I am partial to my custom built (by me) 1911. The Glock 30 is also one of my favorites for carry. The HK USP series is also pretty nice, but a bit bulky for carry IMHO. I'm just a big .45 fan, so it's really hard to talk me into anything else. My ex GF shot .40 cal (she was state ranked actually) and we were always getting into it over which was better. I think it's personal preference in the end. They will both stop sombody with one shot, it's just a matter of which you like.

But seriously, i like the Berreta 92f. That extra little bit of barrel is just cool imo.

I'd bet that 89 dollar pistol is a Hi Point, it's really supposed to be a reliable gun though, from the reviews I've read, the accuracy is decent being it hits close to where you point it. They say it's a pain to break down though.

I personally feel one of the best guns for the money on the market right now is the EAA Witness, it's built on a modular frame so with different slide assemblies and magazines, you can change the calibers out. It's also a copy of the CZ-75, arguably one of the best pistols in the world. The finish of them is also good and they may still make the polymer version in a variety of colors such as blue, green, a smoked clear, black and my favorite, hot pink (I'm guessing these are more for competition). The design features a full length slide rail which adds stability for accuracy, which this gun brings a lot of. They can normally be found for between 300 and 400 dollars. Extra slide assemblies are somewhere around 175 or so.

Uzi's actually have stick mags dudes:), there may be a drum for them though. What makes a banana mag a banana mag is the curve, like on an ak. MP5's however have a banana mag for them or a straight mag. Both are fun guns to shoot though I haven't had the chance to shoot a full auto UZI, my brother's was merely a semi auto Norinco carbine, heavy but accurate and reliable even though I don't care for Norinco.

I will get a model 31? Glock here in the near future, its a compact .45. This would be an awesome daily carry weapon. Also, for home defense nothing beats the good old shotgun. With the shotgun, unlike .357, .44 mag, and hotter loads, when you shoot the intruder you don't have to worry that the bullet will go through him and into your neighbor's house. Plus, waking up and not being able to aim is not a problem, just point and shoot. But, just in case things get a little too far I have a mini-14 to back me up!

Depends on the round your shooting with a shotgun...a slug will probably have over-penetration issues as will some buckshot.

they make tactical low recoil loads for this problem, they'll cost more, but also offer a lighter recoil and less penetration.

You're a queer.

Can't imagine you'd ever get pulled over, though. It's not like you can exceed the speed limit. :rolleyes

joking about killing cops isn't cool dude, it gives them another reason to dislike CCW holders and always have them edgy when they pull one over.

and you should only fire at soemone threatening your life. cant shoot a cop, wont make it out alive...

yeah, but im gonna go for either the .357 or the .40

the .45 seems a bit much to carry everyday. i mean like, yeah, its cool to say "i got a 45" and all but in reality its a little excessive

the .45 is by no means excessive, it's a rather slow moving round with a big bore, it won't over penetrate and still hits like a truck. It's biggest drawback is capacity (unless in a glock or other modern design or a hi cap frame 1911) and the grip size of the gun chambered for it not being suitable for some smaller hands. It sounds cool when shot too:)

now carrying the new S&W .500 magnum, that's excessive, it has more torque than a top fuel drag car.

that would be excessive. i want the medium frame glock because its not a holding the gun issue, its carrying it, and not too much recoil so i can accurately rapid fire. im probably goin with the glock 32 .40/10 round

DAO, polymer, 10 rounds, reasonable price.

BTW - Compensated barrel benefits do not outweigh the drawbacks - Namely, temporary blindness when shooting at night.

No real need for it - If you can't handle a little recoil, you're carrying too much caliber....

.40 cal small-frame (concealable) Glock would be my choice.

I carried a Taurus PT-99 with Pachmyrs and Glasers for over a decade.

The model number is 36 for the compact .45. It would be pretty easy to carry. The .40 is nice too though, actually my Dad carries a .40 Sig P229. As far the shotgun, no buckshot or slugs! I hope to be going shooting tomorrow with Bud.

thats the key- the recoil. being on a range, and being in a less than desirable situation are two different things. i have no problem with the .45's kick, but when you really need to be dead on accurate, the 40 seems like a better choice.

also, ive loved the medium frame glock ever since the first time i saw one. i dont care if others can see it, sometimes thats enough to end problems before they start.

I'd probably opt for a 9mm over a .380 personally, not too big a difference in size, but the nine will pack a little more punch.

Yeah, Iwas discussing that with a friend of mine that's really into guns and I think I'm gonna go with a 9mm. I'm more into swords and other large bladed weapons.:icesangel

A handgun thread? Where have I been? I prefer Sig Sauer, specifically the SP2340...see avatar.

.40 in general seems to offer an excellent compromise, giving good stopping power while not overwhelming the user.
