Happy Saturday folks. Another busy day in project 240 garage lol. I got my passenger window lined up so it works right and seals properly. Did a bunch of small cleaning stuff and topped off all the fluids. Now that my windows are fixed, it was time to re-move that old, purple, cut window tint and get it re-done. Thanks to the brutal florida sun, after 1 hour of baking outside, the film peeled right off leaving no residue. Who knows how long its been on there too...

So i'll be rocking the fishbowl look until my tint guy can get to it next week.

Until next time :mike

Evening 240 guys. Well the build is coming together and I see the light at the end of the tunnel already lol. Hitting my friends shop Thursday and hopefully will drive away friday with a 5 speed/lsd 240 :). Headed up to NC September 5th to visit my brother and get the car painted at the dealership hes a service manager at. I am looking to buy some aftermarket parts, heres my thread:
s14-wtb-hks-hi-power-intake-kouki-tails-t505138.html

Also, anyone ever have fortune selling their auto trannies? I would rather mine not go to waste, but its def. not a wanted item lol.

I really like where this is going. I miss my old s14 so much :(

5 speed, paint, LSD, and this car will be set

How do you like that tomei knob? My stock one is all nasty, and im thinking about getting an aftermarket knob, but i dont really like any. The nismo titanium one is nice, but it gets too hot for florida. The tomei duracon knob is suppoed to not get hot or cold

As of right now I have no idea lol. But from looking at it off the car, I dig it. I had a Cobb shift knob on my wrx which is made of the same material and it was awesome. Thats what attracted me to the duracon because I can't stand getting into the car and having a hot/cold shift knob.

When you re-paint are you getting rid of the wing?

If you did that, and got some kouki oem side skirts, that would make the car look a lot better IMO. The skirts seem kinda necessary if your running 18's

Its 3m color stable medium front and dark in the back. Its right around the 30%F/15%R legal limit here in FL. I used to be a dark tint guy but after a window tint ticket and getting a little older its not worth it. I had my tint guy do it in the plaza I work in. He does cash pricing for me and does a great job. And as a plus he does it while im working lol.

Not yet, just got it in today. But I will put it in next time I get a chance.
PapaSmurf2k3 wrote:What kinda gear oil did you get?
I got syncromesh for the trans and valvoline 80w-90 for the diff. I couldn't find gl-4 around here for the transmission whatsoever, so I went with the syncromesh.

The sunroof assembly was bought used from a local shop, it set me back $275

Good deal man, let me know how the synchromesh works out. I was thinking about picking up some sort of redline product (shockproof or MT-90 or something), but have always had good results with synchromesh.

Will do. I've found syncromesh to be fairly universal and work well in about anything so i just went with it. If i'm not happy with the way she shifts I will put some mt90 in it in the near future. But I think it will be just fine...

Hmmm your the first one that has said that about redline as far as i've read... But anyways, the "fastener" moulding was a dealer special order part, it was 78 shipped from courtesy if I remember right. I let Lee and Cates glass order the actual moulding from one of their vendors, it was $120. Turns out that I could have gotten it from courtesy cheaper, but I didn't know it at the time. I heard Nissan didn't even produce it anymore, so I didn't bother to even look into it. O well. They charged me $65 in labor as well. Oh and btw you generally need both parts when its replaced.

edit: that back flip video is funny sh*t!!! :rotfl

Good to hear, I've read all good things about syncromesh in a KA transmission so thats what i'm going with. I will report how it goes.

it was redline mt90 that i used. i put in in my first trans and it started grinding BAD then i swapped it with my other trans thinking that the trans just went bad. well i put in just conventional 75-90w and it was shifting smoothly, but then i put in the redline mt90 again and within about a month it was grinding real bad again. i love redline oils, but i will never again use mt90 in my 240sx transmission. this is the crap..

glad somebody liked the video lol. i gave it my best shot.

oh and thanks for the info on the molding.

I think its just the simple fact that you kept falling on your back over and over and just kept trying lmao. Good stuff.

Not a problem!

Well folks, tonight is a major update with not-so-many pictures lol. The car awakened to prowl the streets as a 5-Speed at around 2:30 am this morning. All I can say is WOW. I have never driven a car automatic and then the same exact car as a manual. The difference is unbelievable lol. The car actually feels "quick" :chuckle: . It is a great feeling to get that slushbox out of there. The B&M shifter/tomei knob combo is more than I could ask for. The shifts are tight, smooth, and have that "clunk" feel to them which I absolutely love. My shifter only makes slight noise when I down shift and coast into second. That is something I can definitely deal with. The syncromesh seems to be just fine. I have no grinds and all is well. I have some minor adjustments to make to the clutch and brake pedals along with some other small things to take care of.

But along with all the good, there has to be some bad right? The J30 VLSD was completely locked up and not turning. Its something that I failed to even check. We even took the time to find a bad pinion seal, order one and wait for it, then find out that the diff is seized up. The axles were already in the car and everything. I really wanted the car on the road and didn't want to jump the gun on anything so I opted to just use the automatic open diff for now. I will probably grab a non-seized J30 a bit down the road, or something similar. I didn't take very many pics but heres what I have of the finished product:

I also had best buy bypass my rear amps. I didn't feel comfortable doing it myself and they did it super cheap. It sounds so much better. Before my factory amps were trying to work along with my aftermarket cd player which is no good. It sounded like crap lol. But they are now bypassed and my tweeters work now. The difference in sound is awesome.

Its been a long couple of days and I think its time to get some sleep. Until next time folks :wavey:

Thanks man. The audio is definitely much better. Mine sounded so bad with the new speakers I rarely listened to music honestly lol. It does suck about the diff but thats just part of the whole process when your dealing with used parts. I'm just really glad everything else was fine.

I bought a $95 oem replacement exedy so I doubt it will be anything crazy either. But its perfect for dding. I'm really not into sliding all that much so its fine. The shift boot and trim is actually just brand new oem nissan. Got it off ebay for around $65 shipped.

LOL, I don't know about the welded part. DDing a welded diff is ridiculous imo, especially when it rains :)

Well todays update will consist of a complete wall of text. Sorry in advance but here goes. Today has been extremely busy. I put a very large amount of parts up for sale on CL and here on nico. I have threads in almost every classifieds section lol. Be sure to check 'em out ;). I also hit the local muffler shop and had my exhaust leak in my manifold welded up. Quick $25 fix makes the car no longer sound like a pos tractor going down the road. I then fixed my pedals. The clutch master cylinder rod needed to be adjusted out so the pedal would return to its proper position. My brake lights were also staying on, so I adjusted the switch that controls them as well. I then got around to installing my JDM Kouki S14 tail lights. They look amazing. It was dark once I finished so pics will come shortly. Thanks for reading!
