Hey... I'm new to the Infiniti forums (yes, Infiniti, not Nissan.. LoL, I'm in denial, leave me alone.)
Anyways, I bought a 1991 Q45 about a week ago. No pictures yet...Basically, I'm turning it into a cheapo performance ride. I bought it from a guy that got it from the police auctions, picked it up for $750 and it's in pretty good shape. The interior was trashed, so I took it all out. Plus someone had stolen it, so it's completely gutted. >:-)
No dash, no seats, no carpet, no A/C or heater... It's basically 2 front seats, a cross bar with all the gauges, a steering wheel and a couple pedals. E-fan should be here Tuesday, too. These things are monsters, I came from a 1986.5 NA Supra and thought it was pretty damn quick, this Q45 would break its heart.
It's got a few problems. The ECU is telling me the O2 sensor(s) need replaced, an injector issue and the EGR. Also getting the stop light inoperative message, but that should be easily fixed with a new bulb socket on the inside passenger light. I've given it a cheapo tuneup, Mobil 1 full synthetic oil change with K&N filter and 8 cylinder Restore, new platinum plugs, Lucas fuel treatment and new belts. Once payday comes back around, I'll give it what it's asking for. (not really looking forward to that O2 sensor, though... Those things are in the worst spot ever.
This thing needs a little love, apparently the previous owners cheaped out and got their cousin's friend's boyfriend to do their tuneups. A few plugs weren't even finger tight, the oil was burnt and belts were all but ready to snap.
The only issue I'm not too sure about how to fix is the gas tank wreaks, whenever I fill it up, I can smell the gas... It goes away as it empties, I'll check all the lines and make sure everything's tightened down and if that doesn't help I'll most likely come crying to you guys. ;-)
Anyways, yeah, this should be fun. Gonna get under the hood tomorrow and pull out the A/C condenser and finish emptying the interior, put this thing on a diet and see how much weight I can drop from it... I love the sound deadening, in most cars that stuff is a pain to get out, it just peels right up (aside from the nasty tar crap it leaves behind). I'm aiming for about 300-375HP and (crossing finger) 3,400Lbs . It's a quick, big bastard as it is... Hits 60 in about the time listed for stock, it's running rich as hell, though. A little more work and it should be all squared away.
Sorry about the book.-Chris
