Nah, Dave. From his description, I'd wager it's an issue with the potentiometer. Short of tearing the speakers down and rebuilding and replacing the pot, not a while lot that can be done, and honestly, from the description, sounds like they aren't worth it anyways.

That sound bar really does sound like a good deal though. It's even still got the original box.

Meh, suit yourself. I do retail store and general business computer, a/v and media computer break/fix all the time, 99% turns out to be that damn plug/receptacle needing a good clean.
The potentiometer generally only goes bad if it's been stored in a pool office or spent it's life in a humidor. (or if it's like 25 years old or something...)

But seriously, I only suggest repairs compared to new stuff because it was recently shown to me what happens to 80% of our tossed gadgets. Did you guys know that recycling companies are just shipping this stuff over to Africa and dumping it? I shouldn't be shocked, but I am. I saw some documentary last month where the locals just grab whatever new trash and burn the plastic off it for the metals in them. Disgusting.

My buddy works for an electronics and metal recycling place. He regularly takes memory and graphics cards home.

Yeah, amazing right?

My whole county has a program for every house to have a special paper, yard waste and plastics bins and they fine you if you don't separate it all out regularly enough. I believe in it, but I just hope the scallywags in our govt. haven't hired a shifty organization to handle it all.

I wanna get started on a side project cleaning the gold off the contacts for that stuff. $20 in chemicals and just collecting old boards can yield a few grams of gold every year.

Yeah, I was actually looking at youtube videos a while back of a dude doing that. Seems like a lot of work though, and Brooke wouldn't let me have jugs of chemicals just sitting around the house.

Do you have a shelf with auto greases, brake fluid, gear oil etc? If so, I'm gonna call it and say "those are chemicals"...

Water's a chemical, if you want to get semantic. And I ALWAYS want to get semantic. Nothing sets me off like the phrase "chemical-free."

A buddy actually wanted to start to boycott Subway because someone sent him an infographic about how they bake their bread with dihydrogen monoxide and all the "hazardous" uses it also has, like nuclear reactor cooling. I'm not even kidding.

I recycle most things. I turn anything that will burn into energy, food stuffs get composted and I hoard electronics like it's my job. I simply can't part with the stuff.

I try to recycle as much as possible too, but my area is too densely populated to allow burning waste. To conserve water I've been thinking about selling my urine to those that can't pass drug tests. I feel like I'm flushing away a fortune.

If you run into Chris "Ethel" Berman, he might ask you to step back-back-back-back-back-back-back-back....

negative, but that's what they refer to the property as. i've driven past plenty of times, and i have a cousin who lives within a mile, so i see the satellite farm a lot.

just an update for those who were involved: i was at costco with mark, killing time while i got tires installed on the exploder. we walked through the electronics section and i stopped at the home theater section. i ended up grabbing a vizio 2.1 soundbar with wireless subwoofer for $150. i googled the system for reviews while we wandered and saw very favorable reviews.

so after initial setup, i logged onto netflix and played "metallica: through the never" to do some tuning of audio levels. i got the music sounding great, but that's concert sound. so next, i put on "black hawk down" to do sime fine tuning. that's when i realized my inner brown is too in love with excessive bass. it's all good now and sounding fantastic.

i almost went with the 5.1 system for $50 more, but after listening to the 2.1 demo (the one that i got), and thinking about how small my living room is, i'm glad i went with the set i did. it sounds great.

It's all about room size.

I use Star Wars to tune everything movie wise. If you've never watched Star Wars with really good audio it's like seeing it for the very first time. I remember the first time I watched it with real sound. It was like switching from a tube tv to HD.

For music I use Deathmau5. If it can play that clearly it can play pretty much anything.

so i have a robin in a box here at work. we saw it outside the door. it didn't fight me when i picked it up. the wings can be extended without resistance, but it won't attempt to fly. i wonder if it flew into a window and is just still f*** up

well the bird is dead. the lady next door and i literally watched it die. i went to toss it out the box into the back lot (the foxes gotta eat), and it hit the wall and landed very clumsily into a bush. goodbye geoff, i just named it geoff, sorry your funeral sucked.

Blue is a new thing anyway. Some say it's the new green.

When paired with black, others even say it's the new white.
