root_locus wrote:Hi everyone I have a simple question about my brakes, I have a 1989 240sx.
I noticed an odd smell coming from my rear passenger tire, and the next day there was a grinding sound from the brakes. So I put the car up on jack stands, pulled the rear tires off, put the car in first gear and slowly let the clutch out and saw that the rear passenger rotor was struggling to rotate. Next, I took the caliper bolts out and took a look at the pads and not surprisingly one of the pads was completely gone. Here is some pictures:
I do not understand why the outer pad is completely gone while the inner still has lots of pad left, I would have expected the opposite to occur. Also, the piston has rips in the rubber seal around it.
My question is if this warrants replacing the caliper (and pads obviously must be replaced).
Thank you for any replies!
Yeah man, replace that caliper. Don't forget to pick up brake fluid, cos you will have to bleed your brakes.
