I just returned from Tulsa this afternoon, drove my 1992 Ranger SC (4.0L 5 speed) got 23.5 mpg and left a couple of Dodge Dakotas wondering what the heck was in THAT Ranger (most Rangers of my vintage are 2.3L 4 bangers). Kept up with one all the way over 85, still had LOTS left only turning 3200 rpm. And the white haired lady I honked at in Tulsa (as she pulled out in front of me) in the Graphite G35, I hope your Victorias Secrets dried out before you got home... You were coming south on Indianapolis, I was traveling east on 66th. You were watching the westbound jogger on 66th and failed to even look my way. I almost impressed you with my Ranger. But that was a real nice maneuver into the driveway IN FRONT OF THE JOGGER, avoiding me, and using about 5000 miles of your Bridgestones in the process. NASCAR style burnout/doughnut counterclockwise 180 and nobody hit anything...not even the garage door!

She went from southbound off Indanapolis, to eastbound on 66th to northbound in the first driveway on 66th. She stopped about a foot from the garage door four carlengths off the street.

Oh OK. Maybe I need to read more carefully.

This morning as I headed home from school on Rt 53, this black Grand Am GT (probably around '00) speeds past by me. I see there werent any cars in sight so I floored it.

I soon caught up and passed him. I was still pulling on him and got up to 100 mph but then slowed down because I didnt want to get pulled over. He slowed down as well. We continued to go travel on that street for another mile until I turned.

He gave me a quick wave as I turned showing he was a good sport.

I dont know if I should be proud of this (how fast are they anyways?) but still felt good.

Take care,

- Omar

Did 120mph in my J30 going down I85 a few weeks back. Original transmission and the car had 207k miles at the time. Did 100mph exact for a mile or two on I85 southbound today. Car does fine at 100 but if I go 110 or more the ride gets shaky (then again, my tires are only rated for 120).

When I lived in England I had a 1964 Jaguar Mk II 3.4 L Straight six. This had a manual with electric overdrive giving 6 speeds. So I am on my way from Rushden to Northampton Hospital where my son was in intensive care after delivery.I am on the A45 which then was two lane and twisty with very short straights for overtaking. The roads were wet (remember this bit) with a light rain.I was doing the speed limit of 50 mph and crested a hill and saw the police car watching the traffic immediately start to move as he saw me.Being a bit young and fed up with being pulled over for no reason, I stood on the gas as soon as the next corner came up and I was out of sight. Changed down to third, with full throttle shifts into 3rd overdrive, I overtook several cars on each straight. Each time I saw the 6 cylinder Wolsey Police car it was going backwards. From experience I know the Jag would hit 110 on these short straights. This went on until the traffic got heavy and the first traffic light going into Northampton appeared. So I am in slowing to a stop and notice the left turn lane is empty ( same as our right lane merge here) and take it. It went to a new road just opened for a short stretch, the road quickly ran out and I had no choice but to turn right. Then amazingly I saw the hospital wall and found the entrance. All was well, no flashing lights and I went in thinking that was that. The next Saturday I go with my wife to pick up my son from intensive care. We are returning on the A45 in bright sunshine and doing a normal 45 -50 when out of nowhere a police car overtook me and stopped sideways in front of us.I get the full inspection of paper work and interrogation. Just before being sent on our way the officer looks me in the eye and says the rear tires are too wide and kick up too much spray and to get them changed.Adding, “Watch out I will be watching for you !!!”No summons (like a ticket but hand delivered by a squad car with the lights flashing, so the neighbors ask lots of questions, yet another story) and not too many awkward questions from the wife either.

Yes I put the stock wheels back on.

Time to dig up the graveyard...
This past weekend I went out to Seattle to visit, I live some 130 miles away.
Some of the people enjoy a little freeway race.
So on my way back home I encountered several people looking to speed.
The first car to pull up on me was some tricked Honda Accord. I drive a near stock '97 Q45 (fluids and a rebuilt transmission being the difference) and floored it when I saw him coming up on me. We got to about 100 before he leaned off and went his own way.
Several miles later, and old Jaguar S-Type pulls next to me and we gradually speed up to 100 before he floors it to pull ahead. He doesn't pull ahead, as my Q drags on hitting about 125 before I had to take my exit. I could see him continue to pull through even after I was gone.
Now for the fun one. About half an hour after that, I gradually pull past a cop car - speed limit 60, I do 68 - until he's out of sight. At the same time, a 2012 Acura TL comes up and passes me going about 85. He doesn't wanna race yet, but I do. I pull up on him and follow him through the weave of cars until we reach a clear area and we drag. At this point, he's a little behind me but catching up. At about 120 we slow back down to 80 and meet a Mustang 302, one of the new ones. The Mustang doesn't care at all until he sees us climbing to 100, at which point he joins for the cruise. I floor it hoping to get a head start, knowing I was fronting, and the Mustang drops a gear or two and slams through. He's gone, I'm going 130, the TL is pulling up slowly but surely, and I'm pretty sure he'll pass me too (he might have unlocked his ECU as we were doing 140 and he had plenty more juice). We catch up to the Mustang once more, still going over 140, and the 302 once again drops and guns it, zipping away. I was impressed, both with my car and both of theirs.
In the middle of the 302 sessions, a State Patrol trooper was blasting his lights on the other side of the road, and we all slammed on the brakes thinking he was after us. Scary moment of the evening.
People say the Q45's can get up to 180, and I believe that. Mine needs a tune up, and an unlocked limiter, but I can see these cars slamming up to those speeds.
