Back in September, Chris. It's a pretty awesome car in really good shape. Exterior is in excellent condition, interior in good to excellent (usual wear to driver's seat, but no cracking). Only problem is rough starting, not sure why. Paid $12 out the door, with 110k on it. I've put another 10k on it. Just did the plugs last weekend.

Hey stranger!!! Nice to see you post on NICO again! I've been following your military exploits and your family stuff on Facebook.. nice work buddy.. I'm proud of you!

Yes.. I would love this car even more if Nissan made it.. but with Nissan's current lineup of sub 30k cars.. YUCK.. So I had to go Subaru. I did consider the Scion version of this, but I'm not a fan of the cosmetic differences in the scion, plus I really like the HID's and indash Nav that come on the Suby.. Should be interesting to see the price difference though..

Thanks, Seth. School's finally wrapping up here, heading to take over my first platoon in a few weeks. We'll see if I have more free time or not...

I hear ya' on Nissan. They've been making some interesting decisions lately.

And your point being what?

Nissan did the same thing with the GT-R and look how well that thing performs stock? The R33 was the first to break the 8 minute barrier for a production car around the Ring. Only 276HP and weighed just as much.

The R32-R34 were all heavy due to the all wheel drive system, but they still performed beautifully, even in stock trim.

Oh...and one more thing.

I have a pretty reliable source that tells me Nissan here in Japan has something planned for the subcompact/compact market.

If I can get more info on that, I will.

Quick someone slap a S16 badge on it.
From what I've read, it's more Subaru's car than theirs except for the direct injection system (then again doesn't Toyota own a portion of Subaru now?). The FRS is a little bit nicer looking though.

If only the Miata had a hatch back version. I could carry my race tires more easily. Sigh.

Mazda is working on their new Miata.. supposedly 2014 we'll get it.

I thought you were getting the Rally Blue color, decided to go with the grey instead. Looks great in that picture. I really hope this car sells well enough, the more manufacturers that get back into the lightweight rwd market the better. Keep us posted!

MMHMMMMMM Pretty, love the angry looking front face, less angular than the Scion version as well. Plus there's something just right about a Subbie in that color.

But you might be missing out on this:

From Jalopnik: http://jalopnik.com/5890002/first-86-sc ... -treatment

First 86 Scion FR-S Buyers Get The Royal Treatment
The first 86 Scion FR-S buyers are getting all sorts of special perks, as we were first to report. We just didn't know what the perks were until now. If you're not one of the first 86 buyers you may not want to keep reading.
In addition to being able to boast about being one of the first Scion FR-S owners in America, which is already cool even if you were just lucky, there's an all-expenses-paid trip to Long Beach, California this April.

Why would you want to go to Long Beach in April? Why, for Formula Drift of course. All owners (and their guests) will get front-row seats for the show. There's also a tour of the Toyota Motor Sports National HQ and the Toyota Automobile Museum.

Frankly, we wish more automakers would do this. Scion has no enthusiast history in this country, but Toyota does and they're smartly building on that foundation.

There's also dinner with Scion VP Jack Hollis where you'll be able to ask him any question you want. Any in the world. Like what he puts in his hair. He must use a lot of product. How else does he get it to stand up straight like an anime character?

Ok, so it doesn't technically say that in the invitation. But he's always answered our questions in the past. You should ask. Just don't blame us if you end up with a purple automatic FR-S. That's on you.

DORIFTO!

It's pretty damn decent looking for a modern car. Especially for a modern Subaru. Overall it's pretty clean and straightforward, but it's got some aggressiveness to it.

The 2012 V6 Genesis will come with 350hp.

Also, I can't wait to find out how pleased you are when you get it. Any idea on when they take delivery?

All things aside, unless you're out there every weekend, hunting for seconds, scratching your head on how to find time and struggling for dominance over your class, fretting about a couple hundred pounds on a car is silly. It'd be like worrying that you cannot take a zero-g crap in your bathroom even though your house isn't blasting off to the Moon.

Unless it has a savage effect on gas mileage, you shouldn't worry about weight numbers in the least for a DD. If you like the Hyundai, get it, like wise for the Subaru, but letting weight be the slightest factor is ridiculous.

I disagree.. 600 pounds is something you notice.

If it were 100 or maybe 200 pounds then I would agree with you.

I like both cars.. the new Gen Coupe is sharp, well built, and I'm sure it performs really nicely.
I also thought a lot about used vette's, M3's, 350z's, and a few other options..

But I fell in love with the BRZ.. The exterior design is a big part of it.. it's just beautiful! I love the lines!
My only wish is that it had more hp.. but still.. 200 isn't too shabby for a car of it's size.

200hp would be fine with me, as long as it handles like they are hyping it up. I think you'll enjoy the heck out of it and the Genesis is way too overpriced, even used IMHO. I can get a nice used G37 for the cost of a used Genesis 2.0 Coupe, now why would I buy the Genesis in that equation?

Nissan is bringing back the Datsun badge... maybe we can pretend that Datsun will be Nissan's Scion...

Luxo - Bland Commuter - Sporty*/Trendy

Lexus - Toyota - Scion

Infiniti - Nissan - Datsun? Then we can all look forward to the 2014 Datsun S, and 2014 Datsun 510

Datsun isn't going to be sold in the US, the new models will only be sold overseas and all of then will be dirt cheap economy cars.

Its not even just about the difference in weight. The BRZ/FRS flat-4 sits low giving a lower center of gravity. That helps a lot with the dynamics of the vehicle. At the very least, it made the engineers' jobs easier to reach a performance benchmark.

Sorry for all of the Genesis talk, but I see them every day. They just gave the Genesis a facelift and the interior got a revamp. It looks awesome. Not as awesome as the BRZ though! If they're going to make it as exclusive as it sounds, you should really hang on to that thing. Might be worth some coin someday.

the genesis is over priced for what it is, if it was about 5-7k cheaper id say you have a really good bang for your buck. For the same amount of money your in C5, C6, M3, G35, 350z territory, and my god the genesis is FUGLY :barf:

just get the BRZ, dont think twice about it

Prices never translate like that. A lot of things are more expensive in Great Britain than the US. For instance, brand new video games go for the equivalent of 78USD in Britain. Car prices are the same. A Mazda 3 starts at $15k or £14k. Mazda 6 starts at £17k or $20k (not exactly comparable models, though...they get a 5-door and we get a sedan with a trunk). A new Civic starts at $15k or £16k.

You don't just convert pounds to dollars and end up with the sale price for the US.
