Wow, it's crazy.. those two are so alike.. It's almost like Toyota and Subaru worked together to make them.

Reminds me of the Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix.. only these two are even more alike and a million times better.

Coincidentally, the driver of the black FRS in the Ken Gushi video above drives a really nice S14 and goes to my local meet. Small world.
So... Anyone seen the Super GT BRZ? :naughty:

The BRZ looks like a pretty cool car from Toyota/Subaru. It has some really great features, low CG, good balance, nice factory wheels. I am disappointed that it looks a lot like a Hyundai Genesis, and IT DOESN'T HAVE A TURBO!!!! Seriously, WTF Subaru? It's a two wheel drive well balanced Impreza coupe. Had they put a turbo on it, I would have not bought the Mercedes, and held out for the BRZ. No turbo, piss up a rope.

I really hope you take a lot of pictures and write up an article that convinces me that the car is worthy even without the turbo.

They'll probably sell every one they make even without a turbo option. Its a badass car. A breath of fresh air for sure.

I believe they have alluded to a turbo version coming down the pipe in the future. I'm sure it will be amazing.. but I'm sure the price will be very high as well. The WRX is $26k to $28k, but the STI is $34k to $37k if my memory serves. So I would assume that if they charge an extra $8k for the STI version there, then they might be just as much more for the BRZ STI version.

I'm thinking the stock BRZ will be fun for a while, then maybe I'll look into a turbo kit or supercharger and some dished pistons to lower compression. I'm sure there will be a few kits out there within the first 6 months.

The extra $8k charge for the STI over the WRX is mostly the difference in the transmission. The 6 speed transmission is almost $8k new with the dccd controller. If it was a 5 speed turbo, I would expect it to be a tad bit cheaper than a wrx.

Never heard this before, but now that I have a mental picture, I have to start using it on people :rotfl

I think of the BRZ as a "premium" FRS.

And like you, I like the BRZ better because its a subie :gapteeth:

It's been a while since I've posted any updates.. Sorry.

Pricing came out during the NY auto show. $26,200 or so for the Premium with 6 spd trans. +1100 or so with automatic and about $2k higher for limited version.

My invoice price is just a shade over $25,000. Technically I could back out based on my contract, but I'm not going to do that.

As for delivery... that's the big topic of conversation right now.. Lots of speculation on numerous BRZ related websites.. sounds like there may have been some cars already delivered to some ports on the west coast. What is unknown is whether those are customer cars or dealer demo models.. Also unknown if they are going to be released to dealership right away or if they have to sit for a while to make a more uniform release.

Scion has been more forthcoming with info. They have already confirmed that a number of cars are stateside.. The "First 86" group is supposed to deliver to buyers within the next couple weeks.. first one is May 3rd with the rest coming around the 15th. June 1 is nationwide release date for the Scion.

Subaru has been saying "MAY".. being very ambiguous about it. My salesman has told me exactly that. In theory I should get one of the first shipment cars, but probably a week later than the west coast group due to shipping time.

There is a slim chance that I may get it in the first half of May, but I think most likely it will be the second half of the month.

I still have no info on accessories from my dealer. I would probably go with the auto-dimming mirror, but I don't want to delay my delivery by too many days either. The spoiler, front underspoiler, rear valance, and most other accessories are way overpriced.. I'm not spending $700 on rear valance when I'll be able to get one off ebay for $200 shipped in a month or two. Sorry.. it's just a piece of plastic.. same goes with the front lip... not spending $700 for something that I'm just going to scrape on the ground when I go into a parking lot.

Will post an update as soon as I hear something from my dealer.. Rumor is that they will see them on their inventory lists very soon, and when they do, they will have a delivery estimate that is usually within a day plus or minus.

For what it's worth.. I still would rather have a Nissan.. but I can't do the 370z because it has no back seat for my little boys to sit in. I can't do the G because it's just too expensive.

Lots of rumors flying about a entry level RWD coupe from Nissan to compete with the BRZ/FRS... We're going to open up a new NICO forum for that topic soon... so keep an eye out for that.
I assume that if they do it.. it will be at least 3 years until it hits the market. So, I may be ready for an "upgrade" to a new Nissan when they are ready.

You should just buy it at 26 and flip it for 30k and get that G.

I would do that actually.. If someone offered me $3,000 to $4,000 over what I paid, I would definitely sell it. The sad part is that I would lose a bunch of the profit on sales tax.. which sucks... But I'd take profit on a car anytime I could get it.

The other problem is that the G is in the low $40's.. Granted it's a much nicer car... but I wouldn't want $700 a month payments.

Yeah but the G isn't brand new. You've got multiple years from the past that you can choose from.

I haven't gotten an insurance quote yet, but I'm very 'low risk".. 34, married, two kids, excellent credit, multiple policies, perfect driving record, etc.. So I'm not too worried about it.

I am bummed that the car won't be here for Carlisle. I know that was a big-time long-shot.. But it would have been really fun!

Oh well..

Yes, I'll be there.. but not exclusively.. I'll be back and forth between Carlisle and State College. I got lucky and the golf team my wife is covering that weekend is at Penn State for NCAA tournament. She has to work until about 4 on Friday, so I can leave the kids there and make Carlisle by 6 or so. But I have to drive back up there late that night. Then for Sat. I'll have to bring the boys with me for the day. Then Sunday I should be able to be there for most of the day.

Well, your kids are well behaved and seem to enjoy themselves around the cars and such, so I'm sure it'll be fun!

yeah.. we'll do fine. Isaac is loads better now that he's 3 and a half.. Much more compliant and can stand still for a full 30 seconds if you ask him to.. :)

I won't be very helpful with them around.. I'll have to watch them rather than doing corner work or tech for cars.. but I can probably work the tent and still keep an eye on them.

I'll be there Friday without them, so I'll at least have fun that night.

I bet even the fatty Z32 can turn better. :chuckle:
I am late to the party but anyway. :chuckle:

Mustangs blow they can't turn for crap. Straight line only cars.

The Z32 may be a little heavy but it is super comfy/classy and it has technology to back up its weight... Even in present day.

Can't wait to see the car...

Hopefully I can make some more meets since I can't afford season football this year. But work will be slammed until the end of the years, so not sure I can get off.
