I am due for an oil change on the 90 Q, and i have a few questions for all y'all who have far more knowledge than i do.

It seems that most of you cats use mobil 1 10-30 and use mobil 1 filters.

did the q come from the factory with full synth, or was it dino oil?if the car came with dino oil, were there any negative effects to changing to full synth? i've heard about oil seals failing, oil leaks developing, etc etc. has anything like this happened?

over at bobistheoilguy.com there are a bunch of guys using "german castrol" o-30... it's like a religon for some of these guys....do any of you guys put that stuff in your q? have you ever tried it?

my plan is to do a BG44K session and then get the oil changed.....i'm thinking mobil 1 10-30 but i've heard alot of good things about "german castrol".... so any advice either way would be *awesome*

ok after reading those threads here's what i got:

1) change the oil every 90 days / 3,000 miles. END OF DISCUSSION

2) everything else is open to debate.

well i'm going to go to wallmart and have them fill me up with "supertech" full syn. and the best filter they have.

i'm guessing you guys don't care for "restore" or "lucas heavy duty blah blah" or any of that stuff eh?

We try to make every car last at least 400,000 miles to wring the full value out of it, then sell the hulk to a junk yard for a few hundred. Then finally put the FSM and manuals on ebay.

Wishy washy lubes and thick additives are not the way to proceed.

Personally, I think you're fine with going to 4-4.5K with a full synthetic if you don't leave it in there too long. Go with either a M1 or Nissan filter. Most of us like Mobil 1 because it's readily available.

yes, i'm running gc 0w30 in silver. and its even the green, not gold. only been in ~200 miles. no UOA yet with the gc.

i would stay away from supertech full syn, unless you add some BG MOA (but then whats the point of saving a few $$). supertech products have very little additive pack, no moly.

M-1 OW40 does very well in the Q and has moly as well as a nice add pack, M1 5/30 and 10/30 are not their best products (no ACEA A3 rating).

gc 0W30 is just fine for a healthy VH45DE.
