Woah that was a short break. I got a co-op for the Spring semester, full time job, no tuition to pay, but I'm still considered a full time student. The whole not having to go to class thing is pretty sweet.

That's a super sweet deal Chris! Congrats man. Job and school have been kicking my butt too, esp now that my clinicals have geared up, but only 3 months to graduation!

Anyone ever repair a manual trans? My 4th gear sync is on the way out, I never use it anymore BUT I'd like to get her as reliable as I can. Can't have the wifeunit driving a car that she has to remember what gears she isn't supposed to use.

BTW
Good Morning!!!

Probably easier/cheaper to just find a good used transmission to swap.

About a month old but worth a shot, DE is only so big.

WD, I'd agree on the used trans if you can find a good one. That's hit or miss unfortunately. If you have the FSM and the proper tools, you could rebuild/refresh yourself with new bearings, syncros, seals, etc. for about $400 or pay a shop ~$800-1000. Have to reassemble correctly though, or you'll have all kinds of issues (not going into gear, wearing out quickly, breaking, etc.)

Here are my thoughts, the S13 is old and beat in almost every available form. The S14 is only slightly better, thx to you drift punks. Unless the transmission is almost free, I'd rather not buy a used one. The amount of work involved to swap a trans correctly, to include changing out everything that can be at the same time mind you, is too great an investment to end up finding out the trans is a lemon.

Worth saving a few extra bucks and buying a rebuilt unit, imho of course.

It also makes me wonder just how difficult it would be to install something like a TH400.

The funny thing I've found about transmissions is that you don"t really even have to know how they work to work on them lol. Just make sure you put everything back together EXACTLY how it came apart and you're good to go. I've never ripped apart a KA trans though, not sure if there are any parts that require a bearing press or something similar. That would make it harder.

I dunno, really depends on the trans. Some manual transmissions can be finicky and things have to be aligned and in somecases clearanced upon reassembly, otherwise it will not function correctly. With that said, I have never cracked open a KA/SR/RB20/CA trans either. I guess just glance through the FSM and see how painstaking it is.

decent pay and good benefits are always the first to go. that sucks. I'm self employed and it's been a few weeks since I've worked myself. I'm thinnking after 5 years I might have to go back to work for someone.

Well, she actually did something out of naivety, that turned out to be illegal, so she was fired. The Chief of Staff at her job is a retired Naval Lawyer. He was the only person who knew what she did was illegal and dozens of people knew, but he's a lawyer so he knows. I think he saw only worst case scenario and let her go on those grounds. They are paying her through March, and they are only doing that because they said they understood how much she helped them last yr and they appreciated her hard work (really? how about you give her disciplinary action & let her stay on?). Really sucks bc she had just gotten a 9% raise at the beginning of the yr and was supposed to get another in the summer at the start of the new fiscal yr. Since she was fired, she does not qualify for unemployment. The head of HR said her record was clean though bc I asked if this incident precluded her from working there again, he said her record was clean, but he would give it some time. So, we're going to apply for UI and hope it's approved.

I know the feeling well unfortunately. Hopefully she finds something quickly that's even better!

Truth in this here statement. I need to find an S chassis that's not beat to s*** within driving distance, that's presentable enough to be driven to an Engineering firm for an internship...

^I dunno man, guys are finding relatively low mileage and good condition S13's and S14's still today. I can find a few good ones around here & I'm not looking too hard. Tons of crappy ones too though. It is getting much harder unfortunately. Thanks Dubs, but thankfully I've got a good job here and can work 60hrs a week. With that overtime pay, I can pull in what the two of us used to make together. Just sucks since I'm finishing up my last semester of nursing school.

Hey guys!

Sorry about the wifey Homeslice, once you graduate though you'll probably earn enough to cover her salary plus some.

I was just having the beat up s13 conversation the other day, and I have to agree haha. Every event I go to is about 75% s13's, whereas the majority of 240's i see on the road are s14's driven by people that have no idea what drifting even is.

I bought a groupon for a 2 day HPDE at Carolina Motorsports Park, I'm really looking forward to actually tracking my car at a real race track. Having an instructor is going to help out a lot too, hopefully they don't mind my welded diff haha.

edit: so now we have an ad system that will automatically link keywords? Ghey.

Yeah the auto linking thing is pretty annoying.
We're talking about it in the Mod forums. Might have it removed.

Chris, a side note of VIR charity laps on March 30th. $25 for a while on the track, though behind a pace car, still usually hit over 100 on the straights.
