Just installed one yesterday, on my M56S. It is quite a departure from the stock exhaust. I like the robust note. So far, no interior cabin resonance...I love it. It is now coupled with the HPS intake hoses. Quite a "feel good" combination and highly appropriate for the vehicle.16q70l wrote:I just had my oem sport exhaust come in and installed. I love it. Not tinny but a nice deep growl to it. It sounds fantastic. It sounds awesome at startup and just idling. My wife doesn't seem bothered by it either so thats a good thing.
The cat deletes that folks talk about refer to the cats that are part of the front Y-pipe assembly. These do not have anything to do with emissions. The main cats that are part of the emissions control are integrated into the exhaust manifolds as one unit. These are not deleted.JBHorne wrote:How are you doing cat deletes and still passing emissions? Does it depend on the state?
Would "test pipes" then be a true cat delete?armybrat wrote:The cat deletes that folks talk about refer to the cats that are part of the front Y-pipe assembly. Yes true test pipes would be cat delete (exhaust manifolds in the M56). Technically you wouldn't use that term to denote the secondary cat replacement. To my knowledge, there are no "test" pipes that replace the exhaust manifolds themselves, plus you couldn't pass emissions anyway in most if not all states. Some folks who run custom exhausts start from the exhaust manifolds, deleting everything back. Some folks start from the secondary cats and delete just the Y-pipe and resonators. Deleting the secondary set of cats will not affect emissions or throw any kind of CEL, but it will make your exhaust note louder. Just depends on what you want to accomplish.PostalsQ wrote:Test pipes from what I have read are cat delete
I replaced the Y-pipe with a custom 2.5" pipe and it KILLED my low end torque. I put the factory Y pipe back. I still run the Stillen intakes and longer cat-back exhaust. I also received test pipes as well, but did not install them as I still want to pass emissions. If I wanted to put the Y-pipe back on, do I have to get a re-tune to not lose low end torque? It was a significant loss. Thanks for the help!armybrat wrote:Yes true test pipes would be cat delete (exhaust manifolds in the M56). In my opinion, a 2-1/2" X-pipe is right for the V8 but too large for the V6. No wonder you lost low end performance. The MAF sensor is probably detecting a lean condition and the ECU is pulling timing to compensate. Yes you can put the factory Y-pipe back and the ECU will compensate. I would suggest a custom tune to take advantage of the increased airflow with the Stillen. You definitely need a custom tune if you add HFC's and/or custom Y-pipe/X-pipe.JBHorne wrote:I replaced the Y-pipe with a custom 2.5" pipe and it KILLED my low end torque. Hope to have the mufflers on pretty soon.
I will, hopefully with stock vs sport video/pics.RED_DET wrote:biggie wrote:Just ordered mine from https://www.tunerzstore.com/ yesterday (bday present for myself).

Pics or ban....
Yeah I'll get it open this week sometime. Box looks in good shape though.RED_DET wrote:I would probably open it to check for any damage... I don't trust UPS or any shipping company for that matter.
Yeah, I need to find the time to do that.RED_DET wrote:Need some heat to bend that hanger on the driver side.
Its amazing how much lighter the sport mufflers are...the factory ones weight a ton LOL.biggie wrote:Got it installed. No vids yet. Driver's side is just a bit closer to the bumper and that makes me nervous. Old bolts on stock pipes were insanely hard to get off, had to go with impact gun.
Correct. We have them listed on our website.moneyteamlouis wrote:And this would work on an M37X as well?
The stock exhaust is 2" Y-pipe and 2" mid pipe/resonators all the way back to 2" stock mufflers. The sport mufflers are also 2" inlet and outlet. FYI the resonators choke down to 1-3/4" ID.1080Rider wrote:A little off topic... is our exhaust 2 inch or 2.25? It is weird to me that all the exhaust kits are interchangeable between the V6 and V8. There is a big difference in hp and torque between the two motors and where one could excel w/ a big exhaust, the other would lose two much low end torque to make a big kit worthwhile... I have a exhaust shop nearby that does tons of custom work for hotrods and stuff. I'll probably have them do up a kit for me that goes up one size (2 to 2.25) and includes high flowing mufflers, unless the stock exhaust is 2.25 then I'll probably just go w/ higher flow mufflers.
Great info! A 2.25 from cat back would really open up the exhaust system!armybrat wrote: The stock exhaust is 2" Y-pipe and 2" mid pipe/resonators all the way back to 2" stock mufflers. The sport mufflers are also 2" inlet and outlet. FYI the resonators choke down to 1-3/4" ID.
Yes it would...I went up to 2-1/2" X-pipe on my M56, from the exhaust manifold back.1080Rider wrote:Great info! Replied to your PM, but no I haven't got a video yet.DocJim wrote:Biggie - any Video of Sport Mufflers yet? How do they sound?
