Isn't there a guy on here with a 5.0 mustang engine in his 240? I think he had plans of supercharging it.

there's an LS1 S13 coupe sitting in the shop next to my LT1 beast...

It can be done, it has been done (about 15 times now).

If someone has specific questions I'll be happy to answer them.

How's handling? How's traction? Room for a procharger? What custom parts? (Mounts, Driveshaft, etc...)Hows the electrical? (HVAC, Speedo/Tach, etc...)How much $$$ would you estimate for turn key?

Does your shop plan on releasing kits/packages for this?

for wiring, get a painless harness with the VATS eliminator kit.as for mounts and such, custom is the only way.

the more custom work you do on the car, the better it will fit in, and the more stock the car will look. My car was featured on Car and Model a while back where the main thing was how stock and clean the exterior was while hiding a monster LT1 inside with 2 nitrous kits, heads and cam.

I kept the KA harness to run the radio, headlights, and stock fuel gauge. Now though, as the car is all go and NO show, all of those little extras have been eliminated.

Great, but it does push quite a bit under heavy acceleration through a corner.
mrflip69 wrote:How's traction?
unbelieable. 1.4X 60's on a Nissan rear end.
mrflip69 wrote:Room for a procharger?
Plenty. I got the hair dryer in there
mrflip69 wrote:What custom parts? (Mounts, Driveshaft, etc...)
Mounts, Wiring, Oil Pan, Driveshaft, and more.
mrflip69 wrote:Hows the electrical? (HVAC, Speedo/Tach, etc...)
I have no emissions. Do have an Autometer speedo, and Tach though. The factory speedo and tach will not work with the V8 equipment because of the pulse difference in the sensors. (The stock tach will work with the LS1 as the LS1 uses a 4 cylinder tach output signal)
mrflip69 wrote:How much $$$ would you estimate for turn key?
$15,000. If you had the body, then the price for the basic setup is $6000 (Wiring, Heads, cam, boltons, custom mounts/driveshaft, and install)
mrflip69 wrote:Does your shop plan on releasing kits/packages for this?
No. I sold 1 set of mounts to a friend in Florida, and he screwed up his placement of them in the engine bay. When he went to drop in the motor he realized his problem as the carbed 355 he was using hit the firewall before getting near the mounts. I ended up bringing the car to Houston and correcting the problem along with finishing his install. It is simply easier to let someone do the fabrication and install that has experience with it.

Quick OT, if I may be forgiven.

Good thought. Let me take that to extremes. How about a 240SX with a small jet turbine in it directly connected to a large generator feeding power to 4 seperate electric motors Now THAT's a custom job.

Seriously, good luck with the V8. Personally, before I do anything with my 240SX I am going to bring it back to stock as close as possible. Remove the custom wiring I have found, replace broken plastic pieces, fix electrical parts that currently don't work, etc. Then when it's a nice clean slate, then tinker with it under the hood.

question for aries......when you built this car what were you planning to do with it?

street car? drag? drift?

jsut curious cause alot of people belive that it would horrialby upset the cars balance....i don't see how an extra 100 or so pounds could be so detrimental to the cars handeling.....of course your gonna have alot more power down low...but you jsut gotta deal right?

the car was originally built to be a street racing sleeper. Once word got out though, no one wanted much to do with racing any maroon 240 in texas.

From various postings on the web and magazine articles and such...so take this with a grain of salt.

The KA24DE weighs 540 pounds with transmission. The RB25DET weighs 720 pounds with transmission.

Your crate engine weighs 390 pounds. How much does the transmission weigh? How much farther forward, if any, will the front of the V8 be than the KA?

Just wondering about how handling and steering feel would be affected, personal feelings about such a swap aside.

Dayum, what is it with you people? Can't figure out what you want? Maybe it's just me, but I'm so friggin' tired of watching people shove small block Chevy's into anything but what they came in to begin with. I'm quite sure there are better ways to spend your money if you want to do a swap. Think to yourself, you're at a car show and walk up to a car to look under the hood, what is more impressive, seeing another car that someone dropped a Chevy smallblock into, or seeing an engine compartment done right with your favorite Nissan motor swap Believe it or not, dude, this type of thinking ranks right up there with all the kids who got an muffler, spoiler, and a paint job and called themselves the "Fast & Furious". Besides, I give much kudos to those who stick to it and finish the job, but something tells me there's a bull nearby and this will wind up like many others I've seen, sitting in the garage for years being talked about but never finished, or sold as a box of parts to someone else who "says" they're gonna finish it. Sorry bud, just my opinion for what it's worth, but I give a big thumbs down to doing "another generic Chevy swap" Impress me with that HP out of a motor at least built by the same manufacturuer as the car.

"Let's be like everyone else? Put a 350 in it!"

*shakes his head and wonders why some just never get it*
