1: Will this operate the same as an SCCA event where you will go through tech inspection and then to a driver's safety meeting before being allowed on the track, especially for the auto-x events?
2: Do you know any of the track specifics? IE; length, shape, material (concrete, asphalt, tar)?
3: In the event of rain (lets cross our fingers for a beuitful sunny weekend) will the events be cancelled or tech requirements for tires change?
4: This is a stupid question, but do the helmets have to be the face variety or will open face work? Also really stupid question... I don't know anything about helmets but will motorcycle helmets work or do we have to get one strictly for auto racing?
All good questions:
1. It's going to be less formal than SCCA Solo II. There are not going to be a bunch of separate classes. There won't be restrictions on the number of runs you make, you can bring pretty much whatever kind of car you want, modded or stock. It just has to pass tech. And The tech folks will be checking for safety, not mods.
Yes, you will go thru tech first before registering. The only exception is if you're sharing another person's car and their car has already passed tech.Once I get the schedule for operation from Carlisle, we will have both a drivers meeting and corner worker/volunteer meeting before the track goes green. I'll post the meeting times and the track schedule as the event draws closer. I'd also recommend getting there early enough to do a track walk, and to give yourself time to unpack.
2. Unfortunately I have no specifics on the course yet , other than that is a permanent course, not a parking lot cone course, and there is supposed to be ample runoff room. I don't know the pavement material or how wide it is,. The one autocrosser I spoke to said it was a "fun" course.
3. Unless I'm told otherwise, it's goes on rain or shine. For the drifters, a wet track would be easier on the tires. And for autocross, wet is the great equalizer. If you're running street tires, you should have no problem.I intend to brng my canopy (red 8x8) which fits in my car, plus a tarp to keep thingsdry if rain is in the forecasts.
4. There are many types of helmets both open face and full face, with and without face shields, and in all price ranges. For this event, it really doesn't matter what type of helmet you bring just as long its safety rating meets or exceds requirements (SA 95 or M95) and that it's not cracked. M95 is a Motorcyle helmet. If you intend to do more autocrossing or HPDE, I'd recommend getting an SA helmet. As a coincidence, I just got my new helmet in the mail today, My old SA95 is expiring for the Audi track events I do. I bought a a Bell M4 Pro (SA2005) full face with a visor. Racer Wholesale is where I ordered it from.www. racerwholesale.com.
I hope that helps.
I'm looking forward to it too.
