I just lost the low beam on the right side of my Rogue.
I contacted my local dealer and, after getting the last 8 of my VIN, he told me he can't sell me just the bulb. He has to sell me the whole assembly!! :wtf2:

What the heck is going on here??

What kinda horse hockey is this? Do it yourself, then go back to the dealership and tell the General Manager (not the shop manager) that they need to hire competent service staff that are at least familiar with the brand being sold in that store.

Thank you Rogue One.
When I called he asked for the last 8 of my VIN so I was worried that there was some model change in mid-production that would cause a problem.

That aside: There are a ton of manufacturers out there for these.
Any recommendations?

I always change both bulbs. Just something I do as a precaution.
‘Is changing both lights necessary?’ The answer is, no, it’s not required to replace both bulbs. There are some advantages, however, to change both lights at the same time. The most important reason for changing out both headlights at the same time is that you don’t want both headlamps to go dark. It is possible that if one headlight goes out that the other is soon to follow. Factory-installed headlamps should last about the same length of time. If one bulb burns out, it safe to assume that the other lamp is not far behind. Two new bulbs will shine brighter than old worn out bulbs.

Seems like voltage would be a concern.
I see a Philips bulb that's rated at 85V
Is this usable in my stock headlights ?

Oops! I wasn't paying attention.
PHILIPS is a trusted name brand, but you pay a stiff price for them. Personally I'd avoid the cheap stuff. Hopefully someone can chime in with tips on the better brands.

Thanks for your help! :dblthumb:

I have enough information to get a new bulb before my inspection sticker expires next month! :)

Other than Philips mentioned above, Osram is also a good brand, and Morimoto is also a good option.
In term of color, 4300k is the OEM color (white with slight yellow). 5000k is true white, and 6000k (or sometimes 5500k) is white with slight blue.
When you buy bulbs from Amazon, make sure to pick a good seller if available.
I personally won't buy from anyone other than Amazon, but if that is not an option, pick one that is backed by the Amazon return policy. That way if you do get a defective or counterfeit bulb, you can still return it.

I had a thought. The reason they wanted to replace the headlamp assembly is because the ballast is what's gone bad. Fortunately it looks like it can be replaced, and it's not that expensive.

I'll have the new bulb by the end of the month and I'll post here assuming I can get the cap off of the ballast. :chuckle:

Here's some additional:
The Philips OEM bulb price was really cheaper than the Oshram or Morimoto lights (Amazon) so I went with the Philips.
I had a lot of trouble finding the 4300K or 5000K lights as everyone wants to sell me 6000K and above which I don't want.
I finally found a listing for the Philips that said it was 4300K (OEM spec).

Thanks to everyone who provided the wealth of info on this!
Y'all have been a great help! :dblthumb:

For what its worth, you can swap the bulbs now to rule out a ballast issue before your new bulbs arrive.

+1 on the oem Philips bulb.

Their like the eveready bunny with mine going over 11 years.

Still rocking the originals to this day.

Avoid slyvania silver star ultras or the brand itself, I swapped them because I thought they were brighter, nope they were dimmer. Garbage.

Keep it oem. :domo:
