OUCH!!!!!! gotta be careful when playin' with a Q. great "murder" story,,,blood and all!!!LOL what kind of performance does an SHO have. i think the earlier ones used yamaha six's with only around 220 horsepower, think the later ones had a ford v8.

how about a chevy impala ss. my friend gave me a "yea right" kinda look when i said i'm sure the Q would kill it. any insight?? jeff

10-year-old Q45 with 100K miles + 10-year-old domestic sportscar + sustained flat-out acceleration

= one Chevy crate motor on the credit card. :D

Nice killkill, Rex!

Q will take all model years of SHO.A good going early Q wwill take a Impala at hi end easily.ImpallaSS's less then optimally maintained might get taken in the quarter by a well mainatined early Q.

A new SS in 95 was faster than a new Q in 95 in the quarter and evenly matched on top.

Just like any other race: Impala will take it to 30mph by a car length, then the Q gets to work and dispatches it with ease.

Same with my 2001 Interceptor, remember?

Keep in mind no need to manually downshift into 3rd the car will do it for you with equal facility if you mash the gas pedal hard enough.

Fred..:)

I've found that if at "about 70" I down shift to 3rd and ROMP get's me into 2nd until I hit 7000 rpms. Is this more me thinking, than reality?

I was stopped at a stoplight on a small highway the other day, and an E46 BMW 325i sedan pulls in behind me and my 95 G20t automatic. I decided to have some fun....we were doing about 70 (speed limit 55) side by side (pissing off slow drivers) until we had to slow for a stoplight. We stopped next to eachother, and looking at the BMW I could see the guy driving it (looked like some lawyer or businessman) had a huge smile on his face. As we parted ways (I was turning) he gave me the thumbs-up and I waved. Good fun.

It will always downshift into 2nd if you mash the pedal down to the "click point"..... That is acually a switch that, no matter the speed, downshifts into 1st or 2nd (2nd if your above like 40)

friday, i was driving to school, and we have about a 3/4 mi long curvy road with sparse traffic until the end, at the traffic light. This gay *** kid i like to call Uncle Ben because of his 2003 Mustang with Altezzas and japanese kanji stickers on the side and bbs rims, (American Rice). Anyway, he was in the left lane going about 55. the limit is 45. i pulled next to him, and looked over and made the eye contact. he sped up, so did i, and i was already going a little faster than him, but i beat him out for the whole 1/2 mi left and down the hill, and to the stoplight, where i proceeded to not run the yellow so he'd have to wait even longer. (I was in no rush). Anyway, i'm gonna print out an Uncle Ben's logo onto a sticker and slap it on his lame-*** car.

The later V8s were also Yamahas, but they did something stupid like tried final assembly here. The strangest thing is they were 60° V8 with balance shafts so the blocks could be milled on the same line.

The press-on heat shrink cam chain sprockets are notorious for coming undone with disastrous results. They must be pinned. Ford does not acknowledge the problem. Sound familiar?

So I came up to Lawrence on Friday up I-35 (about a 2-hour drive). The road is virtually dead that morning at 9:30. I'm crusing along at 76, trying to behave when all of a sudden I see a late 90s 740il coming up on me fast. Keep in mind my car is PACKED with all the crap I was moving up to my new apartment.

He pulls up next to me so I speed up to 85 and he shoots past me at about 95. I just can't get passed by a BMW unless it's an M series. So I floored it and shot past him at about 105. He caught up and we went back and forth like that for about 4 miles. Then we got right up next to each other at 85 and punched it. He didn't have a chance. By the time I hit 120 he was about 6 car lengths back. I slowed down and he pulled up to me and said, "Nice car. Is that a 99?" I said "No, it's a 90". He couldn't believe it. He sped off and I felt good about my latest bimmer kill.

I have a story similiar to Rex's story with the Vette.

I am on my way to North Dallas on Hwy. 75. As usual, there is plenty of traffic. I'm cruising in the left lane, when an older Suburban (early 90s) cuts me off.

My wife is with me, so I don't take offense. Anyway, I stay behind this guy for a bit, waiting for him to move over. The center lane was clear.

But he is not moving. So I cruise around him and get in the left lane again.

I guess this offended his delicate ego. I can see him speeding up in my mirror.

