My first marriage ended because my wife at the time was cheating on me.

I am thankful every day that happened, because if not, I wouldn't have found my current wife who makes me so happy I feel almost ashamed of myself.

Because, silly. No one can do anything unless a law tells them they have to.

And was your ex, on his better days, able to muster up the neural activity to send enough simple, morse-code-like messages between his remaining two brain cells and tie his own shoes? If so, I'm surprised.

When he is sober, he is fully functioning and is quite smart, TBH. However, as you can probably guess, those moments were few and far between.
