I understand there are Rogues in the States that come with HID lights from the factory, but i dunno if i will be able to get a hold of the housing for the light so im looking into other options. Im looking into HID Projectors because i heard they do not produce glare unlike the HID conversion kits that reflect in ur halogen housing. Has anyone converted to Projectors or is it even possible? I understand it is more expensive but it's better than getting a ticket for illegal HID kits. if someone could help me out, that would be great!

Also i live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and i dunno what the laws are like on HID kits. And if there are any reputable mechanics in Toronto who is able to install the HID projector or the housing itself, i would like to know. thanks in advanced.

leo has done a projector mod zerothread/351086

BUT im pretty sure u will still get a ticket for modifiying the headlight etc...

and it is illegal to put hid kits in a regular halogen housing

there has been a great discussion on HID kits (plug and play) on several threads in this forum please visit the FAQ section at the top for more info

here is one zerothread/343711

I took a look at the post and it's not really what i wanted to get.. hes got LED Projection but im looking into HID projection, what they have in BMW, Lexus, Acura, etc..

http://www.rsi-hid.com/product_p/rsiprojretro.htm

These are the examples of what im looking for.. im just wondering if anyone has put this into the car or if anyone know where i can get these and installed in Toronto. These are legal because they don't cause glare, unlike the plug and play kits that are put in halogen housings.

im just looking for legit HID lights that are legal for my car.. and i would ideally get someone to install it for me..

First of all: Don't buy that kit, it is really bad quality, and if you want to move to more output, it is definitively not the way to do (BTW, you can find the same thing for way cheaper on Ebay).

The only way to get HID legal on a Rogue would be to change the headlight to the HID housings from the Rogue, and it is very expensive.Doesn't mean that you won't have glare, but it will be limited.

Now, the non legal solutions:

- Buy a HID PnP kit and install it in place of the halogen bulbs: You will have more glare but if you aim them lower, you should not have any problem.

- Buy the ugly kit you refer in your post which is supposed to be PnP. In fact, you will still have to open your headlight by heat (Oven or heatgun) to install it inside. From the work involved, it is better to move to the next solution.

- Retrofit your headlight to install a projector from another car in your housing. It involves some work as you have to find a way to fix it in the housing, hide the projector by installing shroud and bezel on it, aim it correctly (the hardest part), and close it to keep it waterproof. By using projectors from other cars (the best ones are those from Lexus, Infiniti and Acura), you will get the best output possible, and if you work them a bit (change the lens to a clear one, change the shield to a homemade curved one), you will get the best output out there. This solution is quite expensive (about 300-400$ of parts, plus about 200-300$ in labour if you make it done) and quite time consuming if you do it yourself, but it is the best one.Leo did it with Q45 projectors (impressive work and unique look) and he is working on another one I think. I am working on my own, with either FX35 or G37 projectors.

All the above solutions are not legal (even the kit you listed) but policemen have other things to do (did you see how cars have PnP HID kits now?) and we will give you a ticket only if they arrest you for something else (and only if they care).

My opinion is to do like everybody else is doing, buy a PnP HID kit and call it a day if you want to move to HID.

If you want to move in the retrofit world... then welcome and I have an extra pair of projectors and ballasts than I can sell to you I hope to soon show you what I have done so far to retrofit the Rogue headlights.

Pardon my ignorance, but why do I need a converter kit? Can't I just replace the bulb? For example, Amazon has this: H11 6000K HID Xenon Bulb (1 Pair, Diamond White) for $29.99.

Thanks,Robert

An HID light source is basically a very high intensity electrical arc. You need a very high voltage to produce this arc... usually from a ballast. Without it, the bulb will not work.

Many of the HID light kits you see contain the bulbs, ballasts and the necessary wiring to connect it all together.

I see. Thanks. What about just replacing the halogen bulb with a brighter halogen bulb? It wouldn't be as bright as an HID, but it would be better, yes?

You could replace with many of the so called 'ultra bright' halogen bulbs. ie GE Nighthawk, Sylvania XtraVision, etc. Usually the bulbs run hotter (read brighter) so their lifespan is greatly reduced. I have used them and have to replace burned out bulbs yearly. IMHO, this is a cheap (and legal) upgrade that has some benefits in terms of producing more light. The bulbs are not very expensive either.

The so called HID look a-likes ie. Sylvania Silverstar, many PIAA bulbs, etc are nothing more than halogen bulbs with a blue filter. Visually they appear brighter and look like HID... but by filtering out the yellow components the bulbs are actually producing less usable light than a typical halogen. They might look nice, but don't do anything in terms of illumination... in fact they are worse.
