl prefer non-ABS cars. I know I do. My buddy w/ ABS wants his system deleted. The system is so antiquated that it shouldn't factor into your decision, IMO...thatskarma wrote:Major Question: After reading the thread where the guy crashed his car, I was wondering if S13's have ABS for the brakes?
Oh ok thanks. I just never driven a non abs car before other than my friends 240 and i forgot how it felt.simmode1 wrote:
