All of those parts are cool and all, but have you given any thoughts about two of the worst things holding your car back, frame stiffness and the rear suspension? I guess most just want to go faster by adding horsepower parts (myself included), but a lot of the added power is lost because of a weak twisting frame and a poorly designed rear end. Address these issues first, and you will be amazed by the extra power you've been wasting. I've been through the same cycle as you ten years ago and I'm just starting to see the error of my modded ways with mine. Just my $0.02.

Welded sub frame connectors make a big difference. I had them on my 87. Big difference.

No I'm saying you know what you are talking about.

4.56 are amazing street gears... one of my Hemi buddies here in Phoenix put 4.56 in his lowered single cab ram. Its all over at about 115 mph but getting there doesn't take much time at all. He runs nitrous and is on transmission #4.

My first time at the track was kinda disapointing. I was having too much fun to be very competitive. My reaction time was ***. The best i did was 14.4 on a hot motor, spark plugs with 65k on them, and with street tires.

I had a fun though, and my girl loved watching me. I guess that what really counts. I baked 2 hondas, lost to 2 novas, beat an old monte carlo, then a maxima with nitrous beat me when he got a 13.3.

Still fun, ima go again when i change the plugs and install these damn stillen grounding kit thats been sitting in my trunk for 4 months.

If i have typos it is because i have about a pint of svedka vodka in me.

I see this is old but while i was seraching for something i came across this and thought i would comment.

I have a 2004.5 350z Performance 6MTI also have a 1999 Mustang GT A/T (F/S)

Now the GT is a torque monster but after about 35-40 MPH it has nothing. As far as comparing the two, when i got the Z the GT is equal in mods, the Z was faster the way it was when i bought it, than the GT is with comparable mods.

Not only that i've ran one G in on the highway from like 50 and i was impressed but i expected it to be that way, and it was stock (as far as i could see).

I've ran every mustang GT i've seen and beat them all, some a lot worse than others. One that was pretty decently modded was hanging but i was slowly walking him, the rest were turds. All GT's too. Actually had one guy try a fly by at like 80-90 when i was going 65, but i saw him coming so i down shifted and waited for the attempted fly by - that was funny. My GF was with me for that one, she laughed too.

The mustang GT isn't a slow car but that SOHC just rapes the top end, they just can't hang with the VQ.... My view on Mustangs is DOHC (cobra) or don't buy one. My cadillac sls was faster from 60mph than the GT i have now.

I agree that the cobra is the way to go if you can find one in great shape....BTW, I have one that is and it's for sale!!!

Before I bought the Coupe this week, I also test drove 2 Z's. Both 06, one was 6MT other AT. Loved them both!! Actually, I felt more comfortable in the 6MT with cloth than the loaded AT with leather. Went with the G coupe cause it was a little too bumpy for a DD for me at my age (old phart). However, if I hit the lottery, I'll have a 6MT Z in my stable!!!

My biggest automotive regret in life was trading my 69 Mach 1 in on a 84 Daytona Turbo Z POS instead of what I REALLY wanted 84 300Z!!!!Lesson learned: Don't settle.

G35 wins hands down, more horses to the G35. If it was the new GT I'd said depends on the driver

I've got (had, daughter took it) an 06 Mustang GT. I promise you that with a thousand dollars added in mods to the Mustang, it would lay waste to my 08 G35 VQHR at the track. I can mod the Mustang for pennies on the dollar to what it costs to mod a G/Z, plus, there is a ton more things available for the Mustang.

Ask Gwoods about the Bullett mustang (a mere 25 extra HP) vs. a regular GT vs. his G. Woody is our track exspert, and he's very open and honest about the results he experiences.

Bright red 6spd Mazdaspeed 3 is my first choice right now. (okay, flame away folks). It's a lot of car for 25,ooo. I've never had a turbo and I'd like to have one. However...

My family wants to go the classic Mustang route, (Seriously, my wife and daughter are insisting...) so I spend yestarday looking over Craigslist at over 1000 Mustang/ mustang related ads in SoCal. Looking at a 1965 to 1968. No rust, no damage, semi restored. V8 auto. (4 spds are apparently VERY rare, as are fastbacks) I found this one, it's flawless on the outside. Good on the inside. He wants 11,500 for it and I'll see if a waiting game gets him down.

The truth to the matter is that I love car shopping. Buying is anticlimatic, even boring, but shopping, and dreaming is where it is at...

Haven't read the thread, just the title.

I know for FACT that a 2004 G35 coupe A/T will beat a 2005+ Mustang GT A/T by almost 1 full second in the 1/4 mile consistantly. I just did this on Friday at the track. More than once.

One of the Stangs had stock exhaust, the other had full exhaust with headers. It really made no difference.

I especially like hearing how fast the coupes are now! Took mine out this evening for a run thru some twisties. Very nice! Handles MUCH better than a stock Cobra too!!! Almost as good as my modded 97 coupe! But, then again, it has Steeda springs, CC plates, 275's, and a very aggressive alignment! I would think with a few mods too, it would handle much better!! But, first mod will be grounding kit. Sorry.... rambling, but excited about the coupe and been

Rich, you need to get the LSD asap. The difference in having a limited slip and open diff is a pretty big one.

Beaner,How much $$$ does that run for the gears and installation? Is it an easy installation for somebody that knows what they are doing? Is there any worries about reliability afterwards? This is one mod that I'm VERY interested in.

OOPS. probably should search a bit or open another thread...

$750 for the LSD. Nissan quoted me $350 for installation. Not the easiest thing to install, but definitely doable.

Reliability, the only thing I can think of, is burning out the clutch plates, but you would have to have a lot more than stock horses to do that.

It could also get annoying, "Note: Low speedchattering, clunking and tire chirping are normal attributes of this performance LSD."

Here is the best price I have found so far.

I've tried 1way and 2 ways LSD, and they both have pros and cons. Never tried 1.5 ways, but heard that it is somewhere in between.

Thinking about just getting the OEM LSD. I've been told there is no difference between the 350Z and the G OEM LSD.However, this will have to wait... Will have to be after there are new countertops in the kitchen......

The OEM VLSD is nice. In a straight line, it will keep both tires spinning, but in a donut on the pavement, it doesn't want to spin both wheels, where as a clutch style, will keep them both spinning.

The OEM will be pretty spendy, unless you find a Z/G at a junkyard. If you do find a Z with a 6MT, it also has a 3.90 final drive gearinstead of our 3.35

That from what I hear, only dropps mileage 1 or 2 MPG, but makes a better response.
