I've read probably 70% of this thread and you were originally going with the .86 A/R GT2871R, then I skipped some pages of nut-swinging and noticed you bought the .63 A/R. Why'd you switch? Codyace talk you out of it?

lol i switched because of the kind of driving i will be doing. since i like grip driving. twisty turning roads. the .64 has the better, more level power band. less turbo lag. and will more then meet my goals of 400 rwhp. i kept going back and forth on which to choose but finally settled on this one because of all the input i got on it from different people. yes cody was one of them. but i didnt take his word completely i get alot of input and then make my own mind up.

well an update for tonight even though i laid in bed all day feeling crappy. i mustered enough energy to do some work.got the fpr mounted and all fuel lines hooked up. all wires are hooked up now minus the gauge wires which we will do later.everything is grounded.coolant over flow tank is installed.cold pipe is installed. along with hose going to iacvbung installed on hot pipe pipe bung on lower hot pipe filledcross-member is bolted up. except for the nuts i need to get the right sized ones.i think i will fabricate my own throttle bracket. my dad wants to do this special one using the stock bracket re-welded . but he is leaving so i will do my own.i got the shifter bolted in for the last time now.not much left to do now. i will get soem more done tomorrow

I've been researching turbo upgrades for my current 240 for a while and I know you feel strongly about the .86

Most people seem to think anything bigger than the .64 2871R and you should step up to a T3 flanged GT3071R and make more power with similar spool.

here is my turbo upgrade thoughts in terms of pwoer(sequence)

2871 .64 (good for 400)

AGP 50 trim t3/t4 (good for 450ish)...better spool than the .86 2871, less money...top mount t3 flange too. A good buy 'for the money'

Top mount t3 flanged 3071r (450ish, quicker spool than the t3/t4, but more money). If I had to really pick one, money being no object, I'd go to a 3071r and skip the t3/t4....

GT35r (500+)

Now, the 3071r will not spool ANYWHERE near the 2871r. Usually 800-1000 rpm's later, this side of timing/supreme tuning. It tends to spool equal the .86 housing.

Now don't get me wrong, the 2871r .86 is a NICE turbo, but I feal as if you could make better power simply upgrading to a t3 based setup at that point.

Yeah I meant to come back and clarify my post after Idaho responded, but work owns me.

Cody, do you think the compressor inlet size would make any difference on a 2871?

T04S style inlet:

T28 style inlet:

I'm looking at a package deal from FRSport.com for the GT2871 and they only sell the T28 style.

Sorry for the hijack Idaho.

hey that is fine. rb25. i can actually tell you there is no difference between the two turbos. when i ordered mine from phase2 they gave me the option for either. they said the t28 style was a direct drop in. and using the circuit sport adapter plates can position the inlet and out let exactly like the t25. it is the one i went with. just for the ease of the install.

ok so i need to figure out how to mount my cs mini catch can. in a secure way so it wont bounce and rattle. any suggestions would be great. because the damn thing has no mounting brackets. i was going to mount it on the strut tower with zip ties but that seemed way to flimsy.

funny u shoudl ask that i was wondering the best spot to mount mine since i have the exact same one. i came up with a simple a cheap solution. i had a local machine shop weld an L bracket onto it and i put a hole through the side of the L that was perpendicular to the catch can. i put a bolt through that hole and a nut on the other side and went straight through one of the holes in teh front of the valve cover where the wires go across. i can take pics if you want but i think it looks great there

I like the To4B style, because you can then run a nice 3" intake to mate up with a Z32 or Cobra MAF. Remember, the colder air, and more air you can suck in, the better. Not saying the small style wouldn't work, but I would much rather have some sort of WAI or CAI with a nice big filter on the end, and no bottlenecks.

Definatly do not zip tie to the strut brace...that would look very halfassed sort to speak.

There has got to be a way you get an L bracket on there. Maybe high strength epoxy with an L bracket? Maybe braze it on there?

my piping pro intake is pretty large. for the intake. and my apexi suction filter is huge.

yeah. no in my little town there is no aluminum welders.............

i am not planing on zip ties that was just going to be my last resort. or at least to hold it there while i start it. because i wont be driving it for a while.

i agree with cody. there has to be some way you can safely get an L bracket on it. if it wouldnt be so much of a hassle for ya i'd tell you to send it to me an di'd send it back with the L bracket on. maybe there is some shop that can weld it nearby that you dont know about

yeah. i have jb weld and that works wonders. so might do something with that. you would think they would weld brackets on it when they make them but no. lol i wont be driving the car for a while so at least right now i can do a temp set up. i want to get my baby fired up. should be able to friday. after i get a piece of metal to make a custom throttle bracket.

i might even be able to order my wheels this month. but i will probably hold of on them.

i went and looked at tires yesterday. and fedral 595s are pretty nice. i really want to go 275 in the back and 245 in the front. or possible 235 up front. so i can drop the front a little more then the bac. i wnt be going very low on the back wit hthat big of tire fit under there but we will see.

well kind a an update. we were going to start it up last night. but i slid under the car to install the oil temp sensor and low and behold the bung my dad welded on i tol him to put it on the diagonal corner but no he put it on the back of the oil pan. so it goes right against so i end up having to drop the oil pan again. and take power steering lines off and going have to try to get the gasket to work still. kinda frustrating thing to do.
