Actual (not estimated) mileage for 2007: (cut from spreadsheet)

Summary Fuel Used 306.3 gallons2007 Fuel Cost $849.57 Odo. Begin 40 Odo. End 8423 Total Miles 8383 Highest Gas $ 3.13 Lowest Gas $ 2.57 Ave. Gas $ 2.79 Ave. mpg 27.4

For 2008 so far: I have been averaging 28.6 mpg. I have noticed a jump in fuel economy when the odometer reached 9300 miles. The last six tanks have been averaging 29.6 with four of the tanks above 30 mpg. Is it finally broken in?

Versa S with 4 speed auto. Mostly around town driving with an eye and foot geared towards fuel economy.

Hi all versa owners,

new here. i have a 07 6 speed manual versa S, with abs. during the summer and fall i have been getting around 25-27 mpg, and now its only about 20 mpg. it has been the winter and so far we have had a pretty harsh winter here. lots of ice and snow? but i was wondering if you all had any tips to be more fuel efficient? i have been baffled. i made sure my tires were properly inflated. i have Conti Procontact Tires.

anything would help, driving tips, at what rpm you switch gears, also information on how the weather affects mpg would also be helpful.

thanks

When I first started driving and did jack-rabbit starts and drove like a bat out of hell I got as low as 25mpg. But now that I've stopped doing that I can get at least 30mpg on my 66mile drive to school. But that's over GA's incredibly hill terrain. If I lived somewhere flat I could probably get much higher than that. I normally drive @ around 2 or 2.5 rpm.

Tips:

Keep it at 2k RPM as much as possible while accelerating.

DON'T do jack rabbit starts off the light.

Try not to tail-gate people. The more you do that, the more you need to hit your breaks, and the more you'll use getting back up to speed.

Don't speed to much. Besides, there is no reason to speed anyway. The only way you can get where you're going any significant amount of time faster is if you do twice the speed limit.

We've gotten everywhere from 35mpg (all highway/freeway), 33mpg mixed, down to 20mpg (husband warming up car for 15 minutes before driving 3 minles to work every morning..I put a stop to that).

Typical mileage seems to be around 27-33 if we're driving normally and not doing stupid **** like gunning it around corners and warming it up all morning. I am happy with the mileage and feel like I got what I expected. It gets better mileage than my G20 did and feels like it's got more power while doing it.

Winter driving here in Pittsburgh is horrible. I get about 23 miles per gallon with 90% being city driving. This is a far cry from the 28 or so I got during the summer. As far as highway miles I get 30-32 miles per gallon.

How sad is it that my last tank came up 25.8 and I was *very* happy with that compared to what I usually get?

It's only one tank strictly on the road . . . but I hit 30 mpg US (I think) and I'm ecstatic.

It is sad.

I have a CVT 08 and can't keep it at 2k for anything basically. Unless I'm doing like 20 mph.

I hit 30 mpg once with cruise control on for 200 miles, but in general even with mostly highway driving I barely average 25 mpg.

MPG = Miles per gallon. Take the number of miles on your trip odometer, divide it by the number of gallons you put into it.

300 miles / 10 gallons = 30 MPG.

Or, if you want to get more accurate/picky... 304.2 miles / 9.98 gallons = 30.48 mpg

I use a spreadsheet to track my fuel economy. It gives both individual tank figures and lifetime fuel economy.

As for type of gas... just use 87 octane. Higher octane fuels will give you no added benefit, and MAY actually DECREASE your fuel efficiency. As for brand, some people will say it matters, some will say it doesn't. If you use "discount" fuels, you'll want to periodically run a can of fuel injector cleaner through your system to keep it as clean as possible.

Since I started tracking my MPG I average 29mpg. The Highest I've gotten is 34.9 and the worst is 22.3 (but that included a lot of sitting in the car to enjoy the nice AC). I use https://www.fueleconomy.gov/mp...arage to keep track of my mileage. A simply on-line site that keeps me from having to go to the work of setting up my own spreadsheet.

I drove a highway trip yesterday of over 400 miles and I was able to get 39 mpg with our V. We drove 55-65mph for the most part. I was quite pleased.

Well, it was 32 MPG US, 39 IMP. So I got promised . . . er . . . estimated mileage for city driving on the highway. But it's an improvement.

two days ago i filled my V up and drove it for 3 days .. city driving.. and i set the trip meter to 0when i reached 100 km .. i went into the gas station and told him to fill it up.. i got the numbers of the display and he filled it up with only 7.2 letersso thats 7.2 l/100 kmdoing the math it is 275 km per tank (20 letes) and for us standards that is 32.6 mpg...

i ended up paying 6$ for the 7.2 leters

My gas mileage is about to go up in a hurry. Our son is having surgery at Eglin AFB Monday so I'm driving to Florida this weekend and back sometime in the next couple of weeks. I'm looking at about 4,400 highway miles by the time I'm done.

