Hi all. New Maxima owner, just found your site. Maxima's are a bit of a rarity here in UK so expecting a few problems with finding spares. Also will probably be coming back asking advice so expect a few "Help" posts from me.

Hey everyone,

Light tan metallic? Not sure on the official color, it could use a new paint job anyway.

I have been rummaging through the forums for over a month now and decided to finally register. I was looking at buying my maxima from a consingment dealer. i did all my research here. glad I did. I knew what I was getting into with the O2 sensors, the MAF, and coils. I got a deal on this for $4500. This car did not seem to have any of these problems when I bought it. Only things that didnt work were the turn signals/hazards, and all 3 passenger windows can go down but not up. Under the hood is beautiful, its clean, no leaks, pings, or rattles. First day I had it, I was driving around, and after about 15 miles, with a few engine starts in between, all of a sudden I lost acceleration. CAr wouldnt go faster than about 18mph. Tach goes up to about 3, I probably could take the tach higher if I wanted to, but I dont want to burn anything up. If I let the car sit for awhile (an hour or so) it will drive fine. Im not certain if that is a MAF issue or a ICV issue. Anyway, I took it took a guy I know who is a service manager at a local shop, he cant get the ECU to communicate using the data link. Im about ready to just say **** it and replace it all. Any suggestions on which I should tackle first?? I think the ECU. But it cost about 1200 at a dealer, or I can gamble with doing it myself for about $300. It could end up fixing all the other issues correct?

i just purchased this vehicle a few days ago. i bought it knowing full well it was not arriving to me in perfect condition. here is what i know so far:
the owner had an electrical "kill switch" installed and i had no idea why.
my speedo is going haywire, and there is a buzzing coming from behind the engine, like low underneath(starter solenoid?) i didnt notice the buzzing until my battery died over night. i opened the hood to get a jump and heard this loud buzzing, i need a connector schematic so i can see what components are back there.
i put a newly charged battery as a bandaid and i am suspicious of the alternator. it looked like it had never been touched. car has like 209,000 miles on it. compression test was great so i am staying a positive thinker.
i have been scouring this forum site and saw some VERY interesting topics about the fuel injectors and how to check the codes from the ECM. i am eager to get started and would like my car to just stay on at this point, i can stay on the bus until then. any help would be appreciated.

hello to all.
i have a question and a few diagnostic issues that i need help with please.

Question: How can i find out if she has california or federal emissions?

i took her to auto zone for a scan and the following trouble diagnosis codes came up.

P0150: air fuel ratio sensor 1 circuit- bank 2
P0304: #4 cylinder misfire detected
P1400: EGRC solenoid valve

i would really appreciate any suggestions, advice, and/or guidance provided. i am interested in D-I-Y repairs if at all possible. thank you

No pictures yet, but here's what I have:

1997 Infiniti I30
Dark green paint
Tan leather interior
Chrome trim
Automatic transmission

~170,000 miles

It had ~65,000 miles on it when I got it about eight years ago. I have kept it in good running condition, but the interior is starting to fall apart. It has driven across the United States twice. There are a few little dings and paint marks on the exterior, but other than that, it is a great car and I have enjoyed all of the miles I have put on it!
