Wow, this car will surely turn heads in your area. I just saw a stock scion fr-s at cars and coffee in ultra blue(?) and I think I'm in love with these things.
Got a video, is it cool to post it? Don't wanna jack but it's also on my "cars and coffee" thread.

Hope all the details work out and you get the car.

According to this it is set for 25,000 pounds...That is close to 40K USA / CAD.
This is a better yardstick if you want to start guessing at pricing.

Subaru reps have been saying "mid $20's". There has been some fear recently about it being more like high 20's. But, I have a hard time believing they would price a rwd coupe with 200 HP above the wrx.. an awd 265 HP car. The wrx is $25.5 or so...

Prices never translate like that. A lot of things are more expensive in Great Britain than the US. For instance, brand new video games go for the equivalent of 78USD in Britain. Car prices are the same. A Mazda 3 starts at $15k or £14k. Mazda 6 starts at £17k or $20k (not exactly comparable models, though...they get a 5-door and we get a sedan with a trunk). A new Civic starts at $15k or £16k.

You don't just convert pounds to dollars and end up with the sale price for the US.

Good Point. I never knew that. Now i feel sorry for the poor brits! That is a hell of a mark up!

Yes.

I sold my other car just last week..

In theory, I should have my BRZ sometime in early May. Still waiting on a price, but still assuming it will be around $25k for the premium manual trans. Of course, there's always hope it will be a little less than that.

Hopefully when I graduate, the BRZ will have an STi version and aftermarket support will be well established.

I've fallen in love with this thing.

Nice nice. You'll definitely have to write a review or something. This probably one of the most exciting cars (for me) to come out since 1991.

FRS pricing surfaced today.. $24,200 plus destination = $24,9XX

It's about $1,000 higher than I expected.. I think a little too high.

I'm now worried that they are going to be over $26k for the BRZ premium manual and nearly $30k for the limited. That's getting into 370z territory and I think a bad value.

I'd prefer a mustang gt at that price.

I don't prefer a mustang.. I'm not much of a muscle car fan..

But you could find a lot of very nice cars (new or used) for less than $26k..

We'll see what Suby decides to do with this car. I still have a great advantage in that I have a contract to buy at invoice price.. but even still, if they start the car at something crazy like $27k, I'll still be over $25.5 and I'm not sure I'm down with that price.

Mustangs are not, and never were, musclecars. They're Pony cars. Very different. :)

^ it's all semantics.. Big motor, long wheelbase, fast in a straight line, doesn't turn very well...

not my style!

I dig a smaller, quicker, lighter, more agile car.

I've had 3 Mustangs and while I did enjoy them, I prefer agility over straight line speed.

I understand what you're getting at and generally agree.

Musclecars were average family cars with the biggest motor available crammed in them.
Pony cars were designed from the ground-up to be sports cars. Well, except the Mustang II. That was a Pinto with a nose job and 90:10 weight distribution.

I'd still rather have a Mustang or Camaro. The new ones aren't what the old ones were. Mustangs turn just as well as anything Japan makes, and that's with ancient suspension tech and 3600lb curb weight. The interior sucks pretty bad though. That dash is inexcusable.

Also:
BRZ 3.0 R please. Thanks. EZ30 belongs in something other than the fargon Trifailure.

Well, lets not go that far.
My friend's Mustang is pretty lame in the corners compared to my S13.
I bet even the fatty Z32 can turn better. :chuckle:

Mustangs are designed to be driven by heavy footed drivers with minimal formal experience. It behaves best under heavy braking, and heavy accel. When you brake heavily the weight transfer makes the car snap around the corner by creating manageable oversteer. When you throttle out of the corner, then weight transfers back and creates some understeer to get you moving to the outside. The problem with this being, if you try to make it stay balanced, it feels awkward. Keep in mind, I haven't driven a Mustang built after 2002, so maybe it has changed, but I doubt it.

Definitely not true. In fact, Mustangs are notorious for their UNDERsteer under braking. They definitely do not behave well (nevermind "best") under heavy braking.

I have been wary of the pricing model they're going with for these coupes... while they're light and nimble... there's a lot of stuff out there that can be had for a couple grand more and all have similar fuel economy and another 100 hp. (Camaro V6, Mustang V6, Genesis V6). To each his own, but if this car was a ~$20,000 car they would have nailed it out of the park.

One irksome thing I have thought about today... WTF is up with Subaru's inventory? You can't find a base model (read: non-STi) WRX within 500 miles of north AL ... they're only bringing 6000 of these things to the states, and they're having the dealers tell prospective WRX buyers that the only way you can drive on is to pay them a $500 "deposit" to have them ship one in from another dealer. (This happened at a Subaru dealer in Huntsville, AL today to one of my friends who is in the market for a WRX). Was Subaru highly impacted by the tsunami last year, or did I miss something? There are more 370Zs in the lot at the local Nissan dealer than there are Imprezas of any trim at the local Subaru dealer.