No. It is 13.8 or something like that. Check your manual.

Best of luck on the drive, but wouldn't it be better to fly? Seems like a long haul and gas alone would be around $400 roundtrip.

Ok, It is becoming very clear to me I am able to get 41 to 42.5 mpg every day when i drive my V Avearage speed is about 40 mph

What I'm seeing is that the V's are geared tall and it's easy to get over 40 in city/suburb driving (not to many lights)

Put this car on the highway she'll turn 3000rpm at 60 or so gas mileage falls to barely 35Driving 55 is not much better. The sweet spot for this car is 40-50 mph.

For me that works For many of you that do a fair amount of highway driving you just aren't going to get great mileage especially at 70-80 Engine is turning way to many revs at those speeds. Gas mileage is going to suck

I gotta LOL that you consider the Versa "geared tall".

For those of us who've previously owned B13 Sentras or Infiniti G20s, the Versa is not geared tall AT ALL. At 75mph my G20 did 3750 rpm. Now THAT is high RPM.

I guess it is all where your point of reference is. For me, I was *amazed* at the low freeway RPM in the Versa!

Short notice plane ticket is a lot more than that. Add car rental once I get there. From here to Eglin is 30 hours actual driving time. I know because I drove by there on the way home from our Christmas/New Year trip in the Rendezvous.

I figure about 4 am tomorrow until about 10 pm tomorrow night on the road, cheap hotel out there somewhere, then drive all day Sunday as well. Even if I don't get there Sunday night I can catch a few hours at a rest stop and get there early Monday. If I leave here at 4 tomorrow after getting some decent sleep, I'll have 46 hours to get in 30 hours of actual driving.

On the trip back I have friends in Pensacola, Houston, San Antonio and Tuscon I can stop and visit. It won't be a rush trip coming back.

Having cruise control on the Versa will make it an easier drive, too.

That's one reason I went for the CVT after a lifetime of driving sticks. On the flat, the CVT runs 2000 rpm at 60mph and 2500 at 75mph. The engine's much happier, and so am I!

With 11,000 miles on our V, it has been a mix of gas woes and worries. Our V has always been hard to refill the tank with any consistent accuracy. Fill it up till it clicks off once, squirt it one more time to the next click off and you are now about 1 to 1 1/2 gal short of being actually full.

Next big problem for us has been where the H' is all that gas going so fast. Had it in to the dealership[p last week for them to do a Numbers check on the whole system, plus two road checks, one cold at start up and the other fully warmed up.

The air/fuel mix was right on spec,as were all the other readings...and the MPG's were right were they are consistently ...about 22 MPG...on a 95% highway test trip with a Nissan mechanic at the wheel.

They did replace a fuel vent filter on the gas tank that might have been plugged (had to take off the rear bumper to get at it) but it still fills like it's being drowned...gasping and gurgling, and yet room for another gallon.

I noticed when Consumer Reports did there first MPG on their new Versa tester, it got 21 MPG's on the real world mixed drive test.

I think the Versa would generally do better MPG's if it had a bigger engine and got the RPM's down. The more powerfull Sentra engine in the Versa would probably get better MPGs.

My old 2-Ton Supercharged Buick 3.8 V-6 is turning over at a leisurely 1600 RPMs at freeway speeds, and gets better MPG's than our Versa.

Our Versa is on probation right now, and if after another 10,ooo miles it doesn't get better gas mileage, it's gone.

How much do Versa's weigh? I was looking into them but the mileage is sounding nowhere near what I expected. My old B13 Sentra (91-94) got 43MPG on a 500 mile drive (1 tank! 13.2 gallon tank! And I had a passenger.) and got 30mpg on all city. My B14 (95-2000?) only gets 36MPG HW and about 26 city, but weighs a couple hundred pounds more and is 4 door. Is anyone breaking into the high 30's low 40's with this car?

Oh both my cars are/were 5speeds with the GA16DE (1.6L 110HP/115HP motor)

According to the Versa Specs the SL with CVT weighs 2770 lbs.

Don't know what your old Sentras weighed but probably a few hundred pounds less.

Oh, BTW the Nissan Dealership answer to why my Versa sucks gas was that I had mentioned that I have been using Mobile -1 oil since the first change.

He said they are "telling new owners not to use Synthetic until at least 12,000 miles"

Acording to their theory, my piston rings have not set in as a result using Synthetic-Oil too soon.

So I guess I have killed it with kindness?
