got a garage? paint it inside and plastic wrap around the car to stop dust from entering you spray zone. Also use a couple box fans on the end to get a side draft going on. Not a downdraft booth but will keep overspray moving away from the car. I too was new to body work and paint one time but you sir for your first attempt are very well on your way. I say good sanding choice 1500 grit ftw if metalllics or pearls are getting sprayed. Also use a dryer before the gun,and prep prep prep!

Looks good, i just painted my miata in a barn. Make sure you use a lot of fans when you paint, i only had two and the paint just hung in the air and got over everything. Also use a tack cloth right before you spray the paint. Good luck

Good luck, I painted my car in my garage as well. By myself it took about.... two weeks? (there went my winter vacation..)

Before you start painting soak the ground with water, it will help collect the dust that might be flying around. And make sure you've got all the right safety equipment. Even with the masks and such I almost passed out in the garage I can still remember the smell of the fumes... half a year later...

I also shaved off my antenna on my hatch and the coupe Its not as hard as you think guys.

Oh if you're still lookin for flipup headlight stuff, I've got a big box in the garage from after doing a silvia conversion.

GOOD STUFF!! I did a home paint job about two years ago..no regrets either - except painting it outside. It turned out pretty nice, though. Here's a couple tips before it's too late:1) like neverlift said, use a dryer (air filter) before the gun!!2) always use a sanding block for your prep work! it will not show on primer, but once that shiny new paint gets on there every imperfection gets magnified3) please, use a good dust mask. Get the organic element ones from 3M or a similar quality mask. Your lungs and brain cells are worth more than a paint job : P wear some eye protection and those cheap disposable jumpsuits.

Anyway good luck!

hey duece40sx resize your sig pic, that ish is hugundous.

nice project you got going on there, but you may have problems getting the paint to adhere if you sand teh primer with 1500 grit. the paint needs some roughness to grab on to

There's something about that 2 tone scheme I like. I think it'll look good with several colors using the black like that. Or is that strictly just prep to become all one colour?

to answer a few questions... the roll cage is a safety 21 4-point sprayed cusco blue. the flares are JUN style that I got from RACEONUSA, they have the regular fiberglass and carbon fiber flares that look

painting experience?? well, thats a long story, I have never painted a car with an actual spraygun but, I think I have mastered the ways of the spraycan and I used to shoot gloss on wooden doors at my uncles shop with sprayguns.

bodywork?? BONDO and I go way back, DONT LAUGH!! when I was about 14 or 15 years old I used to do body work on lowrider bikes and soon after I was doing all of the bikes in my club and I developed the art of custom spraycan paint job's DONT LAUGH!! we were winning trophies..

NO WORRIES!! im not gonna paint the car with spraycans, but I am using spraycan primer....
