You have to pick the right tool for the job. The same is true for handguns. Though Repoman is the local crazy gun nut.

For a good combination of price, reliabilty and performance I like the Glock series especially the Glock 19.There are better guns out there , though not by much, and <much> more expensive.

I currently own a Glock 33, have owned 2 Glock 19's , used various Berretta 9's, and the .45.

I think over heavy guns like the Desert Eagle dont help much.

They are too big, heavy and unwieldy, for you to be likely, to carry them, when you actually need them.

Fred..:)

i'm with you fred, big fan of the glock!!!! i learned on a 45 glock. not the "prettiest" looking hand gun in the world, but for my money, protection, and reliability, glock is the only thing to consider. and let's face it, when it comes to protection, reliability better be VERY high on your list of requirements. glock is my gun. the VERY important thing to remember is, KNOW THE LAWS!!! they are stacked against the lawfull gun owner, so if you are buying one for personal protection, know what you are doing. don't listen to friends or family, read the laws. i took a course from a retired cop, and it was an eye-opener! what seems like "justifiable" could cost you 80 grand in legal fees. just know what you're getting into. to get back your question,,,,,,glock should fit all your requirements! i'm looking into the 10mm......... jeff

uhm well. yeah. right tool for the job like someone said. if you are going out to pop some punk *** bloods, you need a streep sweeper; being a fully automatic barrel clip shotgun. but if you say, want to shoot someone robbing your house, you might want to look into something with a heavier round like a .45, for stopping power. Or if you are a police officer and may be in combats scenerios with it, a glock 19 would be better due to it's round capacity. etc etc. yeah.

Map pocket, drivers door :D Personally I like metal guns, I flirted with the idea of a H&K USP .45 but ultimately I just dont like guns that aren't made on a metal frame. Hence, I have decided I want a Kimber Eclipse Pro II for an M1911 style handgun which imo, is pretty much unbeatable :) The only place it suffers is in round capacity, but that's nothing an extra clip cant solve!

KIMBER .45 are great. i dont care much for the plastic glocks even though they have been proven to be very good. i just love the feel of a 1911 and browning hi power

.357 Sig glock, good stuff

you'd be hard pressed to find a handgun tougher than the Glock, more accurate sure, but not by too much

I also like 1911's, my uncle has a sweet Kimber and I have a Charles Daly(kinda sucks right now, I need to do some work on it). Though the design is getting close to a century old, well, I think it actually is now, it's been around that long for a reason. It's like holding a piece of history when you pick one up.

As far as revolvers go, the Ruger Gp101 is a nice little snub 357 at a very good price, it's light killer finish, and cheap enough for most to afford. The Smith and Wesson guns are fun too, few things are as cool as the Model 29, to quote Wang "makes you feel like Dirty Harry". I wish I had the money for a 4 inch nickel Python:(

The Desert Eagle is more of a Novelty type of gun, if you wanna carry something that big a caliber, probably better to use a revolver. On that note, I'll be glad when I get a grand:D

If you want a pistol to "accesorize" might I suggest either the glock or usp, perhaps a walther P-99 or a Sig Pro, and of course, the 1911 (it's got by far the most custom parts out of all handguns).

I still think my over all favorite gun is a short barrel pump action 12ga, preferable a Mossberg 500 becuase it's a tough gun and easy for a lefty like myself to manipulate all the switches and gizmos. And I like the recoil:)

edit: suppressed weapons are cool and all, but for the price and hoops you have to jump through, they're not too practical.

I still want a suppressed MP5 though, one of my fondest childhood memories was when I got to shoot one, so cool...I stitched a cedar tree from about 25 yards with it and the only sound heard was the bolt closing and the brass hitting concrete. It was super loud with some high velocity ammo though.

Colt SAA and copies are fun too, not as practical for a CCW but make good camping guns and in .22lr excellent plinkers.

i like the feel of the Glock 34. good weight, nice grouping, toughly built, good all round gun. that or a Sig P-228, .357. i'll try and find this website about handguns. gives the goods and bads of every major gun. i'd also like to get an H&K USC. not a handgun, but it uses handgun ammo.

if you want an *** load of mods to throw on a gun, you can't go wrong with an H&K USP either 9mm, or .45 calibre variation.

nah, it's all about the Smith and Wesson .500 or a BFR in 45-70 Government.

on a sidenote, I found out that a pistol grip shotgun and magnum field loads don't mix well for the shooter.
