I have the turbo flanges on order and I need to have head flanges made at the machine shop. I have no plans to post anything until the manifold is complete. This will take some time.

Question: Though you say you are using custom conrods would it be possible to use CA20 rods and the accompanying pistons of the appropriate bore with your fancy crank?

CA20 rods define weak and useless. Even if they would bolt up, which they don't, you would not want to use them. When I have the thing done anybody coming after me will just need to contact the rod company and request the TMS signature rods.

And how much will a set of those puppies set you back?

Also, based on some info you've told us in this thread I did some research and bit of math and I think I've got your block/crank figured out. I'd pester you about it more via PM but it doesn't look like this board has that function. I don't wanna post it here, lest I actually am right and ruin your surprise.

**Edit: 'Nother question: What about flywheel/clutch/transmission options?

custom rods are going to be in the $800.00 price range. I was hoping I could use an off the shelf rod with a new length but it just isn't going to work. I am going to have to send a rod out to Pauter or Crower, Eagle told me to go f myself. if somebody would buy one of my %#@&^ turbo kits I could buy the damned things!

I wondered about using SR20 rods but assuming they're miraculously the right length and your crank journals and piston pinholes are the same size as the regular CA18 ones then everything is about 2mm too small.

I suppose a custom set of pistons for the rods that accompany the magical crank are just as expensive a proposition as the custom rods?

A completely custom set of pistons is still a few hundred less than a set of completely custom rods from what I have seen. My buddy had to get some completely custom slugs for his crazy abomination of a honda motor, and I think he paid about $630 from CP.

I am looking at 4G63 pistons. They are 85mm at the smallest and have a beefy 22mm pin. I want to have the rods made so they can use off the shelf pistons if possible. I worry about the valve reliefs though.

The cheapest route would be some custom pistons with off the shelf rods, but no dice eh? 22mm pin size is quite hoss, you wouldnt be breaking that thing much would you.

no rods are compatible with this crank or the correct length.

So no dice on using the stock rods from the motor the crank came out of?

I think it's on the back burner until I give him money and he has more time.

Did this project eventually get anywhere? Did the combo internals work out?

Not really. The internals won't swap between blocks. I was supposed to have a way to get the block over here, but the guy that was supposed to be able to do it, dis-appeared, and FedEx'ing a block from Japan to the US is about a $1K ordeal.

Nobody from Oki in the military moving back your way that can put it in their household goods? That would be the easiest and cheapest way to get something like that back. I got a guy in the US bringing me some goodies back to Germany the same way.

What block/crank was it? Is it still a secret?

That's EXACTLY what I had planned, but the guy has fallen off the face of the earth. IDK anybody else there coming back this way.

The block is still wrapped up nice ready to go whenever a shipping method can be worked out. Durned iron block is too heavy to mail.

I can get it shipped FedEx, but it'll be outrageous. Supposedly UPS ships out of Japan now, so maybe I need to get a quote from them. I seriously doubt it would be much less than FedEx though.

Anybody know an engine importer?

LOL, I'm a decent welder, but not THAT good. That'd take A LOT of pre-heating to weld that much cast iron.
