wrong supports? I've never heard of such a thing... I know a few people running a chuki front on a 89-90 with no problems about the "support"...

do you have any pics of the droop?

alright fellows this past weekend i removed my timing chain guides and put it all back together execpt my timing is a little off (runs sluggish, slower, hesitant) so i have 2 questions:

1. is buying a timing light really worth it or should i just get #1 cylinder on TDC and rotor on spark plug # 1 and keep trying til i get it?

2. if the problem is not my timing then what else could it be?

thanks -chris

did u ever take ur chain off??? and yea i guess u can keep trying if u are on a budget, a timing light would help, but i don't recommend u buy it so u don't waste ur money find somebody to let u borrow one, if not i guess u could buy one, it will be the easiest way to find out if timing is your problem, and if u wanna throw some money on a timing light, go to sears and get an advance inductive timing light, but yeah it will be a lot easier with a timing light

Hey guys, maybe you'd be willing to help a poor noob who is starting to love cars these days and wants to buy a 240sx.Eventually I would love to learn how to drift and what not, and by that i mean not go out right now and try it, i would love to learn how.

Anyway, Im looking at buying a 97 240sx SE thats been switched from Auto to Manual, first off I was wondering if this was a good Idea, as of right now its stock everything. I am very serious about buying a 240 and I have thought about for about 2 months now, asking "Do i really want to, yadda yadda yadda?"

Second off, I was wondering how much im looking at spending to get it good and ready to start to learn, Like i know an SR20Det is a great start to re-build the car. but i would love to know what else i should use to help out.

If there is a site that you could re-direct me to, that tells me everything i basically need to know about this car that would be amazingly awesome. And i would probably love you forever.

"site that you could re-direct me to??? come on man you're on it already. there is a **** load of stuff you can do to a 240 or even a car in general. for starters though when u buy ur car do some maintanence work- spark plugs, wires, oil change etc. and there is a **** load of choices to go with for performance and handling you just have to search this site and might wanna check out zilvia.net or a local 240 site....click on the general forum link and go from there

Yea, maybe he was just full of it then. I don't have any pics of the sag cause I took the bumper off and managed to break some bolts in the process , but it was a good cm and a half droop.

hi everyone, im new here and i have a few questions. im looking at buying a 91 240 sx, it needs a new clutch, a new starter and is eventually going to need a new door because it was in a accident. the guy is looking to sell it for 500 and i was wondering if it would be worth buying at taht price, also how difficult would it be to replace the clutch and the starter on this car?

If it's 5 lug (stock), then it has ABS and a limited slip differential, which would be very good. That is not to say that he didn't change his stock hubs to 5 lug hubs though. Look for an orange sticker on the pumpkin, or even ask the seller if it has a limited slip differential.

The starter will be pretty easy, but the clutch is going to be a pain in the *** if you have never done it before. If you have a mechanic do everything, you are probably looking at about $1000 in parts and labor to get it ship shape (minus the door). The door is a tough call, and you'll be best off calling an autobody shop to get a quote. If you tally it all up, and its still worth it for you, go for it.

you just gotta think......sr's are everywhere in japan and they are americanized when they hit 40,000miles

thanks right now im thinking i could probably handle replacing the clutch by myself, do you have any recomendations for a new clutch that wouldnt break the bank yet still give better tahn stock performance? also does anyone know how much it would cost to have a flywheel resurfaced?

Newb here! So after reading about 15 pages on this thread hoping not to find a duplicate question I will just ask it. I just swapped an S14 SR20DET into my 95. On startup it idles fine. But 75% of the time if I rev it a little or alot I get 2 seconds of an unnerving rattle. It only happens for those 2 seconds and never comes back unless I shut it off and let it sit for a few hours. It sounds more like top end rather than bottom. I have read a few times about the variable valve timing actuator ticking but not sure if this is it. I put a vid on youtube where you can hear it!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3AXp5R34MY

Any ideas? Should I not drive it or what? A small part of me thinks bottom end or piston slap... but I don't want to think about it unless I have too!

EDIT: Even if I let it idle and reach operating temp it still does it... What is lacking oil press on start?

back in the day, when I did my clutch, it cost me $30 to get my flywheel resurfaced. Figure inflation and the fact that everything has gotten more expensive, and bet on it costing $80 or more.As for a clutch, I got a centerforce dual friction and have 0 complaints.

Resurfacing costs are mostly dependant on who you know and where you go. The past few times I've needed a flywheel resurfaced, I've just done it myself with acceptable results. If you've got a friend in a machine shop, you might get it done for a few beers. I'm not sure about going rate, unfortunately.

As far as a clutch, you might try the White Bunny setup. If you can junkyard the flywheel, you ought to be able to make it out pretty cheap.

That should work fine. I have also heard of some people running like 80w140 in both.

Sry nother dumb question from me...So I got the nismo clutch pedal bracket and I was told that the piece that holds the clutch safety switch thing isnt there. I was wondering if i could put the one from my old bracket to the nismo one. Its not a problem to bypass it all together but i would rather keep it if i had a choice just for safety.

Oh and another dumb question but... to bypass the ASCD and clutch safety do you just unplug them?

Well, if memory serves me correctly, the clutch switch is normally open, so you would actually have to take the 2 sides of wires and put them together to bypass the switch. If you want to keep the switch, Maybe you can drill a hole in the new bracket, or weld a piece on??? I dunno, I've never even heard of a nismo clutch pedal bracket. What is so much better about it over stock?

New 240 owner here. I just bought a '93 coupe, and today I took off the rear speaker deck. I was just wondering what the vents on the rear deck were for? I am planning on building a custom rear deck out of wood (instead of the crappy cardboard Nissan used), and I was wondering if the vents are needed, or if they're just so that if someone gets trapped in the trunk they'll have air to breath...

Someone please let me know what those vents are for!

Are you talking about the vents over the speakers, or some other vents? Do you have any pics?

Hello once again Nico-ians?

I am not new and have had a 240 for years. However, there is one thing I haven't been able to track down.

On the bottom driver's side trim, right where your knees would be, there is a cut out for what appears to be a light. Likewise, there is one on the passenger side kick panel. I heard a rumor these were courtesy lights / floor lights (what are they technically called anyway?) for the special editions.

Be this true?Anyone got any pics? I've been thinking about adding them to my hatch for fun.

Thanks guys!

No, not the speaker covers, they're the vents that are almost right up against the windows, behind the speakers. I don't have any pics, but I'll try to get some today.

Oh Ok, I think I know what you are talking about. They are probably just for some sort of ventalation purposes. Maybe something to do with keeping the rear window unfoggy? I wouldn't worry too much if they were covered up.
