No renting tools... I got all air wrenches and a buddy has a spring compressor... IF it' not too tough we will knock it out.

Will I have to drill anything? Thats about all that makes me nervous.

Me personally as far as the body goes if you don't want a kit look online or in a junkyard for the front lip spoiler and a set of mud flaps. Classic old skool styling, and if it gets messed up it isn't too costly to rplace. Also the fron lip is quite durable. Much love for the pig nose 240sx. This 240 has the lip. It looks a bit rough but it was the best I could find real quick. Mud gaurds are self explanitory I suppose. http://www.cardomain.com/membe...240SX

You shouldn't have to drill anything. If you have access to air tools it will be sooo simple.

I recently replaced the motor and transmission mounts...It wasn't too hard... Do I need an alignment kit?

Eibach / KYB--- set up--- 2"drop

Installing the springs/shocks shouldn't be a problem. If you're going to do a lot of work on this car, you might benefit from either a Factory Service Manual (the real deal...$73, but has all the info you'll ever need) or a Chiltons/Haynes manual (less info, much cheaper).

You at least want the torque specs. It will be *very* easy to over-torque stuff if you're not careful. I wouldn't use air tools on the piston rod nut either...maybe just being paranoid, but still would use hand tools.

I just ordered some parts to get ready to install some new front struts...

***The 3 nuts at the strut tower and the two at the knuckle shouldn't be re-used (even though many people do it anyway). You can get them from your Nissan dealer. I'm replacing all bolts too since they are very corroded after many NE winters.

Edit: There's absolutely no drilling involved in the install.

These?

I think they look good. I tried to photoshop them on a 240sx but it looked crappy. Maybe somebody with better photoshop skills can do it.

Repaint the wipers!! and replace the glove box door cloth fabric with leather that matches the dash. Also make sure the sidemarker lights are working b/c i didnt notice all of mines were burnt out until i actually went outside to check. If the seals and gaskets around the sunroof and doors are getting too old and cracking, replace those too. last thing, if the hatch is really hard to lift, replace the shocks.

I like the sounds of the motor mods. My son is still just really learning the car a bit... not ready for a real powerful motor.

As for your dad just being the wallet---At least he is helping you... Try this, when you want to show your dad how kick a$$ your stereo sounds.... Play his music... not yours... he will show a lot more interest. Send some pics so we can watch you build out the car

Thought some of you might like an update... on the project.

After much consideration I bagged the "suprise I fixed up your car idea" and opted to turn this into a father son project.

We had a few set backs that delayed some progress but we are getting back on track. The project teaching us both a few things cars.. I am relearning a few things and Alex is under the hood for the first time ever... he is really enjoying it.

OK we had a long setback trying to get the car smoged...finally got it done. Trouble is I let Grand Dad ( My dad ) take the car to get the cert. He decides the car needs a new exhaust and goes to a muffler shop for a $500 rip off...Think B-210 one small chrome tip looks like crap... He was really thinking he was hooking the up so we didn't have the heart to tell him the muffler is going in the trash... It actually all sounds suprisingly good... just looks bad. So we have to wait few months before we swap it with N1 dual exhaust that has been recomended.

So today we received new tires and wheels! I cut out of work early so we could mount em' up. After reading all the input I decided to get a good quality wheel... We picked the Volk AV3 17" wrapped in Yokahama tires.

The tires really fill the wheel well nice. and the low profile tires really look sharp.

I want to get the suspension in the next few days. I still want to do the Eibach / KYB set up that was recomended. Can someone tell me if this will still fit given the wheels that we picked? Trying to get about 1.5" drop but still a decent ride. Is this going to fit?\

Thanks for all the help

Might i suggest you you add a short throw shifter? i dont know if this was already suggested but i would think it would give the interior and the shifting a little more coolness. I think B&M is good.

You should have no problem with those wheels, and your desired drop.

May I suggest 95-98 240sx seats. They bolt up, look nicer, are much more supportive, and can be had for pretty cheap, making them an easy upgrade.

Another cheap and easy upgrade are strut bars.

I dunno, just some very simple items that can easily be installed yourselves, and are rather inexpensive.

Thanks for the seat tip. We will check it out.

Dumb question: When you say strut bars are you refering to sway bars or something else?

strut bars refer to the strut towers, they bolt on to limit the lateral travel of the struts and help stiffen suspension and reduce body roll, I think

someone wanna correct me if I'm wrong?

Nothing fits in the backseat...maybe infants without car seats?

Strut bars are different from sway bars. They connect the two strut towers in the the engine bay, and in the rear of the car (in the trunk area).

The kid is only 16.... Hopefully it will be 10 years before he has an nifant in the back seat!!!

On the strut tower bar, We replaced the stock motor mounts with NIMO mounts. I read somewhere this raises the hight of the motor so that Bar wont fit. Ever heard anything like that?

yeah, solid rubber mounts for my car actually raise the motor 3/16 th's I think, you might still be able to use the strut bar though

perhaps you might wanna get some input from some of the chaps in the 240 technical forum as well on this project, I'm sure they'd be helpful

wow... i read the whole front page and then saw this thread is 3 pages long... so i'm sorry if i repeat anything mentioned here... Get EBC Greenstuff brake pads. They are great. Good stopping power, last a long time, and best of all... virtually no brake dust whatsoever! My friend had 'em and i think he might have cleaned his rims once the entire time he owned his car. When it comes to rims, i don't know if anyone mentioned, but sometimes the more expensive rims bend rather easily due to the alloy they're made of. So when buying the rims you might want to keep durability in mind, even if the more durable ones happen to be a little heavier. Another thing that can help prevent damage to the rim when hitting a pothole or other kinds of rough terrain, is a thicker tire. So what i'm trying to say is that low profile tires aren't always the best option. When you graze a curb, the larger sidewalls usually help to protect the lip of your rims from being ruined, i learned that real quick with my car. It also depends on the type of rims you have too. I know someone mentioned a vlsd from a 300zx. That's a good idea because you can usually find them pretty cheap used and you can of course do a 5bolt swap using the rear 300z rear hubs. If you want to look into some cool lighting options which i personally don't think are TOO ricey but i can pretty much gaurantee no one will have anything like it around where you live then check out http://www.clearcorners.com I'm sure i'll get flamed for posting that site but hey, "to each his own", or whatever. Umm... there is a cool indiglo type gauge needle kit from http://www.importintelligence.com I'll probably get flamed for that too... but oh well. I can't think of much else at the moment but that's probably becuase i'm kinda trying to write a paper for my strategies class at the same time but this thread was just too cool to pass up. I'm sure i'll be able to think of something useful at a later time though :D

Thanks for the tip on the greenstuff brake pads. I was actually going to help my son do the brakes this weekend. Where can I get them? Are they noisy at all?

I bought the tires and wheels two days ago... Volk AV3 17" with low profile Yokohama's Put them on last night... What a difference, We think they look great.

We got some graet tips on building the car from this thread, The NICO folks have been great. We will finish the suspension with a 1.5" drop and the post some Pics while we get ready to Paint... We are still looking for the "perfect Silva body Kit..." But things are starting to move along. Best of all both my son and I are having fun hanging out and working on the car
