I very rarely post stuff on FB other than pics of my son for my family. Too many people complaining about stupid non-sense and new articles from un-credible sources.

^This. Times a billion. So many people just trust whatever they read. They have no concept of doing some research to verify ANYTHING.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts. I only have a select number of "friends" on FB. All of them know me well, to the point that I can act like myself and say pretty much whatever I want without worrying if I offended anyone. Hopefully they all feel the same way. Sometimes you gotta turn down friend requests and things might be a little weird with that person when you see them. But I enjoy not having to censor myself and some people are just f*** toxic to be around.

I get a ton of good info from FB. Stuff that matters to me, like the Pats injuries or the Bruins line changes. Or awesome vehicle crashes and etc. I follow some news groups as well as I have totally dumped the MSM.

Sometimes my news feed gets a bit negative, so I just turn off anything negative that I see. Do that a couple times and your news feed pretty much clears itself right up.

I read a lot, like a lot. Almost constantly. FB allows people with similar interests to link me directly to articles and books and vids that I would otherwise never have read. That's pretty damn cool imho.

Far more positive things about FB than negative, at least for me.

As with all things, it is what you make of it.

Happy Tuesday people!

Gotta remove the 'S' from 'https' for youtube links. Not sure why. Probably need to look into the embed code on this end. I fixed yours for now :bigthumb:

I agree to a point, but it's still a distraction in my life that I would like to remove for a while. When we can't sit down to dinner without looking at FB half the time while we're sitting there, then I think there is a problem with that. There is nothing that interesting on FB that I should be distracting myself with that much.

Sure, you can sit there and delete people, along with tailoring your news feed to show you only what you want to see. I just am at a point in my life where I need to remove distractions and frustrations like FB from my life to better focus on other things.

FB has plenty of uses and I enjoy keeping up with a lot of the NICO family on there, along with a few select friends and family. So after taking a month away from it if I do decide to start using it again then i'll likely take the time to purge my friends list and remove a lot of the negativity that bothers me.

That's just rude. If you wanna do that ish while having a family dinner, you eat alone or not at all. I used to try to play video games when I was a kid like that and had my sh*t slapped and the console shut off. I knew it was wrong, too.

There is a problem with that, but one very easily fixed. In my home, no electronics at the table during meals. Forces everyone to communicate the old fashioned way. No, not with smoke signals or flatulence, but verbal.

Yeah, not sure how you could even attempt normal dinner without the no electronics rule.

I didn't say it wasn't. I was just using it as an example and maybe I should've been a little more clear - My wife and I do that, typically while sitting at a restaurant. We don't do that when we're eating with family or multiple people.

The point is FB is a distraction that needed to be removed for a while. We've already identified the issues and have handled them accordingly.

i'm a huge stickler for no distractions at the table while sharing a meal with others. we sat down together to eat and enjoy each other's company, not to be immersed in a screen next to each other. i just dealt with it last night, went out with three friends, two of which were playing on their phones, and myself and the third friend looking at them in disgust. i have zero shame in telling them to knock it off.

it's gotten to the point where i have to be the adult and scold my mother for this nonsense when we go out.

I've been that dude at the restaurant...

Although, in my defense I justify watching rally vids and whatnot on youtube with the boys as a means to keep them from killing each other.

I don't disagree, but we don't have a normal life either. We have a whacked out schedule that doesn't always allow us to eat at normal times or even together most nights, so a normal dinner isn't really normal for us. It's a little easier since Kristen has moved back to day shift, but she has over an hour commute right now so usually we don't eat dinner until after 8pm. I usually feed the kid much earlier though because she goes to bed at 9pm.

Just a part of the life.

Honestly I think we've all done it at some point and time. Mobile devices are distracting in general. My in-laws are even worse than we are about being on their phones. I guess me and the wife just finally realized the problem with it and decided to finally do something about it.
