Mornin' Ray, feeling pretty good today. As of yesterday it has been 2 weeks, sure do miss my Wife.
How are things on your end?
They're going alright here.
Its a bummer to hear man. Both of my grandparents died last week, but I can't say that I really knew them so its not quite the impact that spending the past half decade with must be. I'm really sorry man.

If you're always gonna live where you'll need a mower, save up your money and just buy you a good one when you have the money saved up. I push-mowed an acre+ for years. Still would if we had grass.
I disagree. I have had a self-propelled mower for 3 years and honestly it's really no easier than a regular push mower to use. I borrowed my neighbors regular push mower when mine was down one year and it actually was easier to mow with. Self-propelled mowers spin more than they actually pull, unless you have perfectly level land and mow it very regularly. Mine is pretty flat and my self-propelled sucks a**.
If you can afford it Ray, take it from personal experience and do it right the first time. If I factor in how much I spent on my self-propelled and how much I spent paying someone else to mow my grass due to it getting even slightly out of control, I would've saved a lot of money just buying a rider in the first place. Like I said yesterday, the off-season is almost here and there will be good deals everywhere on nice mowers.
My 'rents had a decent self propelled back in the day, but Florida is crazy flat. Granted, we had a couple of gullies, but they weren't the end of the world.
After talking with the lady last night I think we're going to do a combo of all three.
We'll go to check out the mower this evening or tomorrow. Depending on if that pans out and how spendy we're feeling we may get it.
If we don't, the mathematical argument is the following:
$80/mo for mowing service split 3 ways is $26/mo each.
At $80/mo, it would take 7 months to break even on hiring a service vs. purchasing the $550 used mower; assuming it doesn't need repairs during that time.
However, the season is almost over, as Chris mentioned; approx. 4 months left.
Ultimately, its cheaper to continue having a service provided through the season. In the mean time we can be saving for a new mower.
At $26/mo for our collective time spent sharing the chore, the equation becomes a 'whats your time worth' argument, and $25/month is definitely a value when compared to the time that I personally want to spend mowing.
