My grandparents had a real tree every year growing up. I think a big part of it is the smell. You would probable say the same thing about real fire places, but I love them too. A fake Christmas tree, like a fake fireplace, can never bring the same warmth to a room that the real things can. Insects are easy to control, they make a spray that you put on before decorating. As for cleanup, a quick vacuum once a day is really not that tough, to me its worth it. As for the fire hazard, low heat LED lighting pretty much covers that. As long as your house wasn't built in 1876 I wouldn't imagine them being high risk.
I guess I just like that sort of thing. Given the choice, I would live in an old cabin in the woods over an apartment in the city any day of the week, its just who I am.
