Welcome to NICO.

There are a few things you can do to up the HP. You can go a multitude of ways with it. You can start with an intake and move on to exhaust to start. For exhaust, I'd suggest going with headers when you do get an exhaust becasue on that generation I30, they started putting the pre-cats in the header instead of in the y-pipe as in previous generations. That should get you headed in the right direction.

I am an older guy, original owner of a 2001 Maxima SE, manual transmission, which is running quite well with almost 100K on the odo. Mr. Max is gray w black interior. Not much done to jazz it up: K& N Filter Charger element, Cattman Cat-Back exhaust, projector headlights, little else. Will be looking for possible assistance for such things as 17" wheels (for snows), front tower strut bar, alternative plugs - yes I'm about to change them, cosmetic stuff, etc.

Had an Infiniti G20 which was part of a 40 vehicle pile-up on I-93 in NH back in '98. Near the front of the parade, I made contact (serious contact) with a van, a pickup and a semi. G20 was demolished, I got out via JoL. Hospitalized for a while, have had some follow on problems, but I'm pretty normal despite the event.

I bought a 98 Maxima, as I was so impressed with the solidarity of the G20. Then moved into my current vehicle, which I like just fine.

Look forward to participating and benefiting from expertise of members.

Whatz going on fellas? April 4 th made one year since i have my car, I have a 2006 nissan maxima se fully loaded, and so far i have been keeping up with regular only changes every 3000 miles, i had two blow outs, cause of the crazy pot holes queens got, right now whenever i hit 45 and above my steering wheel vibrates, the last time i had that problem i took it to get speed balance and when the guy checked my wheels it turned out that all of my rims is bent, and that is going to cost me money to get it straighten out, but he did the best he could and the problem went away until i had the second blow out, the vibration problem came back, so i'm guessing that the best thing to do is to go get the wheels fixed, the problem is before i had went to to the shop to get it speed balance i went to the dealership maintenance center to ask their opinion, he old me that the reason why i am getting vibration is because when i did the last brake change change i didn't sand my rotors, which at the time they were charging me $250 dollars for the break pads and the service, and the mechanic said that on top of that he will balance my wheel for free, my uncle told me that the guy is just full of ****, then lately i spoke to another mechanic about the whole rotors sanding situation, and he told me that by sanding my rotors i will thin them out and cause them to over heat, that it is just best to use em like that until i feel vibration from the brake peddle whenever i stop then i should just think about replacing them, it would be better that way, and he said besides the car is still brand new and i won't have worry about that for now. My most recent problem with the car that is really bother me right now is whenever I accelerate, i hear a wheezing/whistling sound coming from the engine and sometime i get a ticking sound from the left side of the car, the last time i went for an oil change the dealership told me that i need to get my cabin and air filter changed and also i need to flush the engine, clean my fuel injectors, and get throttle service and all of that adds up to about $500, the previous mechanic i spoke to i asked him about this, and he told me that i should not get my engine flushed that it will screw my motor up and possibly have some loss of power. I was really thinking about changing the filters, cause my car currently have 16000 miles. If any one can share some opinion please, i need to know whats going on with my car, it bothering me a lot , feels a thought if i continue driving it as how it is i would only make matters worst. PLEASE RESPOND. thanks for taking the time to read this guys.

hello everyone, not so sure what to say... so i'll just say whats wrong with my car... balance perhaps?

i have a 97 nissan maxima gxe. i've been rough on her, been in 2 accidents, one involved a 30mph speed, a 3ft drop into a culvert, and deployed air bags... this was before the car was mine, evidently things were fixed?.. not so sure..

then after that, i was going a little quick down a gravel road, intenionally fishtailing, when "while sideways" i hit a hefty pot hole causeing some oversteering and me to end up facing a ditch, hitting a mailbox, flipping around backwards and ending up backing up someones driveway.

no real dammage, bent fender from the mail box. and "maybe?" misalligned, unbalanced tires...

all i know is that now, at about... 60, 70ish, the front end gets a little shakey.. not lateral but up and down...

i also both exhaust brackets, the one by the cat. converter, and the one near the back, behind the main muffler... the pipe sat down on a bracket going across the ... not sure what to call it, the underside of the center console?.. but anyhoo, it was creaking and annoying me. so, i rigged things up, no more creaking, though the piping is dented a good halfway through, where it was sitting on the bracket... guessing i should buy a whole new get up...

so that about summs up my cosmetic problems, now on the side of wanting to make my car have-a more go-go. i was considering, after buying all new piping, maybe headers, considering prices "would like some reasonable suggestions" i would like to buy myself a cold air intake, also would like some brand name suggestions.... maybe, after a while, buy myself a nifty performance harmonic balancer pully.. though, i was curious, if i were to buy a new pully would i need a new serpentine belt?

just a few questions, and suggestion requests..

thanks in advance for the help.

Better late than never. I'm Keith from Tennessee. I have a 98 GXE. It's bone stock. I've posted a couple of questions posts about my car regarding a cooling issue and a brake issue.

Beancooker and Maxhopper were very helpful. Oh, BTW it was my thermostat that made my fans run all the time. I swapped it out flushed and refilled with prestone 50/50 mix and everything has been all good since.

Also, I have just ordered some Powerslot rotors and Hawk pads based off of Beancooker's suggestion.

I have some planned mods. Anyone feel free to make suggestions and comments.

Planned Mods: Powerslot rotors, Hawk pads (ordered already), Tokico Illumina struts, Eibach springs, Injen CAI, Catman catback exhaust, rear swar bar, 17" or 18" wheels and get the ECU reprogrammed.

All the best to my fellow Max owners!!!

Tons of new members lately!

Welcome to NICO and the Maxima forums, everybody! We're glad you found us.

Imissmyz32, I know exactly what you mean. The Z32 was one of the main reasons I became a "Nissan guy" too. It and the R32 Skyline were enough to coax me into the Nissan camp. Oh...my Maxima helped a bit, too.
