Ok guys, I just wanted to start my swap thread. Dee's shipping out my motor today or tommorrow, and I figured it is time to start my swap thread. lol. The engine is a CA18DE that Dee has converted to DET. Totally rebuilt, DET pistons, rods, the works. The headgasket, etc, etc. I'm so excited. I hope to put it in this coming week (spring break). Dee is sending pics, so I'll post those when I can, then take some of my own when I can. So, any comments, suggestions, anything? This thread will become less worthless, I promise:thinker :ylsuper BTW, this is the car it's going in to. The only changes are I painted the stock wheels black, and I shaved the rear decklid of everything.

Awsome man! i cant wait to see the finished product.

Your next buy should be suspension stuff after the CA is in.

Yea, at first, what I wanted was to start with suspension. tein He's, SPL pieces, etc. But, my confidance in my KA is not good. 214,000 miles, burnign alittle oil... I am much more a roadrace/drift/handling type of guy, not all out power. But, figured i should take care of the trouble stuff first.

Yea, I keep debating about that color. I want black, but I do like the Green. I think I might fix the body, spray it flat black, then have it painted green again. I dunno. If Dee reads this, post when you've sent the motor. lol. I wait....

Yeah Sean, you and Ben now have something in common in the fact that both your motors started their lives as CA18DE engines;) .

I KNOW I could do it in a weekend. It only took me 4 days when I did mine, and that was the first time!

Since I was interrupted about 10,000 times, it took in 1.5 days. But actual wrench time was around 6 hours and most of the time was spent baby-sitting the pistons by cleaning the grooves and installing them delicately (I hate this part). Other than that, it wasn't too bad seeing that I've been down this road on other nissan motors. He will love this motor......

Be easy young grasshopper for this week will be your week to have install your precious motor. When I got finished with it, people would come into the shop and stare at it for minutes. They call you lucky Ben! No one around here has even attempted to rebuild. Sean has been there, but here in Miami (so far), I got the CA on lock. The thing is 93% new and you paid regular price for a JDM motorset. You are lucky, but I will never do that again at that price for anyone else.

Oh yea, I had a question. Dee, you said sae50 valvoline oil. I was wondering, this past year, I had a 20w 50 in my KA,. and I couldn't start my car, the oil was too cold. Will I have this problem?

In the summer months or warmer months use the sae 50 or the syntec blend that I use and in the winter months continue to use the Lucas oil stabilizer, but come down to a 10w40 syntec blend.

hell yea! castrol owns. my engine started and ran fine with no abnormal noises whatsoever yesterday morning. i will NEVER get any other engine. this one is so freaking awesome, i have been left speechless. not that im not going to rebuild it, it has definately earned it, but it is just immortal.

by the way, i got to ride in a 240sx with a rb20det in it this weekend when i went over to jarco with C. it was absolutely rediculous. i have never been so scared in my whole life. that engine has some serious kick. i reccomend jarco, the guys there are awesome.

to quote C, "it was like disneyland but you didnt have to wait to get on te rides"

Yea, so I was in napa buying oil, an oil filter, and coolent, and a guy coems up to me, and asks me if it was my 240 in the parking lot? I said yea. Then he proceds to ask me If I have a swap. I said, in a couple days, the CA18 goes in. He goes, whats a CA18? I said in a nutsheel, a little smaller, different powerband, etc, etc... Then he procedse to blow me off, and try to sell me a sr clip for $2500. I was like, whatever, and I was thinking, did you not hear a word I said. So I said no, and he was like ok, and left. My first encounter with someone trying to sell me an SR. loldidn't even know of the CA18

I don't even bother try to tell people about it. I just smile. Somebody saw my intercooler and asked if I had an SR, I said "No". And smiled. Then he got excited and said, "You've got an RB!?!?" I said "No", and kept smiling. Then he said, "OH! So you turbo'ed the stock motor?". I said "Nope. Do some more research and get back to me". Then I turned and walked away. He looked SOOOOO dumbfounded, it was great. I got in my car and just laughed my arse off for a good 5 min.
