I'm gonna call you Chad the Grouch from now on.. You need to get out of your garbage can and cheer up.. Surely you can find a weekend off in Sept for TOTD. You live close enough..

How about Atlanta? I don't think I'm going to that one this year.. but you never know..

Keep seeing an orange scion frs at cars and coffee and my wife keeps asking why I stare at the damn car every time. We were scoping the very tidy engine bay and I explained its rwd and she just "oh now I get it."
Supremely jealous right now.

LMFAO! This is a monstrously ignorant statement, you do not know what you're talking about.

Above is Sam Strano on his way to winning his 7th National Championship driving a stock class Mustang. Sam routinely crushes me in pax every time I run against him.

The latest revision GT handles quite well. Light weight, well balanced. Like the Corvette, it's "simple" and "archaic" suspension setup is extremely well honed and not the hindrance people make it out to be.
Simple = light, cheap, and durable.

'05-'09 V6 models understeered like mercury on teflon, though. Was genuinely scary. But who the Hell buys V6 Mustangs for their performance?

Got an update from my salesguy today.

He said they updated his inventory listing to say that the new ETA is 5/15. He thinks that might be a little too soon, so he said most likely "week of 5/15".

With my luck.. it will come in the Monday after Carlisle is over.. Oh well. I guess that is still better than then end of the month.

I'm sorry but that's a pretty ignorant statement. Did a Mustang rape your mother and kill your father or something?

Better tires on the BRZ would have had it beating the Mustang. Trade the BRZ's stock Michelin Primacy HPs for something like a Bridgestone RE-11/S-04, Dunlop Direzza or Toyo Proxes and we'd be hearing all about a David & Goliath shootout at Willow Springs. The sad thing is that all those tires I listed come in cheaper than the stock Mich's, Bridge S-04's are over $200 cheaper for a set of 4, and the S-04's have a better traction rating and higher treadwear number! You sure do pay a lot for the funny looking fat guy.

Stock for stock, better tires on the BRZ, I really can't see it beating a 2012 Mustang on a road course. It has half the horsepower and the Mustang handles pretty well.

I think with wider and stickier tires the BRZ would make up more than 1.5 seconds on the track that the video comparison was filmed on.

On a longer course, the mustangs hp would win out. On a shorter course the BRZ's handling would win out.

If the BRZ had 307 hp it would crush the mustang. Give me a couple years..

You need to pay closer attention, PapaSmurf already mentioned V6, and in case you missed that the vid also establishes the specs for both cars early on showing that the Mustang is not the GT with the V8.

Absolutely! :yesnod It's amazing to me how often people underestimate the effect a quality tire can have on a car's performance.

Another tire option to consider if your BRZ is going to see lower temps is Bridgestone's 970AS, or Conti's Extreme DWS, both still cheaper than the Michelins that come stock on the BRZ.

Agreed!!

One thing to note.. the BRZ isn't turbo as mentioned in the graphic above.. they corrected the error with a little popup graphic in the video.

I'm looking for some opinions on wheel fitment.. The stock wheels fit poorly.. they are clearly not a great fit for a rwd car.

Image

Those rear wheels are sunken terribly.

I have a set of Gramlights from my old S14. I think they would be great on this car.. though I'm worried thay are too wide and will actually stick out too far. Plus, I have to get adapters to convert from 5x100 to 5x114.3 (stupid subaru!).

Here's the measurements:
Converting from the stock 17x7 +48mm wheel to a 18x9.5 +22 wheel changes the the inner clearance by 6mm less and the outer clearance by 58mm more.

Converting the front wheels from the same 7" +48 to a 8.5" +30 gives 1mm less inner clearance and 37mm more outer clearance.

Now.. that would be assuming I could fit the wheels direct to the hub.. . But, I cannot. I will need 5x100 to 5x114.3 adapters. That will add another 19mm (thinnest I could find).

So when you add the 19mm to the equation you get +13mm inner in the rear and + 18mm inner in the front.. clearly this is not a problem!

However, the outer clearance does move out quite a bit.

The 37mm front changes to 56mm and the 58mm in the rear changes to 77mm.

Now.. those sound like really big numbers to me, but I don't use mm often, so when converted inches it doesn't sound so bad.

56mm is 2.2 inches.

77mm is 3.0 inches.

So, anyone have any opinions for me.. Can I move out the outer clearance of these wheels by 2.2" in front and 3.0" in the rear and still have it look good (flush) and not rub fenders when the suspension is compressed?

This is all assuming the same as stock square tire geometry as well.. I could certainly stretch the tires a little.. though I dislike the rubber band stretched, high camber craze very much!

Stretched tires will look ugly with that wheel gap.
When you get the car, measure how far you can put the wheel out, then you'll know how much space you have the play with.
Doesn't look like 3 inches worth of space though.

That was my bad, I just assume if anyone's buying a Mustang they're not going to waste their money on a V6, especially when you can get a brand new GT for $25,000.

My car is in Chicago now. Just off-loaded from a train. I'm hoping they get it on a truck and get it to the dealership by Sat. But, I'm not holding my breath.. Most likely will arrive mid next week.

Those two pieces push on each other so the door isn't just floating there.
Not quite sure how effective that is in doing anything useful for the chassis.
