I can tell you a 7 blade HX35 would spool by 3.5k rpm or less on an RB25 and make at least 450rwhp if you turned the boost up a good amount. The DSM guys are running low 11's at 132mph on the 7 blade, but they are AWD.

Funny you mention the DSM bolt on housing, but I'm a little confused which flange is where. You need the ex housing to bolt up to a mitsu flange on the ex manifold? If so, they do indeed make a very popular housing that comes in .55 a/r and .70 a/r for the holset that bolts up to a stock mitsu manifold. You'd still need a custom downpipe made though.
Wow its like almost 2009 and people are suprised about 1.8L engines can make over 500whp. B16a's and d16z's from honda's have been making upwards of 700-1000+ hp for years, over half a decade actually.

Here is another good thread-http://www.honda-tech.com/show...olset

Awesome thread we have going here. Im planning an hx35 on our daily driven rb20det vert. And an hx52 or hx40 or my upcoming 2jz fastback.

I didn't express suRprise at a 1.8L making that much power, I was surprised a CA18 did. There's not much of a CA following here in Japan, and I'm assuming not in the states either. Not a lot of people spend the time to build them up from what I've seen, but I guess there are some in Europe evidently. CA's also have a lot lower VE than Honda motors.

O yeah, Honda's suck but that thread has some good info in it.

Back on Holsets, Matt, that HX35 compressor and housing I have is an 8 blade. The housing is polished though if you want a spare for cheap

this graph could be the deal maker. its a holset hx35 map. i was looking at the gt2871 or gt3071r but the hx35 def is a better option for me. and at like 1/4 price:

i was only looking to run 32psia at like 2.5, i would have plenty of headroom.dont know how accurate this graph is but

That map is for the smaller 8 blade hx35. The 7 blade is a 60 lb/min turbo, not a 52

The "w" on the end just means it's an internally wastegated (actuated) ex housing.

I know this is not quite what everyone was looking at, but what about an HY35? It is similar in size to a GT30 or 35? I know it does not have the full flow / top-end of an HX35, but that does not matter to me.

I'm looking for something that is.. how do I put this.. a balanced step-up from the stock 25 @ 10#'s. I already have a 40mm ext gate to use. I know the GT30r is supposed to be a very balanced upgrade, but I like Holset.

I'm looking for something that is very "street-able".

Thoughts?

They are, but they are more like a HX35/40 hybrid. Most of them have variable geometry exhaust housing though that you need to figure out how to control. They are normally controlled by the factory ecu, but that's not an option for us obviously. If somebody can figure these things out, that would be the most bad *** thing ever. One of the DSM guys made the ex housing "shut all the way down" and it spooled by 2300rpm! All they way open it's a 25cm housing. Can you imagine a high 600hp turbo that spools by 2300rpm on a 2.0L?

They do make a few that aren't variable geometry BTW, but I think they aren't twin scroll.

If you can figure out how to make it work, sure. It's some pretty high end DIY stuff though. I think somebody was trying to use a boost controller actuator to change the a/r ratio. I guess it's all how brave you are. I might eventually try it.

Anvil, contact me about this variable exhaust housing turbo. I may be willing to do some sort of trade with the injectors for a turbo.

I am not afraid of blowing up my RB. Is that wrong?

Well, truth be told I was getting kinda bored. d!ck around with a variable housing is something I have wanted ever since I read maximum boost 10 years ago. Its time for something different, and this seems like cheap fun!

I didn't even know this existed until it was mentioned. I have no idea how I will control it, but chances are it will be pretty rudimentary!

Evan

BTW; Thanks for the encouragement.
