no, but I can find some;)

actually, there's a uh....91 or 92 black coupe at a lot in Nashville for 2500 with a 5 speed. It's a base so it's got no electric crap or a sunroof or that other annoying stuff to have go out.

It has a weird rattle under the hood though, not sure what that is, Skwerel test drove it and said it ran good, 'cept it died for some unknown reason a few times when he put in the clutch and all.

I went to see a 95 240 base model down in Macon yesterday. Selling for 4k, but his had a replaced KA24DE with a loose head gasket, so my mechanic told me it's best not to buy it since it made the water run too hot.

The owner said he bought the engine at 20k and now it's 50k, and the original stock motor was replaced by the previous owner b/c it overheated. Chassis 170k.

What made me suspicious was when my mechanic and I were testdriving it, the owner was sitting in the back seat telling us how he got the car for reliability for driving from Macon to Atlanta. I knew something fishy was going on b/c he doesn't work in Atlanta and he just recently bought a Lancer Evolution. When my mechanic felt the water pipe flowing from the engine to the radiator after running for only 3-5 minutes, he said it was too hot and that it should overheat and possibly blow if we had driven it for about 10 miles.

Here's my $.02...

As much as we all imagine what that perfect car will look like, sound like, and feel like, you've got to remember that these cars can be up to 15 years old. To get it into the shape you want, you need to be ready to get your hands dirty and do it yourself.

I found my S13 literally the day after my truck died. I told my roomate about it and he said, "Oh, by the way, so-and-so's selling his 240." I called him up, and after two weeks had it driven down from mid-state and paid 2100 for it. 196k miles on the odometer, mind you, and a couple dings. But I knew I wouldn't have another chance like that. This was LAST October.

Since then I have invested probably 2000-2300 more clams in tuneups, repairs, audio and engine upgrades. I'm just now getting to fix up the interior.. Replacing seats, swapping cracked plastic out, etc. etc... Next up are the body panels and paint.

What I'm saying is that while you may be able to find a nice car for under $2000, don't delude yourself into believing that it's actually paid for.

Cars are like wom-- I, uh, mean like men... if you have one, you're paying for it every day. :D

HEAD GASKET, 240SX - KA24DE 95-98 $36.34 (http://www.everythingnissan.com). For what it's worth, you'd want an experienced mechanic to do the job to ensure not only that it is properly installed but that it isn't a defective piece. Add up cost of labor, figure you're in the ballbark of 100 bucks. ASSUMING that's the biggest problem.

At any rate, it will be cheaper than what I've been though. If all that's wrong with that car is the gasket, it's worth checking out. $4000 is a decent deal, from what I understand, for S14a's. But you also should trust your mechanic's opinion. Mine said that I shouldn't pay more than 1500 for the car when I got it. He was right.

Still, I'm happy. If you are comfortable dropping another $1000 bucks into the S14, check it again. I say $1000 because, well, you never know, dammit. LOL. Also, hot water may be indicative of a different, unknown problem, or cause more problems in the time between its onset and resolution.

Have a heart to heart with your mechanic if you can. Tell him what's up, that you REALLY want the S14, and ask how much he thinks it would cost to fix up. If you get the vibe that it's worthwhile, see if you can't take it to a trusted auto shop and get a bumper-to-bumper inspection done. These are usually pretty inexpensive and the feedback you get is a HUGE bargaining chip when it comes down to settling on the price.

Yeah he said there were some other problems that are unknown and to not buy it over $2800. He also knows I'm into 240's cuz he's been helping me look for one for 2 years so far. Haha. Man, what luck.

I totally feel your pain...I've been looking for about 11 months now for a decent 240...a few good ones did come up but I was dumb and didn't jump on it as fast as I could. I've broadened my search since then to include sentra's/200sx's, but still, yeah I feel ya. It sucks.
