I've never seen a more perfectly cross-hatched engine after being used. This one you must bow down to for perfectness.

Freshly re-ringed low mileage DET pistons. The piston and ring fit was probably better than factory; meaning it's a tight fit which will give you great oil control and compression. We all like it tight don't we boys;) .

that's niiiice. I'm SERIOUSLY considering putting some DE piston's in my DET when I put the new rings in. Something about a high compression turbo motor gets me itchin. And I figure for the HP goals that I have, it's a good idea. So you got any DE piston's laying around Dee? Hehehe

that engine looks really nice man, i know youll enjoy it immensely.

i dont know what mine will look like when i pull it apart this weekend, im a little scared of what i might find. on the other hand, ive been driving it and it doesnt seem like there is anything wrong! the only thing that tips you off that it ran out of oil is that the turbo sort of whines now since the thrust bearings are a little bit "tired". ill be sure to let you guys know what i find this weekend.

man, that engine looks better every time i see it, im so freaking jealous its sickening. itll almost certainly make more power stock than mine did on 10psi and a tuned ecu (151hp/164tq, which is horrible). ill bet you could eat your dinner off the inside of the oil pan and it would just make the food cleaner. mine would probably taste of coolant....sigh...anyway, good luck, not that youll need it with that pinnacle of CA-dom you call an engine.

Ok, heres the plan. get the KA out Thursday, clean the engie bay, fix the rust, and paint the engien bay. Let it sit overnight, and install CA Friday. Should be nice. Anyone think it would be worth it to urethane the engine mounts? I figue, I might as well do it with the engine out of the car.

ok, first question. What points did you use to lift the engines, the KA out, and the CA in? I'm not sure where are point strong enough not to rip off the engine. lol. Which would be bad

i had a ka-e so i cant help you on removal, but hey, if its being replaced you can just wrap chains around anything that wont break until the engine/transmission are clear of the car. not like youll care much with that gem of an engine going in!

getting the CA in the car i had a chain around the transmission, to keep it balanced (i replaced this chain with a friend holding it up when it went in the car though, as it would have been a real pain to get the chain off again whe it was bolted in) and i wrapped a chain through the intake manifold runners and up around the top of the manifold, and the 3rd chain was attached to the little gold intercooler hot pipe mounting bracket thingy right behind the timing cover. its one hell of a sturdy little bracket.

yea, that sounds good for the CA. I am selling the KA, though, so I don't want to damage it.;)

I used the bracked by the right side valve cover twords the front that r34gtr is talking about, and then I used the black intake brace that is below the intake mani. Basically did what Tim did.

yea, pain in the rear. I did it by myself, though, which is probably part of it. Just waiting for the CA.

Ok, another question. How do you guys get seized exhaust bolts out? I can't get the Ka's downpipe and echaust manifold off for anything. I removed the manifold from the head to get the engine out, but now can't get the stuff off from the exhaust system. I wish I was putting in a Blitz Nur-Spec with a test pipe now....

Impact tools. I had a nightmare of a time on my seized bolts back when I put the Hotshot header and randomtech cat and HKS Sport exhaust on my KA24E..

I had to use like multiple extensions w/ a U joint to get at it, and I had cheap ebay tools so only like 230ft-lbs, which meant lots of impacting, lots of spraying liquid wrench, lots of cursing..

My new impact wrench is rated for 350 (woo! took that CA crank bolt out w/ just the 75psi of pressure in the tank, and only dropped the pressure 5psi in the process (it took a few hits, ~1 second)!), more is better!

I think the heads of the bolts are tounded now, though. I will try the Impact wrench though, didn't think of that.

Yea, I think I am at the cut them off level. I'm gonna try to drill through the bolts, and then put a bolt and nut through the hole. I got one bolt out, but all the rest, the head stripped.

Yea I had to cut the bolts off when installing my exhaust, it was a pain, if the heads are stripped you could try hammering a socket that is 1size smaller on, that may work, if you can get the socket on either use an impact or if that is not available use a breaker bar, and a long cheater pipe, you may be able to get them off.

yea, might try that. The problem is, I need to be able to use this exhaust system after I get it apart. So, I can't just sawzall the thing apart, as I would like.

just cut the bolts off in between exhaust flange an cat flange, that way no damage is done to either just buy new bolts and nuts.

Go to Advanced Auto and get some stuff called PB Blaster. It is THE BEST penitrating lubricant I've ever used. The stuff is amazing. I'm completely sold on it. Can be hard to find sometimes, but it's also made in the USA, so that's a bonus too!

Check it out and let us know. For it to really work you need to soak it, beat on it. Soak it again, and then let it sit for 20 min or so.
