What I use at work. Has a good amount of light and uses 2 AAA batteries. Batteries last a few weeks with pretty heavy use. I haven't used the makita 14.4V flashlight since I got the streamlight and it has been over a year. A few of the other guys at the shop have them too.

Its a distinct possibility, but in truth, arguing with PMQ is no more productive than just hurling insults at him. At least one of those things doesn't make me get angrier.

The problem is that he said the Stinger lit up the road better then the headlights.

The stinger, to be brighter, would have to be much more tightly focused. This would put a bright spot on the road.

The headlights might not be as bright as the stinger in that one spot, but they do a much better job of lighting the entire area on the road.

If Ian meant that it's brighter in that one spot, then yes, I agree with him.

When it comes to driving by a light though, you need lots and lots of lumens to diffuse over the entire road surface infront of the car.
Wow, you just know everything dont you?

Go back and read my post. Did I at any point mention lighting the entire road?

You happened to hit a topic that I've studied up on...

To give you an idea of how bright this light is, Ive driven in pitch black, with no headlights, holding my light out the window. It is brighter, and throws light farther then the headlights on my S13. At 60 mph I really did not feel the need for more light.

I'm sorry, I interpreted this as you lighting up the entire road while driving.

My mistake.

Oh hell. I was like "I need a new flashlight, I should pop into that forum!"

Well, mistake. There's just too many choices. Those 4sevens seem pretty good. The 30 day runtime on the Quark appeals to me (potentially useful in a situation my job could get me in). Are there similar models with that feature? Or should I just say f*** it and be happy with a Quark? Cool white or neutral white?

Also: unless somebody can make the case that the CR123A battery is worlds better, it'd be a AA powered light because AAs are easy to find just about anywhere (ie: overseas).

The quark is an excellent choice.

I'd say go with the neutral white as the CRI is higher. This will allow colors to appear more accurate.

I'd go with the AA version and throw some Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries in it and go to town. The lithiums will never leak like alkalines do, they have an higher capacity, AND they are much lighter.

With the buck/boost driver in these lights there really isn't much reason to go with the CR123A.

I've got a ton of random cheaper flashlights, i've loved flashlights ever since I was little. My go-to in the truck is a 4-Dcell LED Maglight, I keep an Energizer Hardcase Tactical (MIL-Spec) LED with all my storm chase gear, and I've had my MSHA approved waterproof Krypton Stealthlight (emergency responder edition) bedside for the last 10 years.
