That way i can get the parts that I want to get and also time by time. Also swap in the 5speed at that time also.
That plan sounds good, just do your research so that it stays reliable.

Yea, i think KA-T is the best way to go. Get the torque, prolly spend 1/2 the money. The only thing i need some help on is what i should replace on the stock KA to be able to handle the Turbo.

That's where the other 1/2 of the money that u save comes in lol. You'll wanna get a thicker head gasket (a metal one would be good), injectors, lower compression pistons, forged rods, strengthend valve train, head studs, fuel pump, and of course all the stuff for the turbo itself. It probably wouldn't hurt to get an oil cooler while you're at it. IDK if that's everything but that should get you started in a positive direction.

I actually abandoned the idea of the KA-T because it just looked like a really expensive endeavor once you add up everything you need to make it handle the turbo, plus the cost of the turbo itself, when the SR is already turbo-ready plus it has a turbo! I may be wrong but I just don't think you can get the kind of horsepower out of a ka-t reliably that you can get with an SR.

On the other hand, the tophat motor is essentially a NEW motor, which is nice, and you can't get a new SR, so that's one thing it has going for it. I guess you're going to spend money either way, so at least this way you can spend it more gradually.

The only thing that I think would make this an economical choice would be to do no modification to the motor, do a junkyard turbo swap and turn the boost low enough to not blow the motor.

but I will have one for sale if you want it.

See the reason i think its alot easier is i dont know what all i need to do to get the SR ready and put in. i.e Harness, what drive shaft to use (ka?). Maybe you can help me with it all James. That would be really cool. Anyways im working 3rd shift tonight 11pm-7am so i'll talk to you guys later.

driveshaft is the same, engine mounts are the same, only thing different is wiring. But I will definitely be able to tell you everything you need to know once my car is running with the SR in it. I like it because it was designed from the start for boost. With the ka, you have to design it to work, and I think that's scary to me considering how little I already know about turbocharging. have fun at work man.

ka-t vs. sr will always be an ongoing debate imo. Everyone has their reasons for going either way and therefore there is no right or wrong choice. In the end, it comes down to personal preference and just how far you're willing to go. ClubSx, what are your long term goals for this project? IF you just want a boosted 240 to drive around, I'm sure the ka-t would suffice with a few mods and 10-12 psi. If you want a car primarily for the track, then maybe the sr would be more cost effective in the long run. The reason I say that is because unless you have some inside connects @ Nissan, there's really no way to put a motor together for boost the way that the manufacturer does. It would really suck to put $1000+ into a motor and then blow it up because of high boost. It's true that it can happen to any motor with improper tuning, but if you have a solid foundation to start with then it may be less likely.

We'll i want something i can work with. Prolly once i have it boosted keep getting more and more aftermarket, stronger parts. I'd like this project (atleast by me being out of college) to have well over 300whp.

As I always say, do your research. Don't just slap a bin of parts together and expect your motor to last. Inquire to companies like Top Hat to try to get some more info about how to make your motor more reliable. Sure all of us Niconauts are here to help, but you'll get your best source of info from the experts that do it all the time. Devise a strategy of how to tailor their approaches, as compared to the size of your budget. 300 rwhp is not an unrealistic request. That's just my $.02.

Thanks guys, and you don't have to worry about me going overboard, I had a bad experiance with cheap vodka and a fat chick, (don't ask) so I no longer drink to the point that I don't know whats going on.

I also got that beer from my brother. (free beer rocks!!!)

Congrats on finaly getting your car gr8bryt.
