EXPLAIN PLZRazi wrote:I dunno how restrictive the stock intake is on a Mazda 3 but anyways, most "Cold Air" intakes aren't true cold air intakes.
I think a cone or drop in filter is just fine for non-turbo 4 cylinders.
Most cold air intakes from these companies leave the cone filter where the stock air box would be, leaving it to suck in the warm air inside the engine bay.krimsonviper wrote: EXPLAIN PLZ
Most of the parts were used on riding lawn mowers, others were used for panels for air purifiers.AppleBonker wrote:Molding plastic for what use? Could be a different grade of ABS. Of probably about 15 different auto parts manufacturing facilities I toured for work, only one used primer on their ABS parts (mostly because their process sucked). All the rest of the places tried to avoid primer like the plague. The coatings cost far more than the plastic, so if they could get away with not using it, they would.
I'll have to check where my stock filter is, but I know the Corksport SRI and single exhaust frees up a good number of ponies with a dyno sheet to show. I'm looking for the thread now...Razi wrote:Most cold air intakes from these companies leave the cone filter where the stock air box would be, leaving it to suck in the warm air inside the engine bay.
That's not a cold air intake, get a cone filter for your car, it'll end up doing the same thing as a $100 piece of pipe.
I'd rather get a drop in filter though, most factory airboxes these days have a pipe that leads to the outside of the engine bay so it actually sucks in cold air.
If you get a drop in filter, more flow than a stock filter, and actual cold air! Win!
On second thought, keep looking. price is too high. http://www.kbb.com/kbb/UsedCars/Pricing ... h=Trade-In[/quote]nissangirl74 wrote:Gee, that looks familiar. DO EET

We're still working with the intake on this one to get the most out of it while retaining factory fuel trims. The 2.0L results were moderate (with around a 4-5hp/tq gain) below 4000rpm with the majority of the gains came on rapidly at around 4500rpm and held steadily to the 7000rpm redline. This really shows how constrained the stock system was for the smaller 2.0L engine.
There is a lengthy article on CAI's here somewhere. I'll see if I can find it...What company it's coming from has a lot to do with it's price: Injen.

Corksport wrote:The dyno results on this combination of intake and exhaust were equally as impressive, but dynamically speaking were a bit different from the 2.0L. Where the 2.0L opened up quite a bit at the top end, the stump pulling 2.5L exhibited up to 20lbft of torque gains in the midrange with a consistent 10-12hp gain through the entire powerband. Stock Peak HP & Torque were 158/161, and the intake and exhaust built 171hp and 171lbft of torque.

Sweet! Let me know, I need to read up on this if I decide to make a purchase on an intake at any point in life or give info out. :fistpumping:Beancooker wrote:There is a lengthy article on CAI's here somewhere. I'll see if I can find it...

If I really wanted to tune my car, I would take full advantage of not having to smog new vehicles their first 5 years and cut out all of my exhaust restrictions.AZ89two4Tsx wrote:Those are decent numbers for an intake an exhaust. Make sure to look at the conditions though. This was at 72 degrees, pretty optimal conditions.
I myself would go to a muffler shop for the exhaust as it would be basically the same thing. Especially in CA where you don't have to worry about rust.
As far as the intake, it depends. How restrictive is the Mazda 3 factory one? As Razi said, most newer cars have pretty decent intake designs.