So, I give it some more throttle and quickly get up to 90 mph. The guy is still coming.

I floor it and get up to 110. The Suburban has become real small.

A few seconds later, I see him behind me again.

He goes around me, but gets stuck behind another car. There is nowhere for him to go because traffic is real tight.

The driver and the passenger are giving me that gangster rapper stare.

I look over at their Suburban and something catches my eye. I see green stuff dripping from the front.

Then I see more green stuff. This time it is splashing out.

Now I see them dive for the next exit.

Oh well. I guess they overheated their vehicle trying to keep up.

The moral of this story. There is nothing Sporty about an Sports Utility Vehicle.

And also, Don't mess with the Q.

I was driving my moms 95 Maxima when this integ and an s10 pickup try to go around me b/c I was doing the speed limit I guess. As they moved to the other side of the road I said **** it they aint passin me. The Integra was right next to me and th s10 ewas ridin my ***. they were still with me at 100 so I pushed it a little further. At about 110 I saw a car onthe other side of the road. I figured that the integ would slow down but he didnt. The car was a cop car. I accelerated more to give the car some room and he moved in. Then I slowed down. I was still doing about 87 when he put his lights on. He went passed us did a 180 and began to chase us. Since it was about 2am and my moms car is black. I turned my lights off and acclereated hard. I turned onto a drive near my house at about 45mph and pulled into my friends garage. He was on vacation but the garage was always unlocked. So I just pulled it up, put the car in and closed the door. I saw the cop as it slowly passed the house with his spotlight on. At that speed it would take him about 3-5 minutes to come back from the dead end, so I pulled out with my lights off and went to my house which is about 2.5 minutes away.

JDMFReak03,

That's a great story with a happy ending! Quick thinking your friend's garage - that's one of those opportunities that everything just lined up just right. Glad you didn't get caught, just be careful out there... if you ever do get caught running they'll nail your a$$ to the wall for it. I have a couple of cop buddies and they don't take kindly to stuff like that (not to say I haven't hidden behind dumpsters and taken unexpected shopping trips near the interstate myself :D)

What IS the top end on a 95 SS? My 95 Q is almost as fast as my 93 was. Both have been up to 150 mph in third, with a shift to 4th and still climbing. Those 150 runs were not slow climbs either.

If the top speed is 141, is that redline, drag, or elect ltd.? If drag limited, it may take a bit to even get there. If so, the Q maybe a little behind early, but so far gone late 'cause the Q is a rocket to 155mph! Besides, the SS may look decent outside but it is grandpa's chevy on the inside. Have they ever thought about putting the steering wheel directly in front of the driver instead of off center?

I had a little shindig myself today, not enought to call it a kill........

Well anyway, I had a golf tournament today, and me and my friend, who has a 96 cutlass, were driving along.... My 13 y.o brother was in the car with me, and my friend tries to slow down to get me to slam on the brakes..... So im cruising at about 60, and I pass him.... He gives me some kind gestures, and we got to a 4 way stop..... We turned the same direction, and I am going about 45, and i see him get in the other lane to pass me..... I hit the gas a little (not enough for it to downshift) and I shot in front of him, so he pulls back behind me, where he belongs..... We were going about 80 in a 40..........

Not too bad for a Q with bad KS and the AC on full....... Although, it was just a cutlass.......

Yea I almost **** my pants. Plus the fact that I am 17, I would have been ultimately screwed. I really didnt know if his garage was open since he was on vacation. I had a better chance going on the railroad down at the dead end of his road.

im not too sure if the SS was drag limited or redline limited, i would probably guess redline, as im sure they had somewhat short gears for being such a big car (because they were an SS), i'd still take a Q over it, and yes, hte Q would win up top, a more fair comparo would actually be the sportier M45, which i think all agree, would slaughter the SS

Just returned from a 2 week, 2,700 mile trip from PA up thru New England to Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. What a treat my 91 Q continues to be on long drives. There were times on some Canadian super highways I had it on cruise control at 100 mph for long periods of time. Rock-steady and smooth. Another great road is the Airline Road from Bangor, Maine to the Canadian border at Calais where you can go just about any speed and I did. Averaged about 22-23 mpg for the trip. Old Q's are great cars anytime but are especially fun on long hi-speed runs.
