Really? It's actually available at Wal Mart where I am. :) I skipped over it, but I might pick some up based on my fellow Saluki's recommendation. Given the time of year it is I'm looking for a decent pumpkin ale.

Most pumpkin ales suck, because they use allspice in their recipe. WTF is a pie ingredient doing in a beer?

Anyway, I discovered Shock Top the other day. Cheap, doesn't need fruit in it (what's up with the fools I see drinking it with an orange slice) and it has a good flavor. Man does the hangover suck from it, tho...

That's God thumping you on the noggin telling you not to drink cheap beer. You're better off drinking Sam Adams White (or even Blue Moon) than that crap. If you want a proper witbier brewed in the US go get some Allagash White.

What I'm drinking tonight...

I wouldn't consider Shock Top to be a witbier, who would?

Two of my absolute favorites:

The Leine's I can actually get out here, just polished off a couple sixers this week.

This I haven't seen since I worked in Wisconsin. Awesome state.

Well, the company for one.
Shock Top Website wrote:At Shock Top Brewing Company we shake up traditional tastes with Shock Top Belgian White, a spiced Belgian-style wheat ale (“wit”) brewed with real orange, lemon and lime peels.
Beer aficionados would consider it a wit too - top fermented, unfiltered wheat beer with coriander and orange.

Shock Top sucks. I'd rather drink a Blue Moon over it, which also sucks.
Ommegang's Wit (see page 2) is the best I've had, followed by Allagash. I've tried a bunch...I'm wondering if Great Divide has one now, as I'm sure it would be delicious.

Well, it doesn't taste like any other wheat beer I've had before (and I've had quite a few!, believe it or not...), I never saw the label so I'd have to plead ignorance on all that stuff. Maybe I let on like I was giving it major praise or something? Sorry to mislead ya.

Has anyone tried the new Guinness Black Lager? I haven't heard very good things, but I want some opinions on here if anyone's got 'em.

It's late for this because most of them are gone from my local beer store BUT this was THE best Pumpkin beer I found:

Image

I tried a lot of them and this one was had the best flavor without being overly spicy or bland. It also had just the right amount of sweetness.

I'm currently drinking some of this:

Image

Very nice. I'm a big fan of oak and other wood aged beers.

A must try if you like Arrogant Bastard is this:

Image

It mellows the Bastard a bit but it is so amazing.

I've been making my own lately too and LOVE it. I'm on my third batch, which will be a Dry-hopped IPA. Can't wait!!

It can't be any worse than McSorley's Black Lager, can it? :gotme

I am a big fan of McSorley's, and from things I've read online, it's far superior.

Not everything from NJ can classify as armpit...

Image

Absolutely DELICIOUS. I dont know if its because they brew with the same water I drink everyday or because it just f*** rules, but this is good stuff. Very small operation but they have GREAT libations. They even have a "Breakfast Beer", which obviously goes best with a hangover...and breakfast...in the morning. Another cool thing about them is their Thursdays. You can enter their facility, tour the brewery, and then buy cases at wholesale.

Now lets look at a picture of my old lady, because Ive clearly had more than a couple drinks.

Blackthorn medium dry cider

Image

Despite the nitro style can there's no widget in it, in fact the cider is nearly flat. Clear blonde little sharp, not sweet at all with no real character - can't recommend.

After I finish the 4 pack I just bought I won't try drink it again, maybe if I found it on draught - but that's it. Anyone got a decent recipe that uses cider?

Hands down, that was THE best pumpkin this year. I was lucky enough to get a preview of it at the brewery before it was released. If you thought it was good in the bottle, its 1345643x better on draft! :naughty:

THREAD IS BACK FROM THE DEAD

So, tonight I'm trying something new...Samuel Smith's Organic Cherry Ale

Image

Very cherry tasting with slight bitters and a wine/vinegar taste. Ale flavor is almost an after taste. Not bad but not something I would put on my "gotta have" list. Was worth the try.

The other night I tried Pyramid Apricot Ale which is a flavored wheat beer:

Image

I actually bought a 6-pack of this one and was not too sure of it being apricot flavored as apricot is not my favorite fruit. The first taste gave me a double take...no, a quadruple double take. Heck, I was quite surprised!!! The look and feel is a regular wheat beer but with a slight fruit taste. After the swallow there is almost a distinct rose "smell" that hits the back end of your sinus. It's not like you smell roses but the effect is quite similar. My wife tried it and said it was like walking into a room in which a floral spray had just been used as that's the kind of "back of the sinus" smell you initially get.

I found it quite an entertaining beer and would try again :dblthumb:

Chilled? Or frosted? Most aficiandos would say neither is acceptable as it affects taste.

Love me some Monkey though!

I don't mind Shocktop...competes with Blue Moon from a base wheat beer perspective. I thought Lemon Shandy was quite good. They have just released a seasonal Pumpkin Wheat that I will be trying sooner or later.

Have you tried that Apricot Ale? Wondering if you had the same "floral" sensation.

I also dont mind shock top. Read previous posters' dislike it.
Yes sir. It does deliver quite a good feeling in the sinuses.
Be warned though. I was quick to try it before it was COLD and the sensation youre describing feels like vomit when warm :tisk:
If you enjoyed it i recommend You try Wells Banana Bread Beer.

I believe I posted that beer on a prior page. I drank a 6 of it and it was not bad. I prefer more citrus/wheat flavor than something like the Banana.

I have about 10 different wheat/Hefe style beers sitting in the fridge to try out and I'll post up as I do it. All are individuals and not 6-packs tho and most are European.
