Incorrect. RPM increase is a replacement for displacement

Since when did RPM transfer into HP & Torque?

a stock ka will rev to 7K no problem but a FCW crankshaft and the KA will actually build hp past 7K rpms

Then you have the problem of getting the head to flow enough air to make power past 7k.

So you can prove that increasing rpm makes more power then increasing displacement on these particular engines? Oh, just talking out your @#$...

Ask the SR guys if they'd rather have the 2.2 stroker kit or higher revving stock SR.
Space Monkey wrote:

Peak HP will be higher assuming your head can flow enough air. However, the power curve is increased more efficiently by adding displacement since you gain power throughout the entire rpm range vs just peak.

The crank can't increase power past 7k just by being counter weighted homie. You need cams and a turbo that will support the volume required at that rpm. The KA just needs cams and valve springs to rev right to 7300. Been done many many times.

Lets not turn this thread into another retarded speculative "what if" thread.

No one has won any competition yet, because there hasn't been one. The Omaha event was going to be just the 1/8th which IMO, aint worth d!ck. So we'll run the 1320 somewhere or just compare times and dyno runs.

Regardless, this is all about Koshin and I talking some smack and then running the best we can with what we have. I'd be totally F'd if Chris wasn't giving me the supercharger for the price of shipping. I owe him big time, NA is GAY.

The KASCN2O vs SR20DET WILL take place. Life happens and plans change but it'll still be hella fun to get together and ruin a set of tires. We'll have to make sure we get some quality video taken, we don't wanna miss Koshin grinding 2nd and missing 3rd

I have personally ridden in a Tomei 2.2 S13 before....It was a badass fo sho

A friend of mine over on Okinawa had the 2.2 Tomei kit installed and he was only running 14 psi but it was enough to make his car run like a scalded dog

With the 2.2 and a larger framed turbo the SR is a bad mofo.

Here you go -- it not TT but it still puts out 802WHP!!! That is more HP than GDemension's all out top shop challenge SR20 w/ 827 crank HP.

http://www.importtuner.com/tec....htmlh ... ec....html

I think this engine could easily put out way over 1000hp w/ a bigger turbo!!

There's no replacement for displacement. If weight of cars were equal, as well as boost levels, KA > SR. Although the KA weighs a bit more than the SR...

Of course once you start changing weight and other parameters, things get more tricky. Would love to swing out that way and watch the chaos.

Well, that's only if all things are equal. If your efficiency is much better, then yeah... you'll make more power.

The original 3.6l ford flathead V8 only made something like 65hp.

But otherwise yeah, no replacement

When I tear the SR down soon, Im gonna do a 2.2 or 2.3 liter. It DOES make sense to have more displacement I guess

SR23 > KA-T ?? or not

If you can add displacement via stroke and keep the assembly balanced it's a total win. "Free power" is always a good thing.

You're running what, 15 psi now? That same 15 psi will be a whole new animal with the stoker kit. Then again you'll need a bigger turbo for sure, 3076R FTW

Ill have to use a bigger snail for sure...

..Ill be using a Tomei crank and customs pistons if I go 2.3

I hate to get into her like that, but it needs to be done. I just dont want it to be retarded like several of my old S13's...they start getting weird at around 400whp. squirly-wise I mean

Im running 7 on the street and 1 bar at the track. I know a bar will feel a little more torquey at 15 lbs on my current setup.

I built the very first 6-bolt 2.6 liter DOHC boosted 4g64 in a DSM. with the stock 1g turbo setup (14b and stcok manifold at stock boost), the 2.6 made 140 ft/lbs more torque and 90 hp to the ground more than a stock 4g63 powered AWD DSM. It was an amazing motor. Coolest thing Ive built other than the bike motor Im working on building now.

That DSM was the MAC. 3rd fastest on street tires in the nation at one point. Ill dig up some pics and specs. It was setup to go to the SCC USCC and I broke it at Road Atlanta 2 weeks before the showdown. I blew the drivetrain into a million pieces. Imagine that.

it made in the realm of 660 hp and more than that torque

Race doesn't count because drag racing sucks big floppy donkey d!ck.

That said....
WDRacing wrote:Hard to have a circuit and a drag contest and build the car for either one more then the other. Most circuit cars are far slower in the 1320 and most drag cars...well they usually end up in the grass when venturing out onto the circuit...lol. Especially with 275/60's out back.

I drag far more often then I'll even see a road course, but I'd love to have a car designed to do both well. Just requires more money then I have right now.
Lou Gigliotti took his C5 z06 world challenge car to the strip for s***s and giggles...in full road race trim except for the rear wing the thing goes 10.50 @ 140, 535 rwhp...it can be done

One more thing, the displacement vs. revs compromise....

In this vid the first car you see, the purpleish coupe, watch the whole video youll see it again a few times

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gj64MuSgcZk

This is Brian Wilkerson from MA-Motorsports, the car has a 2.2L SR, and redlines at 9500 rpms, and makes not quite 500 rwhp...and the damn thing just works

BTW anyone saying adding displacement to an SR is cheating is like saying adding a turbo to a KA is cheating

when i heard KAT vs. SR I thought it was gonna be a stock sr vs a stock ka with a turbo. That's what everyone compares the two engines, stock for stock with the exception of the stock ka being boosted. With the sr stroker kit it changes the whole powerband and overall characteristics of the "old torque-less SR", much like a fully-built KA isn't that same "truck motor" with crappy cams, small ports, etc.

Just like that article on Dsport(or w/e mag it was) with the ka-t vs SR, there's too many variables to make a good analysis of the true potential of each motor.
